All round fantastic. Only one negative -the lodge we stayed in (golden oak) the floors were covered in dust and not nice underfoot. Needed a good wash . location and surrounding gorgeous would definitely visit again!
Stacey from Sheffield (31 August 2018)

Really lovely place. Good location and beautiful surroundings. We enjoyed our stay very much.
Ariel (27 August 2018)

A lovely log cabin set in peaceful woodland surroundings. Great value for money with great facilities and helpful staff
Matthew from Chesterfield (17 August 2018)

Great lodge with some nice forest walks right on your door step. The lodges are well equipped and very comfortable and cosy. We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay and the highlight was of course the hot tub! there was 5 of us in the group but there was plenty of room for everyone. Some great country pubs just a short walk/drive, would definitely recommend forest holidays.
Daniel from Sunderland (13 August 2018)

We have been to cropton cabins several times, and have been happy each time. The only thing I would like to see them introduce,is maybe a loyalty card ,or some kind of discount for people returning
Derek from Sunderland (27 July 2018)

An excellent stay in beautiful surroundings. Would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to relax and unwind. The breakfast in the forest retreat was great value for money and delicious. The staff were all first class and made us feel special. Can’t wait to stay again.
Rachel from Durham (23 July 2018)

We stayed in the golden oak lodge which is a high graded lodge. However on arrival to the lodge it wasn’t very clean and a bit rough around the edges. On the decking the seating wasn’t very safe it was difficult for my mum to sit on. It was a table and benches where other lodges had proper table and chairs. Other than that very nice lodge but didn’t fit with the grading.
Christine from Dalton In Furness (09 July 2018)

Lovely setting and we had a lovely time . kitchen could have been better equipped.
Elaine from Dsheffield (25 June 2018)

We had a lovely stay, nice lodge and hot tub, couple cosmetic issues but fine. . noise was a little off putting on two of the days of our stay due to forestry vehicles and work.
Jill from Durham (22 June 2018)

Nice location just let down by the cabin, there was mould in the bathroom and ants in the kitchen, staff friendly enough, probably wouldn't recommend though.
Kerry from Hull (22 June 2018)

Fantastic lodge, brilliant size for 6 people to share. We took our dogs they absolutely loved the forest walks. Hot tub was huge. Really enjoyed our stay and will definitely book again in the future.
Kyle from Hartlepool (11 June 2018)

The surrounding forest was lovely but the grounds where the lodges were kept were not that attractive. The lodges looked extremely shabby from the outside. On the inside the lodge was ok. I had to spend some time cleaning before I used the kitchen or bathrooms but it was not terribly filthy and the kitchen was well kitted out (though not much storage apart from fridge for food). if the weather is nice there’s no comfortable seating for outside so i’d recommend bringing your own folding garden chairs. The hot tub was the best thing. It was clean and checked every day by staff. Overall it was ok, I would not go in peak season as it’s really not worth the ridiculous premium they charge. I would not recommend this to anyone who is very fussy about nice grounds but if you’re happy to have basic, simple accommodation it’s ok.
Terry from Brompton By Sawdon (25 May 2018)

Went with a group of girlfriends for a birthday. Had a great time, beautiful lodge in wonderful surroundings. Very peaceful, went walking, hired bikes, used the hot tub and bbq’d. What a great break
Elizabeth from Leeds (14 May 2018)

Annaleise (04 May 2018)

Lodge was not clean, living area around sofa dirty. Obviously I have a dog but this lodge was dirtier than any of the pet friendly lodges I have stayed in. Could not see out of windows at low level due to ash from a previous bbq. I would recommend , hoping this is a one off.
David (30 April 2018)

Absolutely amazing, although they could be a little more activities for children, or a welcome weekend pack for the little ones.. and would be great for some night entertainment on site..
Adele from Hull (30 April 2018)

We had a fabulous time away at cropton. It was our first time away with our 6 month old. All the facilities were great and we especially enjoyed the hot tub
Amy from Preston (23 April 2018)

Lovely cabins in the woods. Loads of activities on site but they are a bit expensive. . . only downside is the dogs need to be on a lead at all times and no wi-fi unless you want to pay for sky
Felicity from Bradford (16 April 2018)

Lovely romantic setting and extra touches

Fabulous place, and lovely clean lodge. Only downside was the limited days activities were on, could only do certain things on a wednesday or sunday which made some activities out of each.

