Some furniture in dining room and living room are different to website, so felt older inside eg dark, heavy wood dining table. appears modern in the photos, but not the feel of the place inside. Parking was very tight as people park opposite, and is already a narrow road - garage not large enough for our large family car. kitchen only big enough for one, which was a bit tight as it sleeps 7. good views of town. Ali from Bishop'S Stortford (02 June 2017)
Had a fantastic weekend with friends and are kids. Only down side is that all the doors are fire doors (great for fire safety) but not so good for little kids and their fingers. Marie (15 May 2017)
Comfortable house in a splendid location, very near to country walks and the town centre. Diana from Bath (21 April 2017)
The old dairy is situated within walking distance of matlock and enjoys panoramic views over the town. The cottage is comfortable but suffers from two problems. 1. The cottage is located in a narrow lane and parking can be extremely difficult if multiple car usage is envisaged. 2. The accommodation is for seven people but there is only one bathroom, although the upstairs bedroom does have a toilet and wash hand basin. The resulting shortage of bathing facilities causes problems when fully occupied. Other than the above reservations the cottage is ideal for exploring the peak district Kathryn (07 April 2017)
The cottage itself is absolutely fine and the only problem we had with the property is the parking situation in the very narrow lane it lies on. The photo is slightly deceptive in the the driveway can only hold one car. The other has to go in the garage and if you had another car,you would have park it in the very limited areas around the property. The lane is steep and you can easily scrape the front of your car accessing the road back into matlock. Otherwise the bedrooms and other facilities were great(bar the very small shower) and the main street in matlock is just a couple of minutes walk away. Matlock bath is about 20 minutes walk away. Jon from Grimsby (23 February 2017)
Had a lovely time nice and clean lovely bedrooms .setees not very comfy. We would visit again. Mary from Nottingham (28 December 2016)
Really good place to stay has every thing you need .not far from the town.would highly recommend. Confirmed Guest (07 November 2016)
Certainly not four star accomodation as listed. no shower in en suite, no shaver socket, settees certainly seen better days. eventually managed to light the gas fire, but not easy to achieve. overall cleanliness not great, base of pole holding the shower fitment in the bathroom was black with dirt. oven very dirty, we didn't even contemplate using it. better signage needed on outside of house, difficult to find. Large box of thorntons chocolates left for us, which was a nice touch, but didn't make up for the disappointment we felt. Customer 8 from Melton Mowbray (07 October 2016)
A cosy place to stay, ideal for our family holiday with the children and grandparents. The town centre is a couple of minutes walk downhill with nice places to eat and a lovely park to entertain the children. We would stay here again if visiting the area. Janet from Essex (19 September 2016)
The old dairy has everything you could need. It is well equipped throughout. The location is ideal for getting about and has lovely views of the surrounding areas. A few people on the reviews said they couldn't get their car into the garage because the lane was too narrow but I have a fairly big car and if you can drive properly, although a bit tight you are able to get in there. For those who are less able bodied it could be an issue as the lane to the property is quite steep and there's three flights of stairs to get to the top floor and the living room and kitchen are one flight up. Because it sleeps seven people I thought it would be a bit cramped but there is actually lots of room in there. To sum up we had a lovely time there and would definitely go back again. Darren from Leicester (16 September 2016)
Clean welcoming cottage within walking distance of town centre, local supermarket and train station. All ideal if you are using railway as your means of transport to and from the cottage. In which case I would recommend the cottage to rent. Parking however is a serious issue. unfortunately nothing can be done to change the parking situation which is a shame because otherwise it is a very lovely place to stay with some stunning views. Jane from Bungay (29 August 2016)
1. The stairs in the property were very steep and the property is not at all disabled friendly. 2. The drive is very steep and if you ha d a medium/large car you would not get it on the drive. There is no mention of this in the property description. 3. The seating in the lounge left a lot to be desired. The sofas were all very tired and need replacing. 4. The kitchen is small for a property that caters for 7. 5.the beds were not comfortable. 6. The lack of a tumble dryer is a big downer, especially in an area that has a lot of walking. Michael from Lincoln (26 August 2016)
