Holidays on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus
An island in the eastern Mediterranean, Cyprus has long been a popular island
to take a holiday - what with the beaches at places like
, and quiet fishing villages like Latchi
, the party
nightlife at Ayia Napa
or discover the natural
delights of Mount Olympus
. It's true to say that Cyprus has an awful lot
going for it.
One of the many beaches on Cyprus - ideal to explore with a villa holiday
Take a villa holiday on Cyprus
There are many types of holidays to be had on Cyprus, but the holidays I'd like to bring to
your attention today are villa holidays - you may well be familiar with this particular way of enjoying the sunshine, but for
those still looking for a holiday on Cyprus, here's my top 3 reasons I think you should consider a villa:
1) You get a private pool with pretty much all the villas here, so you can relax knowing you don't have to worry about racing to get a sun lounger every morning.
Check the details of your chosen villa first though. I don't
want you turning up for your week or two in the sun only to find there isn't a swimming pool - and saying to yourself "I was told every one of these
villas had its own swimming pool".
2) Privacy - I like the idea of having the pool to ourselves; and also should we choose to do nothing for the day (it is meant to
be a holiday after all, so you don't necessarily want to spend all your time exploring) you can just lay on a sun lounger, without the
worry that someone will steal your space. Having your own space can be particularly helpful when you have children in tow; you may well
want to sit by the pool, but the children want to be indoors playing on their iPad - this can cause ructions in the family when staying in a hotel.
With your own villa though the children can go inside as they please, and you can enjoy a read by the pool.
3) Eat what you like - all-Inclusive holidays are very popular nowadays. Indeed, we've taken the family on numerous all-inclusive holidays
(The Hotel Orquidea on Gran Canaria
the Riu Marhaba Palace in Tunisia
holidays definitely have their place. But staying at your own villa allows you to eat what you want; and because it's a villa, you don't need to dine out
for every meal.
Coral Bay on Cyprus
The photo above is of Villa Evanthia, in the Coral Bay area of Cyprus. Coral Bay can be found on the west of the island and
is a popular region for a villa holiday - and no wonder, the beaches lead
to shallow water; so good for a swim and to enjoy the various water sports on offer. The centre of Coral Bay resort has an abundance of shops, bars and
restaurants, with the restaurants offering a good mix of international food and local Cypriot cuisine
- so while you can cater for yourself at your villa, you can always eat out too.
Paphos, the capital of Cyprus, is a bus ride away from Coral Bay, and has historical sites as well as "livelier" nightlife. Paphos airport is only a 40 minute
car journey from Coral Bay.
Tempted by the beach at Coral Bay?
Latchi on Cyprus
Another destination on Cyprus which you may well fancy is Latchi. This fishing village can be found to the north west of Cyprus, and borders
the Akamas National Park. Latchi is the place to come for a laid back holiday, and to get out and explore the Cypriot countryside. The beaches at
Latchi are shingle - so not the place if you're looking for the golden sands which other resorts can provide. What you can do though is sit in
a harbour side taverna, and enjoy some locally caught fish. You can also walk in the countryside - or maybe, try mountain biking down

Akamas National Park and Mount Olympus
Fancy some outdoor action on your villa holiday on Cyprus. Well, you're not short of options. There's also that coastline to explore, so
beaches and water sports are a given. But head inland to the Akamas National Park and explore this rocky terrain on a mountain bike. Either hire a cycle; or take
one of the guided tours available to really get into the wilds of this part of the Cyprus countryside.
Or walking. You don't have to spend hours in the saddle to enjoy the Akamas National Park; don your walking boots and experience the National Park, Cypriot style.

While Akamas National Park is fantastic for those outdoor activities like cycling and walking - you might well be looking for the nightlife. If that
sounds more your type of thing, head for Ayia Napa on the east coast of Cyprus. In recent years Ayia Napa
has become well known for its nightlife - so if that's your bag, this is where to go. There are a few villas on the outskirts of this resort, so you
can spend your days recovering by your pool, ready to go again the following night.