Cropton lodges felt impersonal. It felt like there was a constant attempt to get more money off us. we were forced to pay an exorbitant amount for the wifi package, and unable to watch our own movies as the management had removed the dvd player which were previously present at other forest holiday lodges we had stayed in. would prefer not to have to traverse racks of merchandise simply to get to the reception desk.

Lovely setting, we got stuck in the snow and the staff were helpful to move the car. The hot tub was perfect temp, cleaned daily and maintained its temp. . the lodges were set apart so it didn’t feel like we were too overlooked. . the prices in the shop were a little expensive but that was to be expected. . the park land and forest was gorgeous and great for dog walking and the amenities were spot on in the lodge itself. I would definitely visit this location again.
Rachael from County Durham (05 March 2018)

Not a very warm welcome from the girl in reception she was misrable and not much help. However the cabin was lovely and would go again the hot tub was great!

We have stayed in these lodges several times now, the one before this being the gold, that one was the best one, could'nt fault it , this one was ok. It was in a fantastic location and the emenities were ok, the wi-fi is really expensive and should be included in the price though.another fault with it was the decking and shelving outside had not been cleaned in a long time and also the benches and table, I had to clean them myself before I could use them.. with a scrubbing brush!!!!!

We actually came home a day early from a long weekend stay as it felt like such hard work and not the relaxing break we had planned and looked forward to. The lodge was filthy when we arrived and I spent my birthday evening cleaning it before we could sit down and eat. The decking and picnic table outside were so dirty they were unusable. The dishwasher didn’t work. The bathrooms were dated and run down. This cropton lodge was not up to the usual high standard of the other forest holiday locations we have stayed at and loved.

We visited as 2 couples with a 9 month old and 2 dogs, due to no phone signal on the site we had to pay £40 for the wi-fi on arrival so we were able to contact family etc should we need to. . . the beds were very uncomfortable and all members of our group agreed. Mattresses need to be replaced. . however the cabins were of a very high standard, comfortable, warm and family friendly. The location is close enough to the coast to have a drive and a day out. The new inn pub, close to the campsite serves great food. . the site shop and cafe were well stocked and staff were friendly . . . we have recommended to others and will definitely be staying again.

Very enjoyable break with the family. The paths and roads were very icy so consideration should be given to ensuring safe passage around the site in these conditions.

Lovely location of lodges with onsite bar/restaurant. would recommend a drink but not the food as it was awful. just frozen meals and not very tasty. make sure you take your own food or call into pickering before going to lodges. The lodges were clean and comfortable but needed a bit of updating now.

This was a fantastic holiday. the setting of the lodges in a forest is utterly beautiful. the huge windows of your lodge overlook the forest and your hot tub. The walks around the forest and site were fantastic. The cabins were stunning and clean inside. They were overall well equipped but we had to buy ice cube holders for the alcohol we brought and egg cups for breakfast..all trivial issues though. . we noticed that some of the cabins (including ours) needed a really good jet wash and paint but that didn't really affect our holiday. The only other downside is that there is literally no phone reception at all on site and wifi is incredibly expensive which I thought should either be free or charged at a much lower price!. the lodges are extra special and great for couples or families. Staff are very friendly. I would highly recommend.

Beautiful area and wonderful hot tub! lodge was tatty and well used in areas, paid alot for 2 nights and that was extra as we wanted a log burning stove however no logs were provided- we went to ask and were told quite rudely that they weren't provided and costed £8.50 for a tiny bag..quite dissapointing to say that other lodges we have stayed in have always provided them. Also no welcome pack- lodges we have stayed in before provided a little welcome pack with bread, cheese and biscuits etc. But nothing. It was missing the added extras and for the small amount of money it would have cost it would have been greatly recieved and we, and our friends would have returned. Also no wifi signal unless you pay (how stingy!) and absolutely no phone signal. Hiring bikes was £18 each..rather expensive! overall not impressed.

Really beautiful location. We had a very private lodge facing the woods. We were able to sit in the hot tub and watch wild deer, pheasants, squirrels and birds of all sorts. Paths are a bit muddy in places and I think the cleaner had had a bit of a bad day when we arrived, as there were no pans, the floor needed a sweep and there was a bag of someone else's rubbish outside. But this was quickly fixed. Also I do wish they would just include wi-fi in the price as there is no phone signal on site

Loved the cabin but could have done with a larger freezer. Family of 4 with lots of food really need a freezer. I couldn’t find how to turn down heating in cabin. Cabin was brilliant. I feel the charge for a week tv and internet package was a little expensive. Hot tub a welcome at night after kids in bed. The camp itself is ideally placed for long walks and the kids thoroughly enjoyed the rangers activities. I would definitely come back and bring my friends.