House was in a very good position for access to the town and there are wonderful views of the countryside. House is only 2 minutes walk from restaurants, shops and cafes. House very clean and comfortable and the owners left a huge box of chocolates for us, which was truly appreciated. An added bonus was the garage as holt road is very steep at either end with lots of sharp bends. Every one parks along the stone wall right opposite the properties, so there is very little room to (a) drive along the road (b) park. Only downside was we have a medium size car and it always involved a lot of manoeuvres to get in and out of the garage because of how close the parked cars were to the garage entrance. Jacqueline from London (01 July 2016)
Great cottage with four bedrooms..just park the cars and off you go walking around derbyshire and the town has a good supply of pubs and restaurants for the evenings. Peter from Jacksonville (20 June 2016)
Excellent cottage in a lovely location! perfect base for exploring matlock and peak district. Lots of hills (obviously) so be prepared..! Hannah from Warwickshire (03 June 2016)
We had a great stay at the old dairy as a family weekend away with various ages present. It's a lovely house with amazing views and only a hop into the centre of matlock and 20 min walk to matlock bath (or 2 min train ride!). the cottage is really comfortable and well-equipped. It's on quite a steep hill/lane with tight parking - but we managed to find free parking all wkd for 4 cars, so it was fine (we used the drive and garage and then parked the others on the lane). the only thing I might say would be a 2nd shower would be useful for a 4 bed cottage (although there were 3 loos). would definitely stay again and recommend to others. Amy from Berkshire (16 May 2016)
We had a lovely time at the old dairy over may bank holiday. The house was really lovely and clean. It looked well looked after and didn't have lots of random furniture (unlike some other rentals we have had). the owners left clear instructions for picking up the key and some chocolates which was a nice touch. The parking is a bit tricky to get into but it wouldn't put us off staying here again. Joanne from Hertford (02 May 2016)
The property was very nice and perfect for a base to where we needed to go. The only downside that we had was no wifi even though I brought bt trying hard to make sure that my 2 teenage daughters had the internet access. Tracey from Dover (08 April 2016)
Excellent! we had a lovely welcome with a bottle of wine having had a very informative conversation with the owner over where to go, there were 7 adults in our party and plenty of room, we all slept well, cooking facilities were good and lovely roomy table to eat round and play games after. Plenty of walks in the surrounding area, would definitely rent again for a family get together. Keely from Southampton (14 March 2016)
Having stayed here before we knew we were in for a treat. Again it was spotlessly clean, warm and welcoming. We were 7 adults - a family get-together, from essex, oxfordshire, london and harrogate . we had a lovely weekend, walking around carsington reservoir, tea at cromford, at wheatcroft’s wharf café and visiting the shops in the mills. Saturday night -takeaway from thailand no 1. Sainsbury's is close by for groceries. Views over matlock from the house were lovely, day and night. being so close to the centre meant anyone could pop out for an explore. The owners are extremely kind and helpful. I would definitely recommend this accommodation. Mary from Oxford (29 February 2016)
Lovely house. Spent most of weekend in the house as the weather was bad. Plenty of space but with all facilities in matlock on the doorstep. Comfortable beds. Emma from Bath (08 February 2016)
Everything was great, apart from the beds..they were quite hard and meant we were unable to sleep very well, plus the walls are very thin! we could hear each other in the next room, but that wasn't much of an issue. For those staying in future, if you have a mattress topper, would advise taking it and maybe some earplug's if you have a noisy family ;-) . everything else was spot on and the owners were wonderful and couldn't do enough for us to make sure it was all set up and ready for our stay. Leanne from Hull (29 November 2015)
