We have had a very relaxing week at the cart lodge. after a particularly difficult past few weeks it was lovely to arrive and have everything there ready for us. The welcome was warm and friendly and the ''goodies" provided on our arrival were very welcome. The property is situated in a very lovely area within reach of many of the south coast's popular spots. a great little property!!
Mark from Mansfield, Nottinghamshire (14 July 2017)

Lovely views and very pleasant surroundings (friendly sheep). we took a bbq dinner on the sunny patio enjoying the quiet rolling scenery. . excellent location- 15 minutes to bexhill, slightly further to eastbourne. I got phone reception and 4g. . however, I was very disappointed with the internal condition of property- dusty, cobwebs, crumbs and at times dirty (kitchen drawers and cupboards, floors, rugs). if you are looking for clean lines and modern this cottage is not for you. also, it was perhaps not the best choice for us- we have a small very active child- no garden or space large enough for playing. . having said that, the owners are helpful and friendly and leave you alone. Nice touches upon arrival (food and drink) and the cottage is equipped with all you would need (no iron though!). clean beds and towels.
Phil from London (02 June 2017)

We had a good holiday, the area was lovely. the cart lodge was in a wonderful quiet location with good walks straight from the front door. internally it was not as well equipped as other places I have stayed in and the overall impression was of it being "a bit tired." however, I would still be happy to recommend it to a friend.
Barbara from Carnforth (05 May 2017)

We enjoyed our mini break very much at cart lodge.the location was lovely, the cottage excellent & the extra treats much appreciated.we would recommend staying here.
Je from Somerset (23 September 2016)

The cart lodge is a compact cottage in a tranquil situation. Sheep outside the front door with a picnic table that looks onto the fields. the owners give a warm welcome and are close by to give advice if needed but do not overlook the cottage. It has two bedrooms - the twin with ensuite. The cottage and area are ideal for small families and older people wanting a quiet break. Teenagers might like somewhere with more going on particularly as there in no internet
Ob from Newport South Wales (02 September 2016)

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in beautiful surroundings with the lovely sheep outside our lodge. the owners were very helpful and friendly. the goodies on arrival were very much appreciated and all the home from home touches. we had a very relaxing time.
Samantha from Cambridge (26 August 2016)

This was our first holiday in this area and we were not disappointed. The accommodation was comfortable and an ideal base for days out, whether to the seaside, or places with historic interest such as battle and bodiam castle. The views from the cottage are superb and the patio was an ideal way to relax and enjoy them and the peaceful surroundings. We would certainly consider repeating the experience.
Alwyn from Reading (19 August 2016)

Beautifully converted to make a really cosy cottage. Can imagine staying here in winter but was lovely enjoying summer evenings on the patio here looking out over the rolling hills whilst the sheep grazed around us. The cottage was very well equiped - even tea towels and washing up liquid was provided.
Rachel from Alton (05 August 2016)

This is a lovely property in a great location. The attention to detail by the owners is superb. We had a very relaxing week and can't wait to return.
Susan from Bingley (09 June 2016)

A wonderful place to stay in the countryside, great location great owners and very well equipped cottage. Loved it. Ps. On our return home we had a call from the lovely owner to say we had left 2 items. These were returned to us in next post. Very kind. Robert jan,ron and doris
Janet from Norwich (16 May 2016)

Nice cottage, perfect location and starting point to discover the area.
Confirmed Guest (13 May 2016)

Very nice converted cart barn with 2 beds & 2 en-suites, pleasant views over surrounding fields populated with sheep (& lambs when we visited) from the working farm. Owners very friendly & more than willing to share suggestions for days out, places to eat (at all different budgets) etc.
Roger from Reading (31 March 2016)

We all loved this cottage and nina and terry who run it. The perfect place to stay if exploring the 1066 area. The kids loved it and were very comfortable, the facilities were spot on.
Richard from Twickenham (15 February 2016)

Happy bright l shaped house, with quiet views of the sheep. Time to think.
Juliet from Lewisham, Se London (25 September 2015)

Lovely compact cottage with sheep close to the door. Very friendly welcome. Lovely quiet location
Ole from Caerloen (28 August 2015)

Lovely hosts, so friendly and helpful with anything. set in lovely place very private. Opened to lots of fields for walks and kids could run for miles. Sheep added bonus for kids too! they loved it. Couldn't have been happier.
Samuel from London (14 August 2015)

Space very limited in lounge and kitchen areas. Lacking information about applainces , some are not working properly, some light bulbs are not working. Owners friendly and helpful.
Rose from London (12 June 2015)

A very comfortable cottage run by helpful and friendly owners. Location is good for visiting lots of places in the area. We really enjoyed it.
Confirmed Guest (22 May 2015)