Perween (25 August 2017)

This place was pleasant but more suitable for privacy than anything else, totally depends what your looking for from a holiday it is very secluded, so go prepared with food etc. No phone signal and the wifi is extremely expensive. The accommodation is nice and the beds very comfortable, but- our first night the lights in the bedrooms didn't work, a pain at bedtime. There is no way to contact the duty manager from the lodges so you have to go to the reception building where it tells you which lodge they are staying in for "in an emergency". the lights were fixed the next day as I didn't report them in the night as "an emergency" then on night two our tv did not work and again as we were back at our lodge after reception had shut didn't feel could disturb anyone. The next day once tv fixed we were offered the entertainment package by way of compensation but unfortunately a storm on day 3 cut the wifi out so we couldnt even use all of this. When I mentioned this to reception they said they couldnt compensate me for something I hadn't paid for, even though it had been given in compensation for other things going wrong. A nice place to stay if you want a lot of seclusion and don't want to have to rely on the technology. But it is not walking distance to anything and expensive for what it actually is
Sarah from North Wales (25 August 2017)

We had a fantastic time at cropton. The lodge had everything we needed. Our only complaints are that we had to pay extra for wifi, and that the restaurant was not fully stocked. It ran out of essential food for the breakfasts every morning.
Emma from Sunderland (14 August 2017)

Fantastic place. Really loved the tranquil setting. Hottub and gas bbq were a great addition. Loved it that much we are going back in october with the dog
Phyllis from Barnsley (11 August 2017)

Stacey from Camblesforth (07 August 2017)

Outstanding accommodation, paid for sky and wifi, but didn't work for first full day and a half and no refund offered. Location was excellent, really quiet. Hot tub was always clean and ready for use. Site shop very expensive though. Bring your own food.

On the whole lovely clean cabin and beautiful surroundings. Thanks
Shirley from Bolton (31 July 2017)

The lodge was so dirty and grimey that we had to wash not only the cutlery (there were food pieces stuck to the forks knives and spoons) we had to wash the the dish drained which had mould stuck at the bottom. Instead of enjoying my first day I spent the whole time cleaning which is unacceptable for a place I paid a lot for 4 nights. Everywhere had either mould or layers of grime and dust stuck to it. I was at a same style lodge in gloucestershire about 4 years ago which was the complete opposite, it was so clean, staff were amazing as well. Who ever owns these lodges need to sort them out!!
Jasmina from Northampton (21 July 2017)

No good supermarket within 1 hour of lodges. no mobile phone signal at all if an emergency, fridge far too small for 4/6 people staying especially with no close proximity to good supermarket. issues with wifi and tv which we paid extra for.
Craig from Denny (21 July 2017)

Cabin was spacious and clean. Not overlooked at all. Hot tub was fabulous, and was nice knowing that it was checked daily. Gas bbq on the decking was well utilised by us. We thought the forest retreat a little disappointing in the food department and pricey for what you got.
Elizabeth from Lincoln (14 July 2017)

Not great, bad management, poorly stocked bar, no evening food. Hot tub not kept right. Reported nothing done. Wifi cut off most of sunday, bike hire bikes unsafe.
Clare from York (10 July 2017)

A lovely relaxing weekend perfect. Cooker didn't work properly but other than that was lovely
Julie from Houghton Le Spring (03 July 2017)

Very good location and surroundings. Only a short drive to the coast. Very clean and spacious lodge. Well equipped.
Pauline from Only A Short Drive To The Coast. (23 June 2017)

Staff very helpful and friendly .drinks and food reasonably priced too.great place to chill out ,relax and unwind and the hot tub was fantastic . . will be back
Martin from Leeds (16 June 2017)

Kids stated enjoyed more than an abroad holiday
John (02 June 2017)

Stay was perfect. Lodge beautiful but a little disappointed with cleanliness. Dusty areas inside and decking area very dirty. Also, hot tub was not tested during our stay. On the first day the member of staff came while we were in it so said he would come back- he didn't. We didn't see him again fir the whole stay and the water was not tested. By the evening prior to leaving we had to top it up ourselves and the water was very murky.
Jayne (08 May 2017)

