A superb holiday! The lodge and and facilities were first class and the setting was relaxing and and quiet. The fishing was fantastic and our hosts were friendly and caring. I almost don't want to advertise how super this holiday was as I am tempted to keep this little gem in Yorkshire to myself! Mrs F from Doncaster
We would recomend Great Wood to anybody that wants to have a relaxing holiday. The fishing was excellent, the lodges were top class and the owners could not do enough for us. We will be going back next year - five star! Mr R from Reading
This was the cleanest and best maintained cabin we have ever stayed in, it exceeded our expectations, and Don and Helen are excellent hosts. Mrs. V from Utrecht
One of the best holidays we have had. Nothing was too much trouble for the owners, they treated us like family. Lovely setting, fishing unbelievable (in a week well over 100 fish caught) Will definitely be going back soon. Mr A from Louth
I would recommend this park to anyone who wants peace and quiet. We had a very relaxing time, ideal for recharging the batteries with plenty of wildlife to see. Mr K from Sudbury
Excellent accommodation and location, the owner could not have been more friendly or helpful and the fishing was great! Mr B from Deeside
This lodge was in a very peaceful and quiet area. The fishing was brillant and this was the ideal place for relaxing and "recharging the batteries". Mr L from Carrickfergus
We arrived stressed out and in need of a much needed break, and we left (reluctantly!) revived and rested. The accommdation is absolutely first class, the setting was idyllic and yes, the quality of the organic eggs are everything people have said about them. We would highly recommend this to anyone lookng for some 'time out' and a guarantee of a chilled and relaxed holiday. If you like to watch the glint of the sunshine reflecting on the lake or hear the soft patter of rain on the top of the water and hear nothing else other than the slurp of you drinking wine then book, but only if you can beat us to it first!!! Thanks to Don also for his master class in fishing and all his tender loving care that was lavished upon us during our stay!! Mr M from Rochdale
Had a wonderful and relaxing week at Great Wood Lodges. Very peaceful, excellent fishing and the lodges were finished to a very high standard and comfort. A very warm welcome by the owners - we felt we had known them for years after one day. The best place for meals out is the Blacksmiths Arms in Flaxton. Mr K from Sudbury
A nice, tranquil setting, completely self contained clean accommodation and wild life on the door step made for a relaxing break. Mr G from Mansfield
The perfect holiday. Don and Helen could not do enough for us, the lodges were 5 star and had superb facilities - great for a perfect getaway to relax in or to sight see. Mrs H from York
It could not be beaten for peace and quiet and really smart lodge accommodation. The owners are really nice people who could not do too much for you. The fishing lake is very good and the location lends itself to easy sight-seeing as well - a great place. Mr U from Ellesmere Port
Great Wood Lodges has to be the most peaceful and relaxing place ever! The wildlife is a constant source of entertainment and the standard of the lodge was excellent. Miss D from Alexandria
Anyone looking for peace and quiet in beautiful, clean, top quality lodges then look no further than Great Wood, York. My husband and I have enjoyed a wonderful weekend in one of the four lodges available, all of which surround a beautiful lake offering a wonderful spectacle of both flora and fauna. The attention to detail is what makes these lodges so special along with the warm welcome from Don & Helen. Ideally placed for a walk into Strensall to pick up provisions or a trip to the local in Flaxton which provided good food at reasonable prices. If you want to get away from it all this adults only retreat is just the place to do it. There is no doubt we will be returning again soon. Mrs B from Dronfield
Total tranquility, peace and quiet which is exactly as we wanted. Praise indeed for doing exactly what you said on the website - if Carling did holidays they would do Hoseasons!! Mr S from Boldon
We stayed at Great Wood Lodges for a midweek break. The accommodation was fantastically furnished and absolutely immaculate, and the setting was perfect for anyone who just wants to get away from it all. Miss M from Doncaster
We spent valentine's weekend at Great Wood Lodges and had a fantastic time. The accommodation was to a very high standard and the owner's hospitality was outstanding. The lodge was in beautiful surroundings with lots of wildlife to enjoy. As a young couple, looking for a relaxing and affordable short break, we couldn't have asked for more. We'd recommend these lodges to anyone. Miss R from Sheffield
Me and my partner have been twice now and we love it, will go again soon. It is a bit far from everything but we love that. Don who runs the great wood is very friendly and welcoming, there are only 4 lodges but all exactly the same except for the pictures in the lounge. The lodges are set around a big lake, great BBQ for in the summer. Don always gives us some free range eggs from his chickens and also provides milk, tea and coffee which makes you feel at home. In the lodge there is a full kitchen with dishwasher and even a washing machine, the bedrooms are quite big with an en suite and shower you also have another bathroom as well. We will go back next year. Mrs P from Bolton
Very welcoming, friendly and relaxing. Perfect break away from it all. Mrs C from London
Great place to relax great fishing. Mr M from Selby

Great Wood is an ideal base for visiting York and the North Yorkshire Moors. A wonderful park with fantastically built, decorated and furnished lodges set within the peace and quiet of woodland overlooking the tranquil fishing lake. The greeting and assistance provided by the owners was first class, and remember to take some bread for the friendly ducks! Miss G from Ashford
The best lodge we have ever stayed in - very clean, the welcome pack was fantastic, beautiful surroundings and a very warm welcome - perfect! Miss W from Thornton-Cleveleys
An excellent park for a quiet holiday with lots of wildlife close to the lodges. Once out of park you have easy access to all visitor attractions in the area. Mr B from Castle Douglas
A kind and friendly family run business, fabulous accommodation and a great location for walks, biking and sight seeing. Highly recommended and five stars from us! Mr D from Sunderland
