The staff were always friendly and helpful, and I must say the cleaning staff were fantastic each week. One of the best places I have stayed long term for a business trip. Mr Cringle (March 2019)
the bathroom is poorly ventilated, the heated towel rail doesn't work, the hot water runs out before evening (with no facility for boosting it) and that's just with two of us staying! Also, the flat is rather dark, the kitchen equipment for cooking full meals (eg. no casserole dishes and only 2 saucepans) is limited and storage space in the twin bedroom is poor. However, on the positive side the flat is warm (electric storage heaters work well once you get the hang of them), secure and quiet, the beds and sofa are very comfortable and it's in an excellent location for access to the city (you quickly get used to the trains passing by). The kitchen has plenty of crockery and cutlery, good dishwasher, microwave, fridge/freezer etc and towels/teacloth, toiletries, cleaning stuff are all provided. Comfortable lounge, good kitchen, nice bedrooms. Bathroom needs a bit of a revamp-mould on grout and seals but OK to use. Could be a nice bathroom apart from this. Really enjoyed staying here-great for going into Chester and getting out of Chester to North Wales, Liverpool etc. Would use this flat again if we are back in Chester in the future. The main view from the flat is of the adjacent rail track, but this was not unduly intrusive. However there is no view of the racecouse from the second floor or below in these flats. However there are significant issues. The inability to control the heating of hot water is unacceptable. Two showers in the morning and all the hot water was used, impossible to use the bath due to lack of hot water. We had seen this is an ongoing issue from previous online reviews, but thought this would have been rectified. Extractor fan and heated towel rail do not work, leading to the internal bathroom being damp and inadequately ventilated. The cleaner should have been well aware that the extractor fan did not work. One wonders if the hot water and towel rail issues are the owners idea of cost saving, we would have been happy to pay slightly more to have adequate hot water and a towel rail that worked. Advertised as sleeping 4, visitors should be aware that half of the only wardrobe space in the flat is locked away by the owner and unavailable to the visitor. Additionally there is inadequate drawer space in both bedrooms. The flat is suitable for only two adults. Sykes advertise this as a four tick property and it is woefully lacking compared to the many other other self catering properties we have used. The replies I received were not helpful - in fact the flat was well equipped with plenty of pillows. On arrival the "hot" water was tepid, which quickly turned to cold. I telephoned the caretaker and was told that the hot water was provided by an Imersion heater which only operated between midnight and eight a.m. There was no way to override this so we had no hot water until the next morning. The caretaker had apparently had a similar phone call from the previous client. Consequentially my husband and I had to shower first thing them eek out the hot water so we had enough to wash up after dinner and have a wash before bed. I don't know how four people would manage in this flat. Storage was adequate in the first bedroom but practically non existent in the second - maybe adequate for two people but not four adults. There was a very large bag of drugs in the shoe store in the hall. I was quite alarmed when I found them, but found that they were for patients with diabetes. I left a note for the caretaker suggesting that they be removed before the next client arrived. The flat could have been cleaner, especially the bathroom where there was a lot of somebody else's hair. On the positive side the accommodation was well placed for trips into Chester and the surrounding countryside and parking excellent. Ms Darke (August 2018)
