Recently we were lucky enough to enjoy a holiday for a week at
Hyde Park Lane on Lanzarote,
and had a good couple of days cycling along the coast. Hyde Park Lane is in Puerto del Carmen, which has a nice long cycle track and foot path running
all along this stretch of the Lanzarote coastline. An ideal place for some family cycling, Puerto del Carmen has a traffic free cycle route which runs
from the southern end of Puerto del Carmen, and carries on north all the way to Lanzarote's capital, Arrecife. A 10 mile long, continuous traffic free
cycle path is just what you need when cycling with the family. You can see the exact route along the seafront to Arrecife on
Map My Ride.

Hiring a bike
You don't need to take your cycle with you on holiday; that would be way too expensive. There are numerous cycle hire
shops along the seafront, with
ProAction BH being our shop of choice. ProAction BH are an
extremely professional outfit, although certainly not extremely expensive. An adult cycle cost €12 per day to hire (with
the price going down, proportionally, the longer you have your bike - I ended up keeping mine for 5 days for a drop
of solo cycling
adventures). BH ProAction is also close to Hyde Park Lane - which helps.
The route to Arrecife runs right next to the coast, with a good scattering of cafes and restaurants to be found all along the route -
after all, this is meant to be fun, not an endurance challenge. As well as having the whitewashed villas and mountains on one side, and
the sea on the other, the Puerto del Carmen to Arrecife cycle route also runs along the back of Arrecife Airport - it's well worth stopping to watch the
planes fly low overhead as they come into land.
