You're probably here because you're looking for a Portland Holiday in 2013 - well, Portland Holidays have become part of
Thomson Holidays now. In fact,
Portland Holidays has been owned by Thomson for several years, but since 2011 the Portland brand has been stopped, and all holidays
are now sold through Thomson. All's not lost though - it's still worth having a look at Thomson to see what they can offer you in the
way of a good deal.

Rhodes
Rhodes is a mesmeric collage of deep blue skies, crystal clear seas and historic beauty.
It has more hours of sun than any other Greek island and some wonderful beaches to while
them away on. Inland olive groves and mountains are home to enchanting villages and ancient
ruins.
Food & Wine in Rhodes
Starters, or meze as the Greeks call them, are delicious and varied: try
calamari, rings of squid fried in batter served with lemon, delicately coloured
pink taramasalata made with fish roe and served with olives and pitta bread, dolmades,
little parcels of rice and meat wrapped in vine leaves, whitebait or salads piled
high with feta cheese and black olives. Ouzo is the traditional aperitif, served
with a little cold water which gives it the familiar cloudiness. Choose your taverna
for an evening meal, or join the locals in one of the small cafs, slightly off the
beaten track. Seek out performances by local folk dancers - audience participation is often welcomed!
Days & Nights in Rhodes
Faliraki is the party capital of the island though Rhodes Town runs it close in terms of
vibrancy but with a splash of sophistication. Resorts such as Lindos and Ixia are more geared
to those who prefer their nights a little quieter while Kalithea is for those who really want to
unwind.
Sights & Sounds in Rhodes
Sightseeing: The old town of Rhodes Town is the largest inhabited medieval town in Europe.
Its winding cobbled streets are well worth a visit. Nearby Ialyssos, used by Sleyman the Magnificent
during his 16th-century siege of Rhodes, is another interesting mix of architectural styles.
Sun & Sand in Rhodes
Wherever you go on Rhodes you won't be too far from its wonderful beaches, whether they be
tiny coves, the slightly more exposed and rocky beaches of the west coast, or long stretches of
golden sands, perfect for relaxing and soaking up the sun. Lindos reaches the hottest temperatures
on the island and is much favoured by sun-worshippers. For the more energetic, there are a variety
of watersports - Trianda and Ixia, are excellent for windsurfing and Kalithea is renowned for its
underwater treasures and snorkelling opportunities.
