We have stayed here many times now and,as ever,we had a lovely family holiday.the house is not grand or "state of the art" but is well placed for a varied, enjoyable family time. The property needs a little refurbishment e.g.kitchen floor covering but above all needs a bathroom window that will open - please !!!!)¥ Dorothy from Kent (05 August 2017)
Lovely large house but very tired. The kitchen is large but not suitable if cooking for more than 2 people. Lack of work tops and small cooker. All in all there are better houses in the area for the price paid. Derek from Harleston (24 June 2017)
The property is a bit dated - particularly the kitchen - and would benefit hugely from a little money being spent on it, but all in all offers space and a quiet location, ideal for a relaxing holiday as long as you don't have high expectations in terms of top-end facilities. Sarah from Milton Keynes (27 May 2017)
In spite of the house being very large it had a nice homely feel, clean comfortable,a home from home, the bottles of wine and the flowers in the hall where very nice touch, nice and quiet, and relaxing,we have stayed here before and would probably stay again. Terry from Rye (13 May 2017)
Great property, great location. Website photos do not do it justice - really grand feel to the place and super peaceful Jim from Haversham (15 April 2017)
We loved the peace of the old butlers house - its location is super and we enjoyed being able to walk down into cley. Joanna from Norwich (21 November 2016)
Everything great and helpful caretakers Anita from Essex (14 November 2016)
Great house, very spacious, fantastic location and lovely views. Cley high street only a minutes walk away, 3 good pubs within walking distance and an excellent deli in the village. We would definitely recommend this house and hope to come back. Jane from Norwich (01 November 2016)
We really enjoyed our stay at the old butler's house. It served as an ideal base for visiting places of interest in norfolk. Our week coincided with the 40s weekend in nearby sheringham and holt - which was an added bonus. We found the house clean and comfortable and enjoyed the peaceful setting of the property. There was ample private parking and some great walks right on the doorstep. Cookies crab shop and tea rooms just along the coast road from cley towards cromer proved to be well worth the visit. . the property is old (like the name implies) so we were not expecting some slick modern building or accommodation. We noted in the comments book that many visitors returned numerous times. We would be happy to stay at the old butler's house again. Thank you. Peter and jackie mc Peter And Jackie from Tansley, Nr Matlock, Derbyshire. (24 September 2016)
The old butlers house was spacious, with great sized bedrooms, a large lounge (2 sofas and 2 arm chairs), a separate dining room and good sized kitchen (although we opted to eat in the dining room as it seats more people). it is right in the heart of cley so you can easily walk to the shops, out to the beach or to the park if you have children. . . it's a bit like going back in time but in comfort! the picture truly depicts what you get - i.e. A large building with a decent sized garden. . . we definitely want to book for next summer. Rebecca from Cambridge (27 August 2016)
We have been here many times and always have a wonderful family holiday.the property has a wonderful location, away from the road and space to move around in.it has benefitted from some refurbishment. My main grumble is that cooking facilities are erratic and inadequate when feeding 7 Dorothy from Kent (06 August 2016)
Although fairly fully equipped the kitchen was tired and not attractive to use. the tv had a problem with the on/off switch which often would not work. . overall, although with a large amount of space the property lacked a warm or comfortable feel about it. Roger from Liss, Hants (23 July 2016)
The house is basically lovely and fairly well-equipped. However, we had great trouble with the television signal, which ceased to work on the first day, so would advise visitors to take their laptops etc. As the wi-fi is good. . . the outdoor equipment was left dirty and uncared for, but was adequate apart from a very sloping table. The garden was a disappointment; a scruffy patch of grass and wire fencing behind a patch of bare earth was not what had appeared on the website photographs. Building works in the adjoining part of the house (the hall) were a little disturbing. . however, with minor improvements inside and a more realistic impression from the website of the actual garden facilities available to those staying, this cottage could make a good base for a family holiday. Those with dogs and young children should be aware that the garden is not secure. Jennifer from Newmarket (11 June 2016)
Good location for cley and surrounding area. Big space inside rooms hence extra heating costs a consideration. As per other guest reviews it is in keeping with old houses in terms of furniture, fittings etc . part of much bigger house which is undergoing refurbishment so had intrusive at times building noise. Recent gardening work means good sized garden space is not secure for dogs. Confirmed Guest from As Per Other Guest Reviews It Is In Keeping With O (04 June 2016)
Lovely location for family and dog. close to the sea and amenities. loved the space and size of rooms, the kitchen and dining room is a tad small. Antonia from Tetbury (14 December 2015)
A fantastic place, unlike any other we have stayed at. We already knew the area well, and enjoyed all the usual fabulous walks. John from Grays (04 December 2015)
Extremely large house, very clean, well appointed in wonderful location, cley and surrounding country side, Terry from Rye East Sussex (03 October 2015)
We do a lot of "holiday cottages". this has great potential but soft furnishings were very poor and worn. bedding old and tired. cushions flat. garden to house was neglected and lawn not cut. tv reception poor. standard of cleanliness was good. excellent views from the end bedroom and in a great location. well equipped kitchen with washing machine and tumble dryer. Did not think that it was value for the money and expected the soft furnishings to be better. The owner needs to replace some items. noted in the comments book that other visitors have mentioned this before but has not been heeded. Sorry. a potentially wonderful property that needs more love. hope the owner can afford to do it. Debbie from Beverley (07 September 2015)
Sheltered garden perfect for grandchildren Heather from London (22 August 2015)