Friendly reception from owner and generous gift of fruit, milk, tea and biscuits. Nice and peaceful location and good base for visiting south coast. . ideal for a short stay.
Martin from Small Village (27 February 2015)

Very well equipped in kitchen, bedrooms and bathrooms. Everything we needed including wine, fruit & biscuits!!!.
Heather from Nottingham (24 October 2014)

Lovely cottage, fantastic and friendly couple who own cottage . great location we had a great week
Jackie from Fife (03 October 2014)

Excellent stay at this lovely lodge. A warm welcome from terry the owner. Sheep and chickens come right up to the fence of this property and are highly entertaining. The lodge itself has everything you need. Lots of little extras make all the difference.
Susan from Bristol (29 August 2014)

Very comfortable,à bit like home from home.terry and nina were brilliant and made us feel like part of their family, not guests.we would have no hesitation going three again
David from Chipping Norton (22 August 2014)

We had a wonderful holiday in the cart lodge! the owners are very friendly and welcoming, the service is perfect and our kids just loved the animals close by! we were most lucky concerning the weather and happily explored a good part of the south east. The house is most comfortable, the view over the soft green english hills is spectacular - especially at dawn!
Ulrike from Magdeburg/Germany (08 August 2014)

The owners are very friendly and helpful but on this occasion four adults were sharing this cottage and we feel it is more suitable for a family of two adults and two children. We were very fortunate that we had good weather but if this was not the case the cottage would have been rather small and cramped for four adults. the outside was lovely to sit and am sure children would appreciate the sheep and chickens.
Brian from Haverhill (25 July 2014)

For our particular circumstances property absolutely ideal. Despite windy and wet weather plenty of eating out, great location, sheep eating out of hand, what more could we want?
Ray from Laindon (12 May 2014)

Lovely location, helpful and friendly owners,; very well equipped cottage. perhaps mattress of double bed could be a bit firmer? would always return. tv a little high when viewing from the sofa as high up on the wall.
Tatiana from London (11 April 2014)

A nice location friendly owners a shame it wasn't as clean as it should have been
Jean (04 October 2013)

One of the best holidays ever! the hosts were excellent and so friendly. Our stay was most comfortable and we had easy access to all the places of interest. We will definitely return in the near future. . extra little touches such as a vase of flowers and a gift of farm eggs were much appreciated. . lovely to be surrounded by sheep and chickens.
Jamal from Leicester (31 May 2013)

Very good
Confirmed Purchaser (27 May 2013)

Landlady who made you feel welcome but left you to do your own thing. Lovely to be surrounded by sheep and chickens
Confirmed Purchaser (23 February 2013)

Great outlook - would have been lovely to sit outside in the summer. sheep and chickens just outside door. Very friendly and helpful owners. Nice touches - welcome pack, including fruit and some daffs!
Val from London (12 February 2013)

Comfortable, warm and well equipped. lovely welcome package (wine, home-made mince pies, chocolates) and very helpful owner.
Peter from Bromley (27 December 2012)

Lovely location - owners, sheep and chickens very friendly.
Wendy from East Grinstead (21 September 2012)

A warm and comfy cottage, very well equipped.
Customer 35 (September 2012)

The cottage is very comfortable and a quiet location. The owner is very pleasant and helpful, providing us with an excellent supply of "start off" provisions. A dishwasher would have been welcome!!!
Customer 36 (September 2012)

The cottage was well equipped and very clean. as soon as we arrived the owner came to greet us and show us the cottage. it was spacious and well presented. location, for us, was good. Near enough to the coast on a sunny day and with lots of very interesting national trust properties in the surrounding area.
Jane from Birmingham (31 August 2012)

Location excellent. looking out over fields of sheep, chickens amazing. good choice of games, books, tv channels. welcome pack a lovely touch.
Deborah from Sittingbourne (24 August 2012)

Cart lodge was lovely, so peaceful with no passing cars as located down a private lane. Sheep creating the only noise outside! 2 bathrooms was useful. The welcoming pack which included wine, lager, milk, crisps went down well.
Peter from Cheltenham (17 August 2012)

Lovely location, isolated but easy to get to major attractions. Nicely furnished.
Robert from Cambridge (03 August 2012)

Homely and well stocked. great to have ensuite to both bedrooms.
Alan from Gosport (06 July 2012)

We found the cottage very well equipped. A very good selection of kitchen utensils. The double bedroom was good but the twin bedded room was partcularly small with very little space for clothes. The lounge was also comfortable.
Customer 42 (July 2012)

Great views, close to the animals (who were very friendly), lovely couple who owned/let the property, easy to find, great walks across the fields. Lovely and quiet
Janette from London (14 May 2012)

