Hyde Park Lane - a family holiday on Lanzarote
A family holiday in the sun, that's just what the doctor ordered - so the
family headed on down to the Canary Island of Lanzarote. To be specific, we took a
villa holiday at the villa resort of
Hyde Park Lane Villas
in the Puerto del Carmen region.
Splashing around in the pool at Hyde Park Lane Villas
Hyde Park Lane is a collection of "bungalows" with a few villas too. The bulk of the bungalows are located on a resort, with two main swimming
pools and a restaurant acting as the focal point. The villas, on the other hand, are to be found on the fringes of the resort. In fact you wouldn't
even know that the villas are part of a resort.
Nice & quiet - the location of our villa at Hyde Park lane
The restaurant and pools are all available to use - and only 2 minutes' walk from our villa. Although the villas do have their own private swimming pool
(which is fantastic, by the way), it's nice to start the day with a swim in one of the large swimming pools.
Our Villa at Hyde Park Lane
As mentioned, our villa at Hyde Park Lane has its own private swimming pool: about 7 metres x 3 metres (and 1.8 metres in depth) the pool is set
in the villa's small garden. You get sun loungers and an outdoor dining area too. There is also sufficient privacy when you're wandering around
in the just your swimming shorts. We had our holiday in "Capricornio", which is in a run of four villas, with each villa being separated by a stone wall and bushes.
The villa sleeps 4 people in 2 bedrooms - a double bedroom and a twin bedroom. The children had to share a bedroom, but seemed to cope
for a week without killing each other! The villa also contains the standard attire you would expect from a self-catering
holiday villa. A fridge to keep the carbonated beverages cool; cooking hob (never used by us); microwave (ditto); TV; dining table & chairs.
The thing is, you don't really spend a lot of time in the villa; that's not what a holiday on Lanzarote is all about. Oh, and there is
free Wi-Fi - with a strong signal all around the villa and the garden.

Around the area
It's not just the resort facilities at Hyde Park Lane which are close at hand; the sea front is less than a 5 minute stroll. A wide promenade
with playground, and a set of street gym equipment is available for all to use.
The vast beach and promenade - with plenty of room for walkers, joggers and cyclists
A plethora of shops and restaurants line the road to the north; a large sandy beach, and for any keen cyclists, a fantastic cycle lane runs along the road - and is then traffic
free for 7 miles all the way to Arrecife.
Is Hyde Park Lane for me
The villas were very quiet; as was the surrounding area. With the main occupants of the bungalows being people whose years would
suggest that their children had flown the nest several years ago. Our 14 year-old son found this a little disappointing as he was hoping
to mix with some youngsters of a similar age.
All in all, we had a great time: splashing about in the pool, having a bit of a read. Walking to the beach and restaurants, cycling along the sea front.
if that sounds up your street, Hyde Park Lane villas could be the holiday for you.
One final thing to mention - we were due to fly home at 22:00 on the last day, and expected to be without any accommodation for the day. This is always
a bit of a pain, but that's just the way it is. However, we spoke to the kind people in reception, and they let us keep the villa until the taxi picked us up at 19:30.
And, if that wasn't enough, there wasn't any charge for this - now that is what I call customer service!
