For example; shower gel and good quality toilet paper not forgetting the bottle of wine. The village is very attractive with a farm shop and cafe ( not open on Mondays). An excellent place from which to explore the Yorkshire Wolds. Mrs McDade (March 2019)
Just back and I am delighted with the Engine Room . Beautiful outlook. Cleanliness excellent. Very well equipped. A great place to relax bograts6 (February 2019)
I spent my birthday weekend at The Engine Room with a group of friends. The place is converted tastefully, is very well equipped and the host is very accommodating. We arrived to find biscuits, cake, wine and lovely fluffy bathrobes for each of us. We immediately settled into the cosy cottage and everyone loved their ensuite bedrooms each full of light and very well maintained. Sledmere itself is a lovely village. Lots of walking routes and a trip to Sledmere Hall and Gardens is a must. Everyone is so friendly and the local pub is great. We spent one morning in Malton (25 mins drive), which is definitely worth a drive for a wander around. York is about 40 mins away in the direction of Manchester so we stopped off there on the way back. All in all a really good spot from which to explore with high quality accommodation which has absolutely everything you could need. Including a full Mad Men box set! Highly recommended. From the moment we walked in we felt at home in this beautiful, spacious cottage. Everything you need for a comfortable relaxing stay has been provided. Lovely unexpected touches such as the fluffy white robes all help to make you feel welcome in this home from home . It is a brilliant social space and ideal for get togethers for families or friends with plenty of room for everyone. No awkwardwho is going to have the worst bedroom as all three are beautiful and the bathrooms superb. The location is ideal for exploring the Wolds with so much to see and do in the area. I cannot recommend highly enough. Book your escape to this Yorkshire treasure and I promise you won’t be disappointed. Mumknowzall (January 2019)
Have just returned from a fabulous stay at The Engine Room Cottage, the cottage itself is faultless, everything a guest would need is catered for by the owners and the place is spotlessy clean and beautifully decorated. We will be returning next year as want to explore North Yorkshire a bit more, a wet day in York and a windy day in Scarborough was all we fitted in, however even the weather couldn't dampen our spirits. shooky1 (December 2018)
There was a really welcoming feel as we came into the huge open plan kitchen, dining and living area and although it was cold outside the house was cosy throughout our stay. The kitchen is exceptionally well-equipped and there is attention to detail everywhere with nice touches such as the provision of fluffy white bath robes. We ate at the excellent Triton Inn in the village on the first day and we liked it so much we returned again the next day. We stayed three nights and visited the Sledmere Christmas craft and food fair five minutes walk away, and the Malton Christmas fair the next day, a short drive away. It was very quiet in the cottage and I especially liked waking to the view of green fields with grazing sheep at the back. It is only a short drive to the coast so we will definitely return again to explore the cliffs, coves and beaches of the region. CMcD15 (December 2018)
The Engine Room is a beautifully converted fire station, with memorabilia discretely placed. It is immaculately kept, with a very well thought out open plan living room, a very well equipped kitchen and (unlike other similar accommodation) has 3 bath/shower rooms alongside 3 good sized bedrooms. It is a stone's throw away from Sledmere House and its surrounding gardens and farm shop. The village itself is delightful with a very nice pub (The Triton). A short drive away is the market town of Malton, ample walks for the fit and not-so-fit. I could not recommend ER highly enough. lgplm (December 2018)
Many thanks, Ray Nunn Mr Nunn (September 2018)
We were extremely happy with the house and the views were fantastic. Every bedroom had its own bathroom and there was plenty of space in the open plan kitchen/dining/lounge area.we all had a brilliant few days staying there. Mrs Coulson (September 2018)
Just spent a week in this beautifully converted cottage. Took my elderly mother who had her own private downstairs bedroom and bathroom with a further two large double en-suite rooms upstairs very spacious and the comfiest beds in a holiday let we’ve ever slept in, lovely outside space, although no actual garden the cottage has a decent sized patio area with fields as far as the eye can see and beautiful views the lambs kept my border collie entertained the whole week (safely enclosed on the right side of the fence) a parasol on the outside table would’ve been a welcome addition as we were lucky enough to have some very hot weather and at almost 80 my mum did have to stay indoors as there was no shade, the location of the cottage was fantastic only around a 15 minute drive to Driffield where you can find a decent sized Tesco amongst lots of other shops or 30 mins to Scarborough where there is a large Morrisons, only 30 mins to flamingo land and 30-40 mins to the park & ride to York. The cottage itself has large open plan downstairs which made it very social whilst cooking dinner and such a well equipped kitchen including a slow cooker which was fab to come back to after a long day out, the owner was very pleasant and was in touch to make sure everything was fine without being invasive and also left some goodies on our arrival which was a lovely touch. I would 100% recommend this property if you’re looking for a holiday rental in this area then look no further you won’t be disappointed... and we will definitely return in the future. tracyjc6 (August 2018)
The engine room cottage is a lovely specious and well equipped. With 3 generous bedrooms 2 with ensuite spotless clean a large open plan living area with a kitchen that wanted for nothing. The whole cottage had a cosy comfortable atmosphere and the surrounding countryside was a added bonus I will certainly miss the view from my bedroom window definitely. It is also a great base to visit the many attractions Scarborough, Bridlington, York etc also I would recommend a visit to the beautiful sledmere house and grounds and a cheeky drink or two in the triton pub 10 minutes walk up the road. I would highly recommend this cottage and Catherine the owner will definitely consider coming back soon. dutty271067 (August 2018)