Above input in error we stayed in silver birch 2
Ivana from Doncaster (01 May 2017)

It was a lovely place to stay it was very quiet and relaxing. Would stay there again.
Helen from Birmingham (28 April 2017)

Overall, our stay at cropton was lovely. the area was beautiful, great for long walks and bike riding and near enough to the coast to have a day at the beach.
Gemma from Wakefield (28 April 2017)

The location and set up of the cabins is absolutely perfect for a quiet, relaxing, secluded break. There are numerous walks nearby and the fact you can take your dogs is such a bonus! the hot tub was cleaned daily and was well received after a day trekking and adventures. The only downside is they are a bit pricey. It made a nice treat though.
Amy from Wakefield (21 April 2017)

Excellent location with good access to surrounding countryside and attractions.
Brian from Stoke On Trent (17 April 2017)

We had a fabulous weekend, the lodge was perfectly clean and had everything we needed. The staff were very happy to help with anything, even preparing the hot tub for our arrival...what a treat!!. we will definitely stay again.
Michael from Hull (10 April 2017)

Had an amazing holiday, everything is almost perfect. My only concern being although there is a sign in the bathroom about how slippery the bath is when wet, it doesn't help when you do slip and I feel that something further should be done to combat this. My wife had a nasty fall!
Christopher from Hull (03 April 2017)

We have had a fantastic time at cropton lodges with our h. Family & pets chilling out in hot tub ( not the dogs !!) lol, plenty of walks , we were very lucky with weather too. Staff were so helpful & friendly we will most definitely be coming back again sometime in the future. . unfortunately I am unable to download any photos as I have locked myself out of my phone &have unfortunately had to have a to have phone factory reset really gutted as I will lose all data & photos that we took whilst there.
Susan from Nottingham (03 April 2017)

Very relaxing
Mark from Kettering (27 March 2017)

Loved staying at cropton, will definetly be returning!!. thank you
Steph from Darlington (06 March 2017)

Lovely peaceful area. Staff were helpful. Lodges were well equipped and comfortable. The only drawback was poor drainage in the field where the lodges were situated resulting in lots of mud underfoot. Water was also sitting on all the paths. Also windows in the lodge were very dirty which obscured the fantastic view. The wifi was extremely expensive at approximately £9 for 24 hours and it feels a bit of a rip off we have stayed at other similar venues where it has been free. Room service was a nice touch. Otherwise a fantastic venue.
Lisa from Staffordshire Moorlands (06 March 2017)

4th time we have stayed needless to say we have booked again
Paul from Hull (06 February 2017)

Cabin was great had everything we needed. Check in was a bit of a pain as around 10 people waiting to check in, 2 staff on and one was also serving drinks to people so this room quite a while. Other than that great weekend. Good location, cabin was modern and clean.
Laurel (06 February 2017)

The site is extremely muddy, noisy neighbours taking no notice of the noise time restrictions and extra guests staying. Staff are extremely helpful. Accommodation is nice although bedrooms are small.
Carole from Darton (30 January 2017)

Amazing time at cropton lodges. . could have done with a hoover and a bigger fridge but overall lovely lodge and site. . staff were very friendly and helpful.
Colleen from Durham (27 January 2017)

This was our second visit and it won't be our last. Excellent staff, beautiful surroundings, amazing lodges and relaxing fun.
Michael from Leeds (16 January 2017)

First ever new year spent away from home - I can highly recommend cropton lodges!
Claire from Durham (02 January 2017)

Lovely stay at these lodges very impressed at hot tub cleaned every day
Suzanne from Peterlee (02 January 2017)

Had a great time only problem was having to pay £10 a day for all three dogs, would have been nice if you had discount for three dogs which I get when I put them in kennels. . could have done with a little more wardrobe space in main bedroom and bedside tables could have draws in or a shelf at the bottom rather than been open to the floor
Michael from Skelton Green (07 October 2016)

I had the best time ever back to basics with no mobiles or computers had real family time and will most defently be back
Lainah from Jarrow (03 October 2016)

A really nice lodge, lovely setup and very clean. Absolutely no complaints at all. We unfortunately had to leave after 1 night as our dog would not settle and just cried. So it did turn out to be a expensive one night away. But I would certainly stop again (just without our dog)
Rachael from Sheffield (16 September 2016)

