Gran Canaria is the perfect location for a holiday in the sun. Relatively
close to the UK, and having a warm climate, makes this an ideal place to have a
week or two away from everything; and spend some time mooching around in a
pair of flip-flops.
Getting to Gran Canaria
The Canary Islands, of which Gran Canaria is part of, are about a 4 hour flight
from the UK, and situated just off the west coast of Africa. The 4 hour flight
time make the Canary Islands especially popular during the winter months, because
they are one of the closest places to fly to and get guaranteed sun.
Booking a holiday
Pretty much all the tour operators will provide you a package holiday to the
Canary Islands, so you should be spoilt for choice. We recently took our children
for their first holiday overseas - we went to
the Hotel Orquidea in Bahia Feliz
for an all inclusive holiday extravaganza.
We booked our holiday from Thomson - you may well want to have a look
and see what offers they can give you.
Swimming, sun and happy children
Gran Canaria is a perfect family holiday destination, as we found out during our stay at
the Hotel Orquidea.
The sea is always hot; well, warmer than the North Sea off the UK's east coast,
anyway! And you'll find plenty of hotels with their own pool.
If you're a water park nut, take a trip to Aqualand
in Maspalomas, for a day of water based thrills; make sure you're sitting down when you see the price though.
During our week in the sun, our two children (aged 6 and 10), hardly ever got bored -
which is some kind of minor miracle. A combination of the
swimming pools, and sea kept everybody going.
If you're thinking of a family holiday in the sun, why not take a peek at the
Canary Islands, and see if you can bag yourself a good deal.
I hope you had as good time as we did.
If the thought of a villa holiday sounds good - but you've got children in tow, have a look at villa resorts which combine the advantages of having your own villa with the advantages of a resort's facilities.
Find a selection of holiday cottage in Beccles, Suffolk. The cottages of Riverside House, Butterfield House, Northgate Bakery, Honeysuckle Cottage and Burnt Hill House all have a video showing their location in Beccles.
Try a villa holiday in Europe and the Mediterranean during March, April and May. James Villas Spring Holidays is the place to look - and if you get in early enough you could get a bargain in the James Villa Holidays Half Price Sale.
Located next to the beach and surrounded by the Lagoa dos Salgados Lagoon and nature reserve, Vidamar Algarve Resort is a villa resort with holiday villas sleeping between 4 and 8 people. All villas at Vidamar Algarve Resort have their own pool.
A fabulous day out, the Falkirk Wheel links the Union Canal with the Forth and Clyde Canal. You have a variety of attractions at the Falkirk Wheel, including an Archimedes Screw, hire a cycle, paddle boats, or just a nice walk.
See the sights from the top of the Nevis Range in Scotland. Take a gondola up the mountain, and get some views from the Sgurr Finnisg-aig view point. You can always cycle down too - or take the cable car back down again.
How about a family holiday in the sun? The Balearic Islands make a lovely location for a holiday. We were recently fortunate enough to spend a few days at the all-inclusive resort of Marina Parc on Menorca. Close to the beach at Arenal d'en Castell, Marina Parc also comes with its own water park.
Great Yarmouth has an abundance of seaside attractions to keep both young and old occupied. For something a little calmer, how about a walk round The Venetian Waterways at Great Yarmouth. This peaceful waterway makes a glorious location to wander around.
