Lovely property and very friendly owner, who lives locally and extremely helpful. Mr Pittaway (July 2017)
We have stayed at Lilians Retreat before and as usual it was immaculate and had everything we required and more. Lilian is the most lovely person, full of Northern hospitality. We would not hesitate to recommend. Mrs Spragg (June 2017)
Landlady Lillian made us feel right at home as usual and the house and garden are lovely as usual and benefits fromt he addition of WIFI and Freeview TV Mrs Glen (June 2017)
Lilian, the owner greeted us at the door, and gave us a lovely friendly welcome. The house was stunning and had everything you could need. We had a fantastic stay. Mrs Porteous (June 2017)
Comfortable and clean accommodation. Well equipped kitchen. Lovely garden. Convenient location to shops, pubs and places of interest. Very nice landlady. Mr Dehan (May 2017)
Lilian was waiting to greet us when we arrived and made us very welcome. The property is in a quiet area on the edge of town, is very well equipped, warm and comfortable and has a lovely, spacious garden and a little conservatory for warmer days. There is a wealth of information about the area in the sitting room. Amble is well placed for using as a base to explore Northumberland and we enjoyed visits to Seahouses, Bamburgh, Alnmouth, Alnwick, Berwick upon Tweed, Hexham, Housesteads, Durham and Sunderland (to visit family and friends), also Amble itself. There is a good variety of shops in Amble on Queen Street and on the harbour. For eating out we would recommend The Wellwood and also the fish and chips from down by the harbour are superb. What did we like best? My husband's answer would be The Olde Ship at Seahouses, a beautiful old building, which served lovely food and sold McEwan's Scotch Ale - a Mackem, he has been deprived of it for a long time as it is not available in Lincolnshire and surrounding counties. Seriously though, the beautiful coast and lovely castles. Least favourite, my answer would be lack of both wifi and signal on my mobile in a great many areas. Thankfully the friends who travelled with us were with a different supplier so we were not completely without a working phone in case of emergencies. I would recommend Lilian's retreat wholeheartedly for a couple, friends or a small family and we hope to return in the not too distant future. onlyjonely (November 2016)
Wefound the owner very friendly and the area very good especially for visiting the local attractions Mr Jones from Stafford (September 2016)
Lovely clean house, near to all amenities. A visit to Alnwick Castle is a must. The best free attraction we found was the Chain Honey Bridge Farm where you were able to walk to Scotland from. The Wellwood in Amble was good for Sunday Carvery but the evening meals were not as good or such good value as 2015. Great beaches for our grand-daughter who wants to come back again in 2017 nsgskg (September 2016)
Plenty to do & see within a 20 mile radius Mrs Garth from Spalding (August 2016)
A comfortable house in an ideal location, and the owner made us feel very welcome. Mrs Hill from Chippenham (May 2016)
Cosy warm property in a good location with a large garden. The owner was friendly and welcoming. Mr Saxon from Wetherby (April 2016)
Owner there to welcome us and let us in early. Gave a quick resume of various things we needed to know and left us in peace. The house and garden were very clean and tidy. It was very well equiped, but did need larger pans when cooking for 5! The estate was very quiet and people were friendly. It was at the top of the town but only 10 mins walk down a shortcut through the estate. Amble is a lovely village with lots of very good independent shops and a Sunday market (somewhat depleted in winter). There have been new developments since we were last there and they have improved the village around the harbour area. There are good road links to larger towns and seaside villages and much to see. A good area for the coastal path route and very clean beaches. disappointed321 (November 2015)
The Host, was lovely and welcoming. The property was situated within a lovely, very quiet modern estate. The house & contents were in excellent condition. The town centre was only a 5-10 minute walk. Highly recommended. Mr Wood from Blairgowrie (October 2015)
Lilian's retreat was well placed for all the places of interest within the area. We enjoyed a nice, peaceful and relaxing holiday. The owner was a very pleasant, friendly and helpful person. Mr Searle from East Grinstead (May 2015)
A very comfortable and clean holiday home. The landlady was an absolute gem, nothing was too much for the comfort of her guests. We shall be back as it was such a good place to be for exploring Northumberland. Mrs Edwards from Goole (April 2015)
This was our second visit to Lillian's and it did not disappoint. Landlady Lillian makes you so welcome you never want to leave ! The house has everything you need and is in such a quiet area yet a 10 minute walk takes you into town. Nice restaurants and take-aways to enjoy in Amble make the stay even better. annglen1 (September 2014)
The lady who owns the property made us very welcome and nothing was too much trouble for her. The standard of the property was excellent and the garden and sun room were an added bonus to relax in. The property is only a 10 min walk from town and is ideally situated to explore the beautiful area. Would love to return soon. Mrs Adamson from Stafford (May 2014)
The owner was a lovely lady, the property was lovely in a nice area, spick and span. There was everything you could need and it was not far to walk to the town centre and beach. The Northumberland coastline is great. We would definitely use this property again. Mrs Spragg from Knottingley (April 2014)
We really enjoyed our stay here. Comfortable lounge, good size kitchen with a nice sun room leading off. Found the beds really comfortable. The owner of the property, is really friendly and greeted us when we got there and was there when we left to say goodbye. The lounge furniture is really comfortable. Loads of room for us to hang our clothes, and plenty of room in the kitchen. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Lilian's Retreat. Mr Holdbrook from Redruth (August 2013)
We found the property practical, comfortable, quiet and clean. It is easy to get to and not far from shops and other facilities. The owners met us and were very friendly and helpful. A FlipKey verified reviewer (August 2013)
The cottage was in a good location for visiting all the Northeast coast line we went from Newcastle to Berwick on Tweed, lots of interesting places to visit and had an excellent time. Whitley bay was one of our favourite places and the Millennium bridge in Gateshead and a must for the ladies was the Metro centre there as well. Mrs Partington from Bolton (June 2013)