Thought it was expensive and didnt like the long walk from car to cabin when you have to make a few journeys its not good to be 50 yards from your cabin and when ive stopped at other cabins there was a few things like milk etc already there also the reception was really expensive. Go again! no thanks.
Michael from Peterlee (05 September 2016)

Fantastic holiday. All the family enjoyed it.
Richard from Hexham (02 September 2016)

Check in is too late 4pm ,that is the first day nearly over, thought the cabin overall could have done with a complete deep clean ,didn't get the wow factor.our main bathroom was dirty ,lots of black hairs everywhere, having a baby and small child this was not acceptable, contacted reception via the television but when someone came we had already cleaned it ourselves.the hot tub was a bonus.
Angela from Rotherham (29 August 2016)

Lovely place, although hot tub on decking didn't feel very private. . dishwasher did n't work and wasn't replaced during our stay . no apology or refund offered.
Sarah (29 August 2016)

Great holiday, good time to chill.
Natalie (22 August 2016)

Fantastic lodge, even better hot tub. Had a really relaxing holiday, we'll be back.
Rebecca from Penrith (12 August 2016)

Lovely clean lodges and hot tubs , cabin 49 in great position
Eileen from Hull (12 August 2016)

Excellent peaceful location. Very kind, helpful & considerate staff.
Diane from Wakefield (12 August 2016)

Excellent accommodatio
Amy from Northumberland (08 August 2016)

A fabulous place to go unwind and relax with family. Didn't want to come back.
Bally from Derbyshire (05 August 2016)

Overall very enjoyable holiday, but the restaurant gets really full and its a long wait for food. The first night we stayed we had to wait 2 hours for our pizzas, but they did give it to us for free, but we did have a starving child. There wasn't alot of choice in the shop and restaurant, so I would bring supplies or eat out. . but overall it was a very quite a peaceful location and close to nice market towns. Hot tub was amazing and the lodges are nice and clean.
Stuart (01 August 2016)

Spacious, clean and well equipped lodges. Surrounded by woodland, with marked walks and bike trails.
Fiona from Cumbernauld (01 August 2016)

Great cabins . very modern and homely . they do not feel like rentals . hot tub was great . package of films and wifi £30 a bit unexpected . overall really good !
Lisa from Manchester (25 July 2016)

Had a lovely time at the lodge with family. We didn't do any of the activities available as we were there for chilling and went to explore the local areas ourselves. The lodge was clean and comfortable. There was more than enough room for the six adults. We just needed a bigger fridge freezer to fit the food and drinks in for the 3 nights! I had no complaints. Hot tub was great. Surroundings were really peaceful.
Rachel from Manchester (04 July 2016)

Beautiful, superior quality! can't wait to book again next year!
Hannah from Sheffield (27 June 2016)

Great place to stay, we really enjoyed our relaxing week.
Natalie (17 June 2016)

Simply put, one of the best and most relaxing breaks away ever! worth every penny spent, planning to make it an annual event! my daughter and her partner thoroughly enjoyed it too. And as for our two border collies, they were totally chilled, which is a first for them! absolutely perfect!
Wendy from Cleator, Cumbria (10 June 2016)

One of the most relaxing holidays in a long time. the lodge we stayed in was perfect positioned.
Cheryl from Lincoln (10 June 2016)

The lodge was fantastic had great facilities the only thing missing us possibly a roof for the hot tub will return
Julia (23 May 2016)

Nice relaxing place
Neil from Ingleby Barwick (23 May 2016)

Wonderful lodge , great surroundings amazing hot tub good time had by all . thank you .
Katherine from Nantwich (15 April 2016)

Enjoyed it.
Amanda from Skipton (28 March 2016)

Peace and quiet just what we wanted
Mark from Morpeth (18 March 2016)

The cabin was very well placed clean tidy and ready for use on arrival . the beds and furniture where comfortable doing and all the facilities in the cabin where in good order . the retreat was well presented and staff very helpful . we would and most probably will return again to cropton unfortunately we did have a problem on the last night as when we returned home from our day out the hot tub was empty and we was infrormed that the tub had green in the bottom and that this was due to spending too much time in the hot tub . this we would disagree with as we did not spend that much time in the hot tub but we did enjoy it when we did . it was quite unfortunate that there was a problem as the day before someone told us it had been cleaned and they had changed the filters and said it was fine to use so you can imagine our surprise when the very next day we where told that the hot tub had a problem
Peter from Barnsley (26 February 2016)