Friendly greeting on arrival, liked the little personal touches, like milk, biscuits, wine. The fact that there were two on suit bathrooms this was very useful to our visit. Lots of coat hangers and bath towels, everything you could have wanted. Lovely area outside to sit, with the company of the sheep and hens. Would definitley recommend this property.
Customer 44 (May 2012)

The holiday met our criteria in full; a quiet, cosy place to quietly bring in the new year and walks directly from the cottage. Owners very friendly and welcoming. Including gas/elec in the overall cost was very good given the time of year.
Customer 45 (December 2011)

Charming cottage, in super location to access both the seaside and the many historic sites and beautiful gardens in the area. There were so many places to visit we found it hard to choose. Idyllic rural setting: the cottage has its own fenced patio area beyond which are fields and we very much enjoyed watching the small flock of sheep just yards from the door. Very friendly welcome from our hosts who assured us we should contact them if needed them but then left us in peace which is perfect. We found Cart Lodge and Hooe fairly easily but it is an area of country lanes and the purchase of a large scale map facilitated our getting about considerably.
Customer 46 (October 2011)

The cottage was wonderful. All the extras you need and more, the welcoming hamper is a very special touch. Thank you to the owners, who were also very welcoming. The area is lovely with the sheep, rabbits, squirrels for company. Very comfortable beds, nice bathrooms and shower, and well fitted out kitchen. Excellent.
Customer 47 (October 2011)

Fantastic accommodation in a peaceful location. Very cosy and well equipped. Owners were on hand should you need them and the welcome pack was a nice touch. Would recommend to others.
Customer 48 (October 2011)

Very quiet cottage. Peaceful location. Owners very friendly.
Customer 49 (August 2011)

Excellent location for exploring 1066 country. Well equipped cottage and friendly owners! Quiet and peaceful with only sheep for company. Nice local pub - 20 mins walk.
Customer 50 (July 2011)

Good location for sightseeing. Owners very friendly and helpful. Welcome pack very nice especially after a long journey. Property was comfortable, well furnished both inside and out (bbq, table, chairs, sunshade outdoors). Felt very much like home from home - we would consider staying there again and would certainly recommend it.
Customer 51 (July 2011)

Small property more suited to a family of four than a 2 sets of adults. Location wasn’t bad - pub not far and within good distances of Rye, Bexhill, Battle, Bodiam and Batemans.
Customer 52 (July 2011)

Very cosy and the welcome pack was a nice touch.
Customer 53 (February 2011)

In the design of the cottage the owners really thought about both the internal and external layout as the cottage. Internally it worked very well, externally the cottage looked out across the countryside and was extremely private as it wasn’t overlooked by anyone including the owners property.
Customer 54 (October 2010)

Second bedroom very small.
Customer 55 (September 2010)

The location was ideal for exploring the south east.
Customer 56 (August 2010)

The Cart Lodge is a lovely cottage, very spacious and more than adequate for a family of four. It is set on a working farm with just sheep and a sheepdog for company which the children loved. The owners of the lodge gave us some great information about the local area and left us alone to do as we please but were always on hand if required. We would recommend this cottage to anybody wishing to visit East Sussex.
Customer 57 (August 2010)

The property was very clean and well equipped, with many added extras - welcome pack of food and drink, toiletries etc. The bungalow was in a very quiet spot with only sheep for company. The owners were very friendly and helpful.
Customer 58 (August 2010)

The situation, the quiet, the nice owners (helpful and never intrusive).
Customer 59 (July 2010)

It was an added bonus having a paddock adjacent to the property. Eight sheep were resident and were great company over the week. The property is well placed to visit many excellent places in East Sussex. All appliances were new, well maintained and the furniture and beds were comfortable. The owners lived next door and were always very helpful. Wine fruit & biscuits awaited our arrival. If visiting East Sussex again we would try and rebook The Cart Lodge.
Customer 60 (June 2010)

We absolutely adored the cart lodge. It was so cosy, comfortable, and well equipped it was home from home! The owners are lovely, the location wonderful for visiting local places of interest. Could not ask for any more.
Customer 61 (February 2010)

Warm, cosy and fully equipped with a lovely surprise welcoming pack. Great countryside views with easy access to nearby towns, pubs, restaurants and places of interest.
Customer 62 (February 2010)

Great location and excellent furnishings.
Customer 63 (September 2009)

As is so true in life, it’s the little things that make all the difference and the owners have gone to so much trouble to ensure that your stay is a happy one - fresh milk in the fridge and a small bottle of wine (much appreciated!); flowers and a warm welcome from the owners who live adjacent to the property.
Customer 64 (September 2009)

A really lovely cottage ’home from home’. The owners were very helpful and friendly and we would love to go back again. Highly recommended.
Customer 65 (April 2009)
