The house was ok, but a little expensive for what you get. the lack of parking is a pain which we knew about during booking. the owners kindly offered to cover parking costs during the busy time we were there, but its a aggravation of it all with children and grand parents in tow as we had 3 cars to deal with exacerbating the issue. . the kitchen has very little work space which is an issue when cooking for 8. the dining table is a bit cramped for 8 (plus food). the weather wasn't too kind so we couldn't use the table on the balcony (which was a decent size). the layout is a bit ill thought through down stairs, but I guess its due to the fact it was 2 cottages before. . the towels on arrival smelt a little damp, and there are a few cobwebs in the hall so that hadn't been cleaned for a long while. . appledore itself was nice, and easier to get to. the view over the estuary is also pleasant. access to north devon was also very good. the owners left a bottle of wine and biscuits so that was a nice touch, but unfortunately we wouldn't want to go back to waterside and stay again. I am not being snobby but when you pay that sort of money for a week it needs to be better than your home and its fell significantly short. Greg (21 July 2017)
Lovely house with great view from adult bedrooms and upstairs open plan worked perfectly for the three generations in our party. My only criticism is the cleaning wasn't so great, when we opened the shutters down stairs the dirt behind has been there along time, also the skirting boards needed a wipe. All in all a fantastic place. Jane from Haslemere/Surrey (14 July 2017)
A relatively late booking, the house was much bigger than we needed but we were happy to pay the premium for such a great location, wonderful views and generous outdoor space, and the property fulfilled on all of these points. the great weather allowed us to use the deck area to the max - it caught the sun until around 6pm the week that we visited - and we loved the views over to instow. The only downside for us was the quality/cleanliness of some of the kitchen equipment - the house itself is very comfortable, spacious and well laid out, and appledore is lovely. Lee from Edinburgh (07 July 2017)
Just spent easter week at the waterside. the property is beautiful and the views across the estuary are unrivalled. upside-down layout of the cottage means the open plan top floor makes the best of the views. . the village has lovely pubs, deli and fish and chip shops and plenty of variety for a week in appledore. . . minor point - the broadband speed is slow, so if you need internet speed, then ensure you have 4g connectivity, which was working fine. Kate from Worcester (21 April 2017)
Great cottage with unrivalled views of the river and surrounding areas. . warm cosy and spacious place to stay with all the modern techs of today. We arrived to a lovely clean cottage and a lovely welcome gift from the owners. We woke up one morning to a large puddle of water in the kitchen, but the housekeeper was able to contact a plumber to come out that day. Despite this everyone enjoyed themselves and have taken back home fond memories. Confirmed Guest from Hampshire (30 January 2017)
This was a last minute booking (far bigger than we really needed!) and we found the property with ease and were delighted with the location and the property itself, which is comfortable, stunningly arranged and furnished. the bed in the en-suite bedroom is luxurious and the views from the main bedrooms and the upstairs living area are just spectacular. despite the autumnal chill we were able to enjoy the large outside space. On arrival we had some difficulty getting the hot water/heating to work. (the information said it would all be set). finally I range the two numbers given as local contacts. I left messages for both. did not hear back from the 'caretaker' but a lady range me back from the other number. she suggested that the heating engineer had probably switched off all the system at the master switch and suggested I try to locate the switches and put them on. this I did and all was well. . we had a wonderful holiday in this property and the owners are to be congratulated on the beautiful home they have created. An added bonus to our visit was the appledore book fair which we thoroughly enjoyed! Sheila from Westhouse (01 October 2016)
Great place, great situation, great accommodation. we are likely to visit again. Just 2 things: 1 - an included weekly parking permit for the remote car park would have been appreciated as there is no alternative parking. 2 - it is extremely difficult to use the shower in the master bedroom. in the very small shower unit, there is a large shower head which sprays from the ceiling. in order to switch the shower on and adjust the water temperature you either have to reach through from out of the shower getting yourself and the bathroom floor wet (and possibly scalded), or get into the shower before switching it on, getting sprayed with either very cold or scalding water. the shower unit is not big enough to stand out of the water spray while you adjust it. it would have been better to have a shower over the large bath. Phil from Selston (09 September 2016)
A beautiful property with a stunning view over the estuary. Veronica from Wells (26 August 2016)
The warerside is the most amazing cottage. With the ultimate in comfort and incredible views I can't recommend this place enough. It is spacious and well laid out with all the comforts of home. We stayed with our 3 young children and had a lot of fun crabbing and playing at the beach. There are plenty of things to do in the area if you don't mind driving a bit. Parking is a bit of a pain but don't let that put you off: it's worth it! Laura from Reading (19 August 2016)
The property is beautiful. The owners have obviously spent spent a lot of care and attention making it a comfortable and stylish home. The view is amazing and its position in the village, close to amenities is great. A real treat. Danielle from Sandbach (03 January 2016)
We found the cottage delightful but the parking was not easy - struggled to find a place closer that a ten minute walk away ! ok for the weekend we were there as it was fine and sunny . found the unloading of the car very difficult as our ranger rover blocked the road and we had to keep moving the car to let other cars pass. Ann from Bristol (05 October 2015)
Had a great week here. Great location and wonderful property. Mike from Maidstone (02 October 2015)
We enjoyed a fabulous week at the waterside. Wonderful views. Spacious, clean, comfortable beds, fantastic bathrooms . short walk to all that's available in beautiful appledore. We even managed to buy some seabass from the friendly local fisherman who pulled up on the beach below the balcony one evening. We sat on the balcony the next night eating our delicious locally caught fish dinner while the sunset .. fabulous ! Jo from Oxford (14 August 2015)
Excellent house and facilities set in lovely village. Jem from Saffron Walden (31 July 2015)
I didn't want to rent this property , I wanted to buy it!. I loved the waterside but, I don't want to tell you how lovely it is in case it gets booked up and I cannot get the week I want!. if there was a negative it is a lack of parking though, we know appledore well and were prepared for that. you can buy a tourist parking permit which makes life a bit easier. Fantastic outlook, everything at the accommodation you could possibly want including the balcony furniture. . it was quite expensive but worth it. Sanchia from Ash, Surrey (17 July 2015)
Absolutely beautiful Kerry from Derby (12 June 2015)
Fantastic views from a very comfortable, modern cottage. perfect holiday. Joanna from Warwick (20 February 2015)
