The villa was lovely, situated close to the main residence occupied by manuel and isabel, who were great hosts and on site the week we were there on their own holiday break. there were some lovely features in the villa itself and the grounds were just stunning. There was a private outdoor area overlooking the large pond were we did a bbq one evening. a very lovely place to spend lazy warm summer evenings. Great views across the farm to the nearby hills form the upstairs landing window. (another lovely area to sit in fact, if you can tear yourself away from everything else outdoors!). . a short stroll past the main residence gets you to the impressive pool area (and your welcome to pick lemons on the way, handy for those iced drinks later on!) the pool was lovely, clean, very large and had handy shade, table and chairs, outdoor and indoor shower/toilet areas.. oh and elecrticity sockets! just beautiful, is how i'd sum it up, peaceful. Kids and adults alike will love the pool. camhina is just a short drive away with most amenities including a ferry to spain. There is a food store a short walk from the villa which sells most of the basics. all in all an unusual villa, but very charming, we loved it.. not much more to say.. Michael from Haslemere (19 August 2017)
We had a wonderful time, this was our second visit! beautiful place Nazanin (12 August 2017)
Exactly what you need for a quiet two weeks away from it all. Villa was good and the area was great to explore Sarah from Wiltshire (08 July 2017)
Very pleasant and green surroundings, appears to be mostly made of granite blocks so cool on ground floor during 37 degrees heat when we visited. Swimming pool salt water and immaculate, 11m x 6m with cover which rolls easily on and off, shower, toilet and area in the shade. Owners very nice and helpful & only there at weekends. Mini supermarket and bar a short walk down the road. Plenty of restaurants nearby and in caminha about 12 mins away by car. Gavin from Sandwich, Kent (24 June 2017)
Quinta da varzea (lowland farm) is a beautiful location with very friendly and welcoming owners, manuel and isabel. However, due to it being a farm it is not as private as you may hope since the owners often return at weekends and there are groundsmen and women around the grounds working on the farm. Although they do not use the pool and rarely cross the grounds within the boundaries of the property, this does make it feel less private than you may hope. This not a negative, just something to be aware of. . the location is generally very quiet but the local village has an active nightlife and is home to a fairly major rock festival (festival vilar de mouros). when the local chapel is pumping out music, you can hear it clearly from the villa; this does seem to only occur on weekend nights, but can go on through to the early hours. This did not bother us, but previous guests have been disrupted by the music. . the local restaurant which has received excellent review has closed, but there are great choices in caminha such as o portao and jeni's diner. Personally, I would not bother with a ferry to spain, but if you do, I recommend you take a car - it is only 1 euro per person and 2 euros per car. . the villa was not as clean as I like to keep my house, but it did the job - and I am extremely fussy when it comes to cleaning! we had to replace the ironing board cover because it was falling to pieces, and we purchased a clothing line which provided a better way to dry our clothes - the washing machine was a very useful addition to the villa. . the villa is extremely well equipped with cutlery and crockery, but the bbq was the best way to cook - I didn't need any further tools than what was provided. However, the mini-oven/microwave and hob are not the easiest to use in our experience and we basically used them for eggs and slow frying. . I recommend brushing up on your portuguese (or spanish) before travelling as most locals can only communicate in their local language (understandably) or spanish. Most of the cafes and restaurants in caminha spoke good english, but supermarkets and local shops you will need your phrase book or an online translation tool at the ready. . I would not travel to north portugal for a pool in september as the weather is not predictable - talking to an american waitress at jeni's diner in caminha, august is very busy and other months are noticeably quieter. . overall, we relaxed, but the weather was not on our side so the the swimming pool was unusable for the first week and when we discovered it could be heated we requested this at 5 euros a day, but this was not successful and the pool was very much on the cold side and something you had to prepare yourself for! manuel did say we wouldn't have to pay if the pool failed to heat suitably though. Phil from Swindon (24 September 2016)
The villa was really good in terms of the size, space and quality of furnishings. There is really good outside space and the separate space by the pool is excellent. The views are fantastic. . we were made to feel very welcome and had the place to ourselves during the week as the owners go back to porto. . the only thing I would say is that the double bed is a struggle for anyone around 6ft (like me), as you will touch the headboard and the footboard!. . it was really relaxing apart from the music from the village - see my note below. Paul from Warwickshire (10 September 2016)
Our 3rd time - we will be back! . . it could do with a little breakfast table right outside the front door or a bench or similar to enjoy the morning sunshine! Anne from Emsworth (17 July 2016)
I have to say we were wowed by this property. The whole experience for my family was perfect. The views are majestic, the surroundings are superb and excellent if you're looking for something off the beaten track. My children picked lemons and oranges from the fruit garden, swam in the pool from sunrise to sunset and loved exploring. . it's a great base for venturing out. The local town caminha has everything you need. The only thing this place lacks is aircon. There is a fan to use but not adequate for 3 bedrooms. . I would return in a heart beat. Gemma from Coventry (09 July 2016)
A fantastic location and lovely little place. loads to see and do nearby. weather is a bit less predictable than further south, but if it's good, beaches are cracking. swimming pool is one of the best you'll see. the kids loved it. some noise at night from local dogs but nothing concerning. bed is cosy for those 6ft +. all in all a great spot. Matthew from Wolverhampton (04 June 2016)
Over all the villa was very good but is a little remote for people who want to have some night life. David from Hindhead (26 September 2015)
Beautiful historic villa in a tranquil setting. Caretaker maria and her son very helpful. We would love to go back again. John from Salisbury (17 May 2015)
Very helpful hosts, beautiful location and restored property with lots of character, larger than average pool with a pool house. House and gardens very well kept. Close to a lovely town with very good cafes and good value supermarkets. Order a welcome pack to save buying basics Elaine from Sheffield (27 September 2014)
We received a warm welcome from the owners. Excellent location, accessible to lots of lovely places to explore and eat out. The villa was very clean and well looked after. The pool area and the grounds of the villa were fantastic!. we would definitely recommend this villa to couples and families. Nichola from Ripon (26 July 2014)
The villa and grounds were absolutely beautiful, couldn't have been more pleased. Ms Shirani sarmazeh from London (August 2013)
The villa was exellent and the owners very friendly and extremely helpfully There are a lot of very interesting towns and places to visit less than an hour away, or perfect for just lazing around Mr Watt from Peterhead (July 2013)
The villa owners met us for check in and were outstanding, very nice people. The pictures on the website cannot do justice to such a wonderful location. Mr Chapman from Market Drayton (May 2013)
We were thrilled to bits with everything about the villa, pool, the area of Portugal and the holiday overall. Mr Thomas from Hereford (August 2012)
The villa is very comfortable and done to a high standard. The grounds, in particular, are stunning and there is a lot of outside space with natural shade, climbing vines and fruit trees. There are great facilities next to the pool which is slightly separate from the villa (great if you have children regarding the safety aspect) with a large lawn and private feel. Overall this is a lovely place to stay and wouldn't hesitate to book again. Mr Davies from Brighton (June 2012)
