Westgate cottage was in a lovely part of the iow and reasonably close to ventnor - a short drive or 30 minute walk along the coastal path. we didn't have any internet access, but this was rectified after a couple of days. The owner acted quickly when advised. . downsides.. the toilet in the main bathroom needs attention as it continues to run after being flushed and needed the button 'wiggling' until it stopped. not really any local amenities, but we regarded that as a plus, but some might not. On the plus - well equipped kitchen, tvs and sky tv with a lot of cd and dvd players and plenty of films to watch, games and toys for a wide age range. pretty garden and table and chairs. It is a great place for a large group of guests. Trevor from Hawkhurst (29 July 2017)
Amazing time, location and cottage was private and well equipped will defo return! Lisa from Aberdare (19 June 2017)
We had a fabulous 5 days at westgate cottage. Large and spacious with lovely garden. however, we feel improvement can be made. The whole place was covered in cobwebs and the kitchen was a little greasy. The highchair was dirty, the toaster needs replacing and the door to the tumble dryer is broken. The main bedroom had an old musty smell to it. With these few things being dealt with and a lick of fresh paint this place would be a 10/10. Would we return? yes. I would recommend the owner gets a professional team of cleaners in for a deep clean every few months. Bev the housekeeper works hard however, changing bedsheets and running the hoover round is just not enough. Sarah from Watford (02 June 2017)
The cottage was very dirty on arrival. Fridge hadn't been cleaned. Kitchen waste bin smelt of fish. Spare bed linen smelt of urine. There is a hole in the garden where a child or dog could get a leg trapped and it has just been covered and us very unsafe. . I have written to the owners who have not even had the decency to respond. M H from Birmingham (03 September 2016)
A very well-equipped and spacious property, suitable for extended family holidaying together. (in our case, 6 adults, 2 children and a dog). the living room is huge, and there are toys, books, dvds and a large dining table, although the kitchen is big enough to eat in, and very well equipped. We never felt crowded or on top of each other. The minor downsides: the garden is not large, although it's enclosed, so it's safe, and there was no barbecue. There is only one bathroom (but two loos). we coped fine, but we had no teenagers in our party..if you did, then it might have been an issue. All in all, we had a brilliant week. Elaine from Cardiff (13 August 2016)
A charming and spacious cottage in a lovely tranquil part of the island. Well-furnished and with an excellent range of equipment and facilities, the cottage's walled garden provides total security for small children as well as dogs. My party of six adults and two dogs enjoyed a very pleasant long weekend based at westgate cottage. The first impression of the cottage on our arrival was very favourable and set the seal on a hugely enjoyable break, aided by warm sunny weather throughout. the addition of a power shower would be recommended. Neville from Guildford, Surrey (09 May 2016)
Had a great time, took the dogs to some beaches, visited some national trust locations and went to robin hill. Enjoyed lunch twice at the dairymans daughter!! Lisa from High Wycombe (25 April 2016)
A nice base. Slightly lacking in out door space /garden. Also the electric hob was not the most user friendly. Overall very homely and would definitely go back. Confirmed Guest (28 March 2016)
5 adult managed to have a nice time despite the cottage. beds and house not ready on our arrival. Maintenance equipment out in bedroom. kitchen lights only half working. old filter with coffee in machine - a lot older than one week. Bedrooms musty. Shower a dribble ( remember he house is for 8). fridge not clean. living room was well presented and quite cosy. amount of past and pan sin kitchen was good. But cutlery, cups, plates etc - all oddments Geraldine from Highcliffe On Sea (28 December 2015)
Beautiful location and holiday home. Lovely woods to walk through (opposite westgate), for my dogs and park and facilities just up the road. The garden is enclosed so perfect for those who have dogs that like to explore as they cannot get out. The living area is huge so we could all enjoy being together in the evenings eating and watching movies. The owner has provided lots of local activity leaflets to browse through and for a rainy day lots of games and dvds for us to enjoy. This was our second visit to westgate and we have been staying on and off on the island for 30 years and westgate is one of the best cottages we have been to. Great all rounder!!. the withall family Helen from Kent (01 November 2014)