An extremely spacious, clean, well decorated, well furnished, very comfortable lodge with the fantastic bonus of a hot tub. The staff were really helpful and friendly and offered lots of advice on places to visit and eat etc. Situated right on the river it was very peaceful and relaxing and a perfect place to be, and to explore local attractions. Lots of places to visit (particularly Fountains Abbey, Ripley Castle, Blymore icecream parlour and many more) all with a maximum drive of approximately 20 minutes. Everything was perfect and we can't wait to visit again! Mrs H from Barrow-Upon-Humber
Very peaceful and relaxing and the accommodation was immaculate! Mrs M from Port Glasgow
This is the most tranquil and peaceful holiday we have ever had. We love it so much, this is the second time we have been, and certainly will not be the last! Mrs K
I would highly recommend this park to anyone looking for peace and quiet - very, very good! Mrs B
The brochure said peace and quiet - we got this in triplicate, wonderful!!! Mrs W
A great location, and an ideal getaway for peace and quiet. Mr S
Location perfect, log cabin excellent and the equipment miles above expectations. The hosts were generous and helpful - Absolutely marvellous. Mr O
Excellent accommodation and far exceeded our expectations! 5 Star! Mr H
We have just come home from having a wonderful holiday at Great Wood Lodges. As we have been going through Hoseasons for the last 18 years we have been to a lot of lodges up and down the country. We overlooked Great Wood Lodges because of the picture, but can I just say this lodge was like a 5 star hotel - well equipped, spotless, and the owners Don and Helen treated us like one of the family. The fishing was excellent and it was a perfect retreat! Mrs L from Johnstone
Our holiday came round once more and bookings they were made,it was at yorkshire in a lodge, so peaceful, down a lane,When we arrived we loved the views, so quiet and all serene,it made us feel like we were spoilt, just like a king and queen,Fresh eggs and wine awaited us, a very kindly treat,so we sat down in our nice lodge, content and all replete,When Don turned up and greeted us, it really was quite nice,we felt all welcome and relaxed, we slept well all that night,Outside our door, we loved the views, with chickens by the score, with Cocky leading all the girls, he could have handled more,It's lovely here, it really is, we had a real good time,so now you know we will be back for eggs and maybe wine. Mrs B from Denny
An idyllic haven of peace and tranquility - the perfect retreat to relax and unwind! The setting of the lodges is absolutely perfect for those seeking an 'away from it all' break. Four eco-lodges on the edge of a lovely lake, surrounded by woodland, with an abundance of wildlife right on the doorstep. The lodges are of a very high standard regarding luxury and comfort, and are extremely well maintained and equipped by the owners, Don and Helen - the most helpful and welcoming of hosts whose attention to detail ensures a wonderful time is had by all.The village of Flaxton, which is approximately a mile and a half away, is 'picture postcard' pretty and has an excellent pub, The Blacksmith's Arms, which serves reasonably priced, delicious food. Many locals seem to dine there so booking in advance is probably advisable. There are lots of places to visit in the area and our only regret is that we were unable to stay longer. The North Yorkshire coast, York and Harrogate are all easily accessible and the beautiful estate of Castle Howard is just a few minutes drive away. Mrs M from Glossop
The holiday accommodation was superb and the owner "Don", very friendly and helpful. I would recommend the place to anyone and have done so already to friends and family! Thank you Don for a great time!! When can we come back??? Mr H from Stourbridge
This was a peaceful holiday and the fishing was great, Don who is the owner is very hospitable and makes you very welcome. This is in the middle of nowhere which was nice for walks and just chilling. Great place, just four cabins. Wild life all day and night. Mrs C from Leeds
From the second you arrive at Great Wood Lodges the stresses and strains start to drain away. You cannot help but be won over by the charm of the four eco lodges and their sublime location. With a genuine warm welcome from Don, the holiday was off to a cracking start. The lodge itself was meticulously built and didn't show any of the usual signs of holiday home lettings. It was warm, clean, well decorated and even had a welcome bottle of wine. There was a half dozen fresh free range eggs in the fridge and, if they were not in the fridge, they would still be warm having been laid the morning of your arrival by the on site chickens! The geographical location of Great Wood Lodges is perfect for a base for exploration - it is very close to York, Malton and Pickering, is well within reach of Scarborough, Harrogate and Knaresborough for a day trip, and is a stones throw from the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, which if you purchase the right ticket can take you to Whitby for Fish and Chips on the seafront. If exploration is not your bag, the lodges are ideal for relaxation - there's an abundance of wildlife who, sometimes, are willing to pose for photography, there's fishing on the Great Wood's own lake, or there are miles of surrounding countryside to explore at a pace all your own. Whatever you look for on a break, either short or long, if you can't find it here at Great Wood Lodges, then I would suggest you have expectations that are unachieveable! Miss B from Oldham
What a lovely place and what kind and friendly owners. The lodge was immaculate with all mod-cons, the fishing was superb and the wildlife was outstanding. What more could you ask for, apart from being there all year round? Excellent! Mr S from Wakefield

I would have no hesitation in recommending Great Wood as a holiday for people who want a quiet, restful break. Mr S from Wilmslow
Great Wood is a small place of tranquility, minutes from the centre of York. We relaxed in the cabin with all the mod-cons we wanted, yet there was a huge list of widlife wandering past the veranda - its not often you get four deer stolling past within touching distance when you open the curtains in the morning. If you truly want to jump off the rat race for a sole enriching week or weekend, Great Wood is the place. You'll be wishing you were back there within a week of returning to the daily toil, I did! Mr W from Preston
The accommodation was excellent and scrupulously clean, and the owner made every effort to make us welcome, and phoned us before hand just to ensure that we knew how to get there. We were also advised about local attractions and local shopping. Mr M from Kilmarnock
Great place, ideal for York and the coast. Host is very good and helpful. Peace and quiet here. Mr C from Leicester