My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed staying at the old dairy in november 2015. The house was wonderfully warm as the temperatures outside plummeted and snow fell. The bedrooms are a good size, with lots of space for bags and the open space living area on the first floor was great. There was a nice comfy sitting area with a tv, dining table and kitchen. The footstall contained several board games for evening entertainment, while the bookcase contained lots of great advice about the local area and tourist attractions. . . the house is ideally located in matlock, with the rail station and sainsbury’s supermarket only a quick walk away (5 minutes). if you don’t fancy cooking in the evening, there are lots of friendly pubs, restaurants and take-away places in town. You can leave the house, walk along the river derwent and up to high tor for great views which are typical of the peak district within minutes, I recommend the old dairy. Alex from Harrogate (23 November 2015)
The cottage was perfectly located, lovely and clean and equipped with everything we needed. The beds were comfy too. Thank you. Angela from Loughborough (09 November 2015)
I would like someone to contact me..i was disappointed with the cottage. . the parking situation is extremely poor. For a home that sleeps 7 the parking is very difficult to get in and out and it almost impossible. We had to ask the neighbour if we could use their space. The standard of furnishings was very poor too..the oven didn't work and noticed someone else had mentioned it in the guest book (last year) so we had the extra expense of eating out every day. There was no underlay under any of the carpets which meant you could hear every step above and also could hear easily when the tv was on downstairs. The other furnishings were of a student accommodation standard - cheap and basic. The only good point was the location. I think the owners need to dip into their pocket and try and make it a more comfortable and pleasant place to stay. I myself own a holiday let and would not consider having a single fixture or fitting from the old dairy. They should try to get the parking situation fixed or you should be advising people that only small cars are suitable. Ben from North Devon (25 September 2015)
Very spacious and in an excellant location for the town and tourist attractions of the area- the cottage was well equiped and spotlessly clean Margaret from Manchester (04 September 2015)
This property is not suitable for the elderly or people with disabilities, due to the stairs. I'd also be wary if you have young children as there are steep stones steps to the garden and the handrail is unsafe!. the cottage is pleasant enough and clean, nice views, matlock is a lovely area, we had a welcome box of chocs on arrival but no tea coffee or milk had been provided for a well needed cuppa, we found the beds hard and the sofas were not ideal for comfort, there were no numbers on the oven controls, which made things difficult! it's a noisy place due to wooden floors in every room everything echos through the house, which may cause some people problems. . . unfortunately due to myself using a walking stick for disabilities, (i did express my concerns to the owners and they felt sure I would cope) I found it difficult ( even with help) and by monday had to admit defeat the stairs were too much for me due to the turn and narrowing of the stairs, couldn't get to the garden either due to stone steps and unsafe handrail, therefore I had no choice but to leave my daughter took me home on the tuesday, and then they all continued the holiday without me :( Sharen from Manchester (21 August 2015)
The cottage was dirty and didn't look as if it had been cleaned in a long time. The curtains in the small bedroom were hanging off the window and the clothes rail in the attic room was broken. The bathroom needed a good clean to remove the black from the sink and shower cubicle. The location wasn't good and was difficult to access as its on a very small road almost an alleyway with cars parked on one side. We certainly didn't enjoy our stay and will not be returning. Lorraine from Chesham (17 July 2015)
Good location for the town, however, the driveway and road to the cottage are tiny, making it very difficult for two cars to manoeuvre. . cleanliness left a lot to be desired..the oven was not clean and the symbols had long worn away. Whilst staying at the cottage, we found out that this had been complained about before. . the general finish of the property doesn't really warrant the top asking price..furniture is very basic and appears to be either cheap or old and why are there no toilet roll holders?! bar one which is stuck to the shower. . the garden is not secure for small or curious dogs. . on the plus side, the property is a good size for 4 adults. Customer 29 (26 June 2015)
Excellent property in a good location for the dales and chatsworth. Margaret from London (01 June 2015)
Excellent location really close to a host ofbrilliant options for days out. Well situated cottage within the town and well equipped. A larger car may struggle with parking. Emily from Yarm (22 May 2015)