We have stayed here approx. 10 times now and it suits our family - the children love it!!they enjoy the freedom of the house and garden. We have commented over the years (like others)about the dreaded shower and the "tiredness" of some of the furniture and furnishings . some things could be improved without much expenditure e.g. Replacing the grubby oilcloth on the kitchen table and the use of a more powerful and effective vacuum cleaner. We don't have a dog and are sensitive to the lingering canine smell and hairs !. however, if it was "posher" and more grand it would cost more and I doubt if we would all be as relaxed and happy. A fantastic location in a beautiful county . would we stay again ? we have already booked for 2016 - need I say more ? Dorothy (01 August 2015)
Had a lovely time, property perfectly situated. some of the decor is a little dated but charming - not full of super modern fixtures but everything worked and the property was very clean. many thanks to key holder who made handover very convenient for us. Teresa from Northampton (17 May 2015)
This is a great holiday home. The location is perfect, near the sea and cafes with great things to do in the area especially if you and your family like beaches, bird watching, walking and just having fun. . . the house is spacious and well equipped. The garden good for sitting in, games or playing hide and seek. Pam from London (11 April 2015)
Very good Customer 23 from Braintree (28 December 2014)
We really enjoyed our family break in the old butlers house. The rooms are a good size and with plenty of space for the family to be together or to spread-out to do their own thing. Good location for the north norfolk coast with places of interest within easy reach. Vicki from Hampshire (09 November 2014)
Very enjoyable and quiet, relaxing location, glad we were unable to bring guide dog with us as grounds were a little too open. House was well equipped and furnished and household supplies were appreciated (not normally included).very secluded retreat, ideal for walking and bird/wildlife observation. Confirmed Purchaser (11 October 2014)
A great place in a lovely setting. Everything you could ever need is here. Still waiting for the old butler to turn up !! Michael from Basingstoke (27 September 2014)
The bathroom is badly in need of updating and really needs either an en suite or another shower room installed. . entrance needs some kind of sensor light. . location excellent John from Colchester (20 September 2014)
Lovely big old house, plenty of room, good car parking space, very well equipped, shower could do with some attention and glad it was warm as there is a charge of £7.50 a day for heating.we took 5 grandchildren and they loved it,visited wells and thursford and went on a seal trip, a good holiday Margaret from Wakefield (30 August 2014)
Excellent location and very comfortable house Paul from Wendover (23 August 2014)
Wonderful location - wonderful experience to stay in such an unspoilt home. Margaret from Diss/Norfolk (19 July 2014)
Very comfortable house in a lovely location Lesley from W Sussex (14 June 2014)
Shared the house with elderly in laws. The high ceiling and large rooms were impressive,as was the garden. The house has the ambience of a bye gone era, according to the in laws. Highly recommended. Just one other thing, there is little or no street lighting in cley. John from Huddersfield (07 June 2014)
Lovely house, great location borne out by the number of return visits, our third time Colin from Tamworth (19 April 2014)
We have stayed at this house for the last 7 christmas's and things are getting a bit worn out which need replacing. We left a note for the cleaner to consider asking the owner if she would sort them out. It would not take much general improvements to make this house 10 out of 10 Michael from Braintree (21 December 2013)
We had a brilliant holiday, would definitely go again thank you . Josephine from Billericay Essex (14 September 2013)
A fantastic place to stay with a wonderful garden. We hope to be back! Tom from London (31 August 2013)
Lovely characterful property. Light and spacious and very well-equipped - it had everything we needed during our stay. Great location in cley village, and easy access to many places of interest such as wells, sheringham and burnham market. Deborah from Oxford (16 February 2013)
I think the property details did not give justice to the magnificence of the Old Butlers House. The height of the rooms was amazing as was the location. The house is definitely old fashioned but this is not a negative in this property. We would have liked to know more about its history. Customer 38 (October 2012)
If you are looking for old-fashioned grandeur then this is the property for you. This cottage, in this village, in this location was as near perfect as you could get. Customer 39 (October 2012)
Excellent location, lovely village Sue from Suffolk (18 August 2012)
Plenty of room to move around and very comfortable nice garden. And good parking area. Bernard from South Woodham Ferrers (04 August 2012)
Spacious, well appointed but doesn’t feel like a hotel. Cley is the perfect location for lovers of East Anglian countryside and walks. The local Deli MUST be visited. You can spend a weekend here without even getting in a car. Customer 42 (February 2012)
Beautifully spacious house, just right for our family of 5 and dog. Beautifully furnished and well equipped, relaxing time was had by all. Customer 43 (January 2012)
A wonderful house and idyllic location - we had a fantastic time. Cley-next-the-Sea has lovely shops, including a brilliant deli. The house has a great kitchen and we enjoyed making lots of meals as a family - courtsey of a Tesco delivery van. We went in November and enjoyed lots of walks on the nearby beaches. A great long weekend! Customer 44 (November 2011)
The Old Butler’s House is a fascinating place to stay. Full of character and charm. The walled garden is a delight and the surrounding village of Cley is very picturesque. A real get-away-from-it-all holiday. Felbrigg Hall and Blickling Hall make wonderful visits as does a calm evening walk down to the sea along the coastal path. The nearby seaside towns of Wells-next-the-sea and Sheringham offer enjoyment for all. Holkham beach is a must and you can walk along it to Wells with the dogs and return via the pine forest paths. A wonderful holiday destination. Customer 45 (July 2011)
The location of the property was excellent. This was confirmed by the low fuel consumption during our stay. The property contained many interesting features. Customer 46 (May 2011)
This property was very spacious and comfortable - well equipped in a wonderful village location. Made a superb and easy holiday for three generations of our family including a young baby. Couldn’t have been better. Customer 47 (April 2011)
Spacious house in a very quiet location. Lovely views. Very well equipped house. Customer 48 (October 2010)
Plenty of character, a comfortable sameness for the last few visits. Customer 49 (October 2010)
