Holidays in Southwold - things to do
So you've decided to take a holiday in Southwold, which is a very good decision. Southwold is an excellent
place to spend some time, and great place to re-charge the old batteries. Well known for being "stuck in time",
Southwold doesn't believe in all the fast-food establishments, noisy amusement arcades and nightclubs which adorn
other seaside towns. A holiday here can be like stepping back to the 1950's. And I mean that in a good way.
Situated on the East Coast of England, in the county of Suffolk, you'll find plenty of things to keep you busy during your
holiday - unless you like the fast-food establishments, noisy amusement arcades and nightclubs. Have a look at some
holiday cottages in Southwold
for your perfect stay here.
Things to try in Southwold
Try the Southwold Lighthouse tour: you can see the surrounding coast, and get a birds-eye view of Southwold itself.
The tour lasts about 20 minutes, and is really nice thing to do.
For something slightly less sedate, try the Coastal Voyager. This is a 400 horse power boat which will give you the chance
to speed around Sole Bay, just off the coast Southwold. You get the opportunity to ride around for 30 minutes, before being
dropped off back at Southwold, or take a one way ride and get dropped off at Dunwich. This is certainly a way of adding some
exhilaration to your day.
A more genteel way of spending your time in Southwold is to have a walk along the newly restored pier. Have a look at the
"Under the Pier Show", and have a go on some of the hand made amusement machines. And make sure you have a look at the water clock
at the end of the pier - this always causes a smile.
For those who are visiting during the summer months, it's well worth spending a couple of hours at the Southwold Maize Maze.
You'll find a maze cut into 8 acre maize field, and with the crop being 6ft high you will have a hard job cheating. There's also a
small playground, sand-pit and go-carts - so the children can have a little play when you've reached the centre, and you can
have a site down.
Southwold is well known for its amber, and if amber interests you, take a look round the amber museum here. It'll
tell you all you need to know.
Lastly, and one for all you real ale drinkers out there, is Adnams - Southwold is the home to Adnams. So if you like a drop of real ale,
take a visit to any of the Adnams pubs here, and sample some of the latest produce.
