It was easy to walk into the centre and having a parking bay at the door was a huge bonus. The apartment was well equipped, cosy and comfortable, with the exception of the seating arrangements in the living room but we are aware that the owners are dealing with the current situation. Mrs Gibb (March 2019)
Location great, just a pleasant 10 minute walk from Chester City centre (15 minutes if you amble as we did!) Our hosts were very friendly and helpful and on our arrival we were greeted with mulled wine, panettone and chocolate biscuits! Mrs Homer (December 2018)
Location great, just a pleasant 10 minute walk from Chester City centre (15 minutes if you amble as we did!) Our hosts were very friendly and helpful and on our arrival we were greeted with mulled wine, panettone and chocolate biscuits! All went according to plan, right from the initial booking up until the end of our holiday. Thank you, Sykes! Mrs Homer (December 2018)
Nice walks on The Meadows, Duke’s Drive etc. The only quibble would be the sofa is tiny and uncomfortable, only really fits one person. For people with mobility problems please be aware that although everything is on the ground floor, there are 3 internal steps and a long distance between the bedroom and the bathroom. Mr Preston (November 2018)
An earlier review reported on drafty windows and insufficient heating however that is no longer the case. The flat has new double glazing throughout and has its own boiler providing hot water and heating and the owner's actively encourage you to use this and keep warm. The only drawback for us was the seating arrangements in the lounge consisting of an old two seater settee and a rocking chair. These need replacing as they are past their best and the settee is very low and lightly padded. The apartment was spotlessly clean and the location perfect for exploring the beautiful city of Chester. We hope to return. Mr Duncan (October 2018)
A tip for the owner : Don't site your heating thermostat next to the radiator because whilst the hallway may be nice and warm it's actually 2-3 degrees colder in the lounge. Regrettably, the bathroom never got very warm - it's several degrees colder than the lounge - as it's a flat roof with a seating area for the owners above it and the resulting heat loss through the roof is considerable. It's also a good idea to keep the curtains drawn in the bedroom as the old sash window doesn't shut properly. It's clearly jammed slightly open and has been painted over. I'm surprised that when the extension was built, it wasn't replaced at the same time. Regardless, there is a horrendous draft through the gap between the two halves of the window. The TV seems subject to continual loss of signal. There is a DVD player not mentioned in the details so it might be an idea to bring some DVDs to watch as the TV is quite dated, doesn't have a USB socket and keeps cutting out. Curiously when the upstairs people are out, the TV works a lot better so maybe it's the wiring? As regards the kitchen, the oven could do with a good clean, the roasting tin and wire rack ditto. Two of the white dishes in the drawer hadn't been thoroughly cleaned. Sufficient dishes for two people as long as you use the small dishwasher frequently. Adequate but not exactly generously equipped. There is a hair dryer but this is not mentioned on the description so plus point for equipment, minus point for accuracy. You should add it to the description. Noise insulation is not great maybe because it's an old house? You can't fail to be aware that there are people living upstairs, particularly at 6am when they take a shower. The main saviour of this place is that it's a great location and an easy walk into the city centre. For that reason I would rate it as OK, but only just. There's nothing welcoming when you arrive, not even a card, cheap bottle of plonk or a few flowers, although curiously all of these seem to appear in the photographs on the website. As regards Sykes themselves, be aware that if you rent a place through them - or even enquire on their website - their marketing is aggressive and you should expect to be subjected to a torrent of unsolicited, persistent, unwanted, unecessary and nagging emails Mr Crane (March 2018)
Accommodation excellent, owner made every effort for our comfort and enjoyment so we thoroughly enjoyed our holiday. Mr Davies (December 2017)
We suggest a step stool could be provided. The bath has no grab handles or edges to grip so makes it difficult to take a bath. At this time of year we think the heating on for longer at a lower setting would be more comfortable and possibly more economical. Overall we would have no problem recommending the property to younger people. It is ideally situated for the city and the bus was a bonus. Mr Streatfield (November 2017)
The owner had thought of everything and beyond. I can't wait to go back, and I will Mrs Ashmore (August 2017)
lots to see & do. Load's of places to visit just a short drive away. Places to eat are plentiful & varied & delicious. Will return again soon. Mr McDonald (June 2017)
A credit to the owner's taste and style of retro chic + neuvo. Excellent location for exploring city and countryside. Ms Hart (June 2017)
The apartment was fabulous and far outweighed our expectations from the pictures on the website. Ms Robinson (April 2017)