We had a fabulous time at the old dairy. Close enough to matlock to access everything you need super easy and on it's own quiet street so passing traffic (foot or car) was a minimum. Amazing views of matlock too. it has all the ameneties you need for a family break and would definitely recommend it to others too. Confirmed Guest (27 March 2015)
The property was ideally located, was very homely and practical for 2 children and a dog. Ruth from Burton On Trent (16 March 2015)
The only thing that let the cottage down was the cooker ! [worn out dials and no timer] Confirmed Guest (06 March 2015)
We had a wonderful family get together. Great location. Malcolm from Dronfield, Derbyshire (23 February 2015)
Very good location - in quiet part of the lovely town of matlock. Directions to property could be improved - why not use really obvious landmarks e.g. The station, ist set of lights?. property spacious and clean. Plenty of kitchen equipment and furniture for 7 people. Comfy beds.could have done with chair/s in each bedroom for putting clothes overnight. Central heating effective. Also markings on oven had worn away so cooking anything involved some guesswork! . flush button on toilet in main bathroom broken so was difficult to flush. Most doors were heavy fire doors so tricky for children - 3 yr old couldn't open/close them, 7 yr old trapped her fingers in them! also had to jam living area door open in evening to be able to listen out for children asleep. How necessary are they?. parking, or rather, getting out of parking space outside property was difficult at times as the lane outside is narrow and others use it for parking opposite property. . small niggles, most of which could easily be sorted. We enjoyed our short holiday there. Pete from Wirral (20 February 2015)
A lovely townhouse with a great view across matlock. Ideal for large families, or large groups. Kids loved the 4 floors to explore. Handy for exploring the peak district, visiting matlock bath, heights of abraham, gullivers & 40 mins from alton towers. Dan from Kilmarnock (17 October 2014)
The road to the house very narrow with getting parked takes some getting used to .but we enjoyed our stay there Carol from Canterbury (26 September 2014)
We had a lovely family holiday here for my father-in-law's 60th birthday - 6 adults and 2 babies stayed here. . overall we were all incredibly pleased with this property. . there were just a few niggly issues we had to deal with:. 1. Noise within the house - with hard floors throughout and 4 floors connected by 1 main stairwell, noise carries incredibly well (badly?) in the house. This was a bit of an issue with the babies. 2. The oven is so clean the dial labels have been scrubbed off and so - with no manual to refer to - it was a bit of a guessing game to use. 3. As many others have stated, parking was a worry. With so many of us, we had 3 full cars to park - we did manage, but might not have if anyone had parked in the other property's drive. Further, my father-in-law's car would only fit up the road from one direction (it is so narrow at one end our little fiesta barely fit). 4. Lastly, and this is more about matlock/the location than it is the property itself - there was a distinct lack of good/nice pubs within the town. We had to venture out of the town to find some (matlock bath was particularly nice). but there are a plethora of lovely little cafes and a fantastic park, which we visited almost every day, and we also spent a great day at chatsworth. Kristin from Birmingham (19 September 2014)
Great location for proximity to heights of abraham, supermarket and centre of matlock. unfortunately a nearby pub sometimes made it difficult to sleep at night (but we do like the window open!) we hardly had to use our car at all which was a first for us on holiday. the house is well equipped, I can't think of anything we missed, apart, from the teenagers point of view, wi-fi. if you are planning to stay here there is only room for 2 cars - on road parking can be difficult - but we managed to get our car in and out of the garage ok. Jemma from Ipswich (29 August 2014)
It was a nice place. Few things broken, eg the only shower. Suited our needs. Confirmed Purchaser (15 August 2014)
Did not meet 4 star expectations. access very difficult for a house for 7 means you are going to have a reasonable size car. Parking on road made it very difficult to get in. Lucky that neighbours didn't have car most of week. Tumble dryer would be useful. Shower tiny and only 1 for 7 would be awkward. don't want to appear too negative as had a nice week but comments intended to improve for others. Ian from Ipswich (08 August 2014)