Another great bonus is that it's surrounded by glorious countryside, I will miss the view from my bedroom window definitely, it is also a great base to visit many places such as Scarborough, Bridlington, York etc just a 30 minute car ride away, would highly recommend this cottage and considering to come back again soon.. Mr Dutton (August 2018)
spotlessly clean and comfortable good for touring. lovely views but I do think the fence netting could be higher as a pet dog can get over after the sheep. Mrs Meeson (August 2018)
We couldn’t get a mobile signal but the wi-fi was perfect. Mrs Johnson (July 2018)
A stylish, comfortable, converted fire engine shed! Located in the gentile private Estate of Sledmere with the grand house, extensive grounds and lovely farm shop and cafe just a 10 minute walk around the corner. Not forgetting the very traditional Triton Inn (strap line "unspoilt by progress!") in easy reach and definitely worth a visit, excellent gin & tonics! The cottage is one of four, quite close together but not overlooking each other. The views from the back over rolling fields with gambolling lambs make up for the lack of outside space - there is a patio area with table and sunshade. On arrival there was a bottle of wine which was a lovely touch and the owner Catherine had been in touch the day before to wish us a good trip. The cottage was very clean and tidy with a nice open plan space downstairs which makes this a great place for a family or group get together and can accommodate six with plenty of room. The kitchen is very well equipped with good quality items and even a slow cooker. The upstairs ensuite bedrooms are large, light and have. comfortable beds. Lots of hanging space, bathrobes, a TV in two bedrooms and hairdryers provided. A chest of drawers and a full length mirror would be welcome additions to the bedrooms. We really enjoyed our week and felt very at home. I can certainly recommend this cottage and would visit again. Chisdeb (June 2018)
We arrived to a group of cottages that were clearly sign posted, ample parking and a welcome gift of snacks and wine, always a winner with us. The cottage itself was huge with open kitchen, diner and lounge, 3 bedrooms, 2 of which had ensuite bathrooms with the 3rd haveing a bathroom opposite. The kitchen was quite honestly better equipped than mine at home. It is located in Sledmere, about 15 minutes from Driffield and 45 minutes from York. You can get to Bridlington pretty handy if you fancy a boat trip and there is plenty of countryside if you fancy a stroll. If you are looking for somewhere to stay in the area, look no further. Sarah T (May 2018)
Sledmere house, estate and grounds and the local traditional country pub the Triton inn are just 10 minutes walk away and worth a visit. The cottage is well placed for coast, city and county. The converted cottage was one of four on the old fire station site. They are quite close together but not overlooking each other. No garden but a patio area with a bench and fabulous outlook over the fields at the back with lambs running around. Very tidy, clean and nicely decorated with a tasteful fire station theme. There was wine awaiting us on arrival, which was a really nice touch and the owner Catherine contacted us the day before to wish us a good stay. The kitchen was particularly well equipped and the open plan downstairs is a great sociable space with a lovely big table for meals and the big squashy sofa was extremely comfy. Lovely big bedrooms with stylish ensuites upstairs and comfortable beds. Lots of wardrobe space and hangers but we would have liked a chest of drawers in the upstairs bedrooms as there's lots of room and a full length mirror would be really good. Overall a little pricey but very well equipped, stylish and comfortable cottage in a very picturesque individual village, I would definitely recommend and visit again. Mrs Chisman (May 2018)
Engine Room provided an ideal break for three generations, six people and dog but it never felt crowded. The accommodation is spacious and well organised. It is fully and thoughtfully stocked with all amenities. The view from the back is spectacular and we were able to watch new born lambs jump about. Even in a spectacularly wet Easter week we were able to find plenty to do: Sledmere House is fascinating to visit (read the book by the present baronet's younger brother) and the farm shop and the Triton Inn are great assets. Richard Mark H (April 2018)
Engine Room Cottage is a lovely spacious cottage converted from part of The Old Fire Station in Sledmere. As it's name suggests the open plan living, dining & kitchen area is in the large room which once housed the Fire Engine. Sadly there are no longer any Firemen in residence, but there are lots of Fire Station related bits and pieces! The accommodation is spacious and modern with 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, so ideal for larger families or groups of friends, with plenty of entertaining space. There is also a small patio where guests can sit and enjoy the stunning view over the fields to Sledmere. The property is well equipped with everything needed for a comfortable stay, and well located for visiting all the tourist hotspots of North Yorkshire as well as The Yorkshire Wolds. Caroline B (April 2018)
Couldn’t have had a nicer cottage to stay in. The views from the rear are stunning. Fully equipped property with everything you could wish for. Very spacious and just lovely. We’ll definitely be back! Paula R (February 2018)
We stayed at the Engine Room with family friends. In total there were 7 people (and a dog!) staying. The house is absolutely ideal for entertaining large numbers of friends, being at once homely and warm, but also spacious and open plan. The decor is great - we loved the fire brigade touches - and everything has clearly been done to a very high standard. There are three separate bathrooms, again perfect for large numbers of guests, and the host clearly thinks of every detail for her guests. We had a hamper of goodies upon our arrival, and the house is kitted our with useful appliances like the Nespresso coffee maker. We will definitely be returning to explore more of the beautiful Wolds countryside. The house, by the way, had an incredible view right from the kitchen window of fields and rolling hills beyond, making for an ethereal and lovely sight on a bright wintry morning with your cup of tea! Sledmere is a fascinating village, with lovely pubs and a great history due to the huge country estate that dominates the place. Thank you for a wonderful stay! Harry P (December 2017)
The house was always warm and comfortably accommodated the 5 of us in the party. The village is small with a local pub, the Triton Inn, selling good food. I highly recommend this property and it is a credit to the owners and maintenance staff. Mr Lowes (December 2017)