The cottage was in an excellent location although the parking was a nightmare, we couldn't park in the drive and the access lane was so busy,it was stressful parking each time. The cottage itself was lovely but not really suitable for elderly people due to the stairs. we had booked a different cottage but this was take off your books just before out holiday so we were left with limited choice for a replacement. the steps to the garden were precarious due to the overgrown bushes and the loose fence. Also the oven did not work unfortunately. The cottage iself was very sunny and welcoming. Confirmed Purchaser from The Cottage Itself Was Lovely But Not Really Suita (14 July 2014)
Had a lovely holiday in a well equipped cottage. Caroline from Peterborough (27 June 2014)
Super location for access to town. Good views. Garage suited our needs perfectly. Bit short on wardrobe space. Would use again. Clive from Scarborough (16 May 2014)
A very successful holiday. Centrally located, 5 minute walk to sainsburys and town centre, 20 mins from lots of places of interest. Unfortunately parking was an issue as the driveway was continually blocked and wifi only available from a hotspot in town and that didn't work well. Customer 46 from Banks (25 April 2014)
Everything was fine apart from the parking which is a major issue. The owners have got a sign up asking people not to block the access, but it is often ignored. We did have a massive car though, even so the access road is difficult for even small cars. Cottage was nice and walking distance to all the amenities. Nerys from Orkney (04 April 2014)
Lovely cottage, very well equipped kitchen. It was clean and tidy on arrival. Visited some lovely places, matlock bath is beautiful and only 10 mins drive away. My only complaint is the parking at the cottage, lane is incredibly narrow and when other cars were parked opposite the drive we really struggled to get our car in and out. Would go back to this area and cottage again! Gemma from Durham (21 February 2014)
The old dairy is a well-designed house in a lovely location overlooking matlock.it is good value for money and the owner is accessible and responds promptly to any concerns. The views from the windows are excellent. The property is well furnished and the rooms are of a good standard. Sainsbury's supermarket and the town are just a few minutes walk away. The only issue for us was the fairly narrow lane and the tight turning to the parking area. If cars are parked in the lane opposite the house (which they shouldn't be) parking can be tricky. But overall, our score for this property would be high. We were there for christmas and the owners provided a welcome pack of goodies and a christmas tree. Compared to other similar holiday lets we consider this property very well priced. Chris from Suffolk (28 December 2013)
We had a lovely stay and the house was perfect for all our needs. comfy and warm bedrooms, clean and well equipped kitchen, cosy sitting room all welcomed us on our arrival. Its location, close to sainsbury's and the railway station, but away from traffic, and with easy access to chatsworth and its christmas market made it an ideal spot. We had a fascinating walk around matlock and were able to see the house from across the valley. We would love to visit the old dairy again and would recommend it to friends and family. Mary from Maldon (25 November 2013)
Lovely property. We would defiantly stay again. Kate from Burton On Trent (18 November 2013)
Enjoyed the accomodation apart from the oven taking so long to warm up. Wouldnt like to think I was cooking a chicken!. parking outside on a steep drive but lack of turning space due to cars parked opposite. Betty from Meynell (01 November 2013)
The house is lovely and very comfortable but there is only one shower and this is not made clear in the information. it is up a very narrow lane with cars parked along one side so if there are more than two cars one car must be parked in the lane. Pauline from Tamworth (14 October 2013)
We had a great week. The location was fantastic very central although parking could be a little tricky as on a steep hill. House was clean and comfortable although being a new build it does have the disadvantage that noise travels. Owners were very helpful and we would go back again. Chrisi from Newcastle (16 August 2013)
Had a wonderful holiday property had everything stated very clean and comfortable +. good location Confirmed Purchaser from Witham (02 August 2013)
Near town centre with easy access to lovely local walks. Small steep garden, fine for barbecues and sitting out in. Enough garden furniture for everyone to sit out. Roomy living area. Lovely views. Kitchen small but well equipped. Nice neighbours with very entertaining dogs. Maria from St Albans (15 Jul 2013)
Fabulous location, so close to all amenities. The property had everything we could possibly want, very comfortable and spacious for the 7 of us. Liz from South Wales (31 May 2013)
Had everything you could need in a holiday let. Very central to the town and main roads. Pauline from Hornchurch (13 May 2013)
The accomodation was clean, it was as described, and beatuifully located. Very helpful proprietors Helen from Nottingham (22 February 2013)
Close to town centre Michael from Yorkshire (15 October 2012)
Close to town centre. Customer 61 (October 2012)
Location was great. House was as described on the website. Plenty of space for 6 adults. Had a really lovely stay. Customer 62 (October 2012)
The location and the responsiveness of the owners Carole from Hinckley (17 September 2012)
Good views over the town Julie from Broadstairs (07 September 2012)
The location and the responsiveness of the owners. Customer 65 (September 2012)
Good views over the town. Customer 66 (September 2012)
2nd visit to this property. Lovely accommodation and situated in very convenient location for the peak district. Perfect walking distance to Wetherspoons for evening meals/sunday lunch but plenty of other restaurants in the area. Only criticism is that maybe a pint a milk/sachets tea/coffee/sugar would be nice for late arrivals. Customer 67 (November 2011)
This is in a great town centre location, perfect if you have younger kids because you are close to shops / restaurants etc. It was a bargain too. It is a very modern house, quite thin walls etc, not the cosy cottage some people are after, but we found it had everything we needed, and everything was clean and working. Customer 68 (November 2011)
Charming location and lovely home. Very pleased with our accommodation and holiday overall in Matlock. Customer 69 (August 2011)
This spotlessly clean and comfortable house was the best equipped holiday cottage we have ever stayed in. Everything you could possibly think of was there, even down to tablets for the washing machine and dishwasher. We made good use of all the picnic equipment and beach toys as the weather couldnt have been better. The 2 gardens at the property (there is a hidden one!) are lovely too. We had a very relaxing stay ay Sunnyside and would definitely return to this property if we come to Ryde again. Customer 70 (April 2011)
Very convenient location for the centre of Matlock. Well-equipped and comfortable, but garden steeper than we were expecting! Customer 71 (April 2011)
Great location and well equipped. Customer 72 (February 2011)
Great layout, good sized bedrooms, three toilets on different floors really useful for party of five. Everything we needed provided. Great location in middle of Matlock, wonderful countryside. Customer 73 (December 2010)
The property was ideal for our requirements. Well stocked and in a great location. The owners also kindly provided a Christmas tree, chocolates and bucks fizz. Customer 74 (December 2010)
Accommodation in excellent location for Peak District, and just far enough back from main town so no noise, was very peaceful and relaxing. Customer 75 (November 2010)
Good location, great views. Customer 76 (October 2010)
We had a lovely holiday in this house, very clean and a ideal place to stay within easy reach of local attractions. Customer 77 (September 2010)
Comfortable and conveniently located for walking and sightseeing. Customer 78 (August 2010)
Easy access to pubs and restaurants, very good location, a few little problems but nothing major. Customer 79 (May 2010)
Ideal location and suitable for five so we had separate beds! Customer 80 (April 2010)
It was of a high standard, had everything we needed, was clean and modern. Customer 81 (October 2009)
The people of Matlock seem to take a pride in themselves and their town. There seemed little signs of vandalism and it makes a good base for touring the area.. The situation of the house up on the valley side giving an all around view of the town of Matlock and Riber Castle dominating the heights. Customer 82 (September 2009)
Clean with all essential items available. Very friendly owner and made to feel welcome. Customer 83 (August 2009)
Very helpful owner, very pleasant accommodation and spectacular views. Very conveniently positioned and walk to Matlock Bath and back had something for everyone, children and adults all very happy. Customer 84 (March 2009)
Property in an excellent central location to the town of Matlock and to amenities. Would definitely visit again. Customer 85 (March 2009)
The web site was easy to use and the choices of ways to search for property was appreciated it saved me lots of time because I knew the dates and size of accommodation required, all I needed was to know what was available on those dates. The cottage was well described and lived up to expectations. When I did call the your office with a query I received first class service. I will recommend you to friends and use you again. Customer 86 (November 2008)
Cottage very clean and spacious however access road is very narrow and parking for car is on a steep driveway which is very difficult to get on or off if cars park in road directly opposite. June2 012. Customer 87
