Super, comfy and well equipped cottage. Easy drive to many attractions all over the island. Customer 1 from Essex (05 August 2017)
Loved the blacksmith shop, lovely cottage nice and spacious and very comfortable. Only negative was the shower needed updating or a better pump Anita from Chatham Kent (15 July 2017)
The cottage is in a great village and not far from a park! and a good location. They layout of the cottage is great. But it does need some serious tlc! Danielle from Northamptonshire (03 June 2017)
We enjoyed the holiday as far as we could get to other locations easy. The villagers were very friendly and mrs tester was very welcoming the weather was excellent. Linda from Norfolk (27 May 2017)
It was not a nice place. I paid extra for my dogs and it was not dog friendly ,there was no safe place for them to be outside. . the single bed was uncomfortable and the spring base rusty. The stairs to the loft room were dangerous rather than a bit steep. The cleaning left a lot to be desired . we left after 4 days having paid for a week.this is of course just my opinion and others might call it rustic and countryfied. I was truly elated to be back in my home village. Customer 5 from Bedforshire (12 May 2017)
Perfect. Confirmed Guest (20 October 2016)
Shower needs attention, replacing, low flow if warm. Use new pump to utilize tank hot water. Bath room towel heater not working, needed. Lots of room, comfortable, good location. Worth a visit. Confirmed Guest (15 October 2016)
Just simply great. very happy. You would not be disappointed. inside the cottage is lovely. Confirmed Guest from Southampton (23 September 2016)
The cottage was comfortable and pleasant. We had a very good stay. There is a convenience store and a pub nearby. The beach is further than advertised, but that is the only criticism I have. I would certainly stay there again. The cottage and the locality is quite dog friendly. Zahed from Pulborough (18 September 2016)
A comfortable and spacious holiday cottage with lots of character, and a warm and friendly welcome from the landlady. The village is charming, and in a central position for reaching most places on the island. Janet from Edinburgh, Scotland (10 September 2016)
Great base on the isle of wight, really cosy, quirky and homely cottage with everything you could need. Close enough to days out while also being in a quiet village. Equipped with all we needed, the garden room and library being of particular note. Paul from Bracknell (03 September 2016)
The blacksmiths cottage was just fantastic, the location was an easy base to travel from for the all beaches and attractions the people in the village were very nice and the owner was a lovely lady. . . the cottage was very spacious and equipped to a very good standard. . its in a nice quiet little village and local shops are just what you need for the basics. . . only down side was the local pub wasn't great (shame really) food wasn't brilliant and was a little expensive but the pub in whitwell village the white horse is only about 15 minutes away and was superb. . we would love to go back again with no hesitation thank you for a fantastic holiday Ian from Chatham, Kent (04 June 2016)
Lovely property. The garden room really great to sit in, nice bottle of wine to welcome you and mary the owner very nice to talk to. . I would recommend this property to anyone wanting to go to the iow. Keith from Keighley (28 May 2016)
Very impressive holiday cottage. all the amenities that you would reasonably expect in your own home. unique accommodation in many ways making a stay here memorable. Dai from Stratford Upon Avon (24 April 2016)
We had a really good time and the cottage was comfortable. The only draw back was regarding wifi which we were told that it is available on this property. It was explained that connection may or may not be there after we booked and paid for the week . it was originally advertised with wifi and we felt that we are misguided on that. Cottage required some detailed cleaning like cobwebs on most of the rooms and the sun room but everything else was perfect . location is excellent . it is quite near to the main attractions like needles. Lots of things to discover in small island. Saira from Sheffield (02 April 2016)
First thing about the cottage was that they said they were pet friendly, so I paid for our dog to join us. They're not!!! . . in the introduction email and in 4 different places in the cottage instructions it said not to leave our dog alone in the cottage. If I go on holiday with my dog, then there are times I want to leave it behind, ie if we're going to a museum, shopping, restaurant etc. If they don't want dogs - then easy, just say so & i'll find somewhere else to stay. . other annoying aspects of the cottage: . > shower is very weak. > smoke alarm is right in the kitchen, whenever you cooked anything on the grill or hob, it would go off - I just about managed to reach it to switch it off but anyone smaller the 5'9" and fit enough to climb on a chair would struggle. (never been a problem with other cottages). > knives are as blunt as anything - all very well providing a sharpener, but they were rubbish and being that blunt they become dangerous. > the bed was a double, but probably the smallest double i've slept in. > old food left in the freezer - I really don't want someone else pizza. > dishwasher wasn't worth the effort - had to redo by hand. > bedside cabinet was tiny & the light cord so tight you couldn't move the light around. > various hairs left from previous occupant in the wc & bathroom Graeme from London (26 March 2016)
Unbelievable value for money. The garden room is lovely and there is also a small garden at the back of the property which is lovely. I think this cottage is undersold...you will not be disappointed with your visit. So much charm and character and extra little touches from the owner makes you feel welcome. All round it was a great break. Sam from Northampton (18 December 2015)
The property was clean and comfortable. The furnishings were older than we normally find but was servicable, (apparently the whole island is like this). the hot water was too hot and energy could be saved by turning it down. . . the site and village was perfect. The weather was very good considering the time of year. Owen from Hampton (24 October 2015)
Excellent: the cottage was beautifully decorated and furnished, well equipped, and in a lovely position. the village was lovely, with some interesting buildings, and centrally placed on the island to make it easy to explore different areas. I would happily go there again, and it was good to meet the owner. Confirmed Guest (10 October 2015)
Fantastic cottage but furniture a bit dated shower could do with an upgrade. We would stay there again as very central for travelling. Shirley from Haverhill (12 September 2015)
Absolutely beautiful. One of the best if not the best we have stared in David from Walker (18 July 2015)
Loved the blacksmiths shop.loads of character and felt really homely.lovely location.will definitely be going back. Clare from Brighton (30 May 2015)
I would have moved in had it been for sale. Thank you so much for a wonderful holiday. We were blessed fantastic weather which made it even better. Janet from Cranleigh (11 April 2015)
We were a party of 3, grandparents with a 4 year old grand daughter. The room set up was ideal for us, as we didn't need to use the upstairs (except when playing hide and seek!) we had all the space and equipment we needed for our stay. the garden was lovely, as were the garden room and lounge. we will definitely come back again. Hilary from Southsea (30 March 2015)
Had a lovely 2wks here .dogs loved it to. Would definitely book the cottage again. Sandra from Ostuni Italy (14 March 2015)
This little cottage is an absolute delight! it was perfect for our weekend. We would consider staying here again, it's brilliantly located for the centre and west of the island and the east of the island is very easy to get to also. . the cottage is very well equipped and clean. It's not overly warm (we visited early january) but that was nothing a fire and a jumper didn't fix. . . our only criticism is that the shower isn't very powerful but there is a bath and there's plenty of hot water so it wasn't a major concern. Milly from Grantham (12 January 2015)
We absolutely loved the cottage! it had everything we could possibly have needed, with a well-equipped kitchen, fabulous library and plenty of games to keep a 12-, 10- and 8-year old occupied on a rainy day. It was so clean that, even though pets can stay there, our son did not suffer from his allergy to cats. The area is really beautiful, with lots of local walks. We would thoroughly recommend the blacksmith's shop and can't wait to go back. Jo from Milton Keynes (01 November 2014)
Delightful cottage in a beautiful area Patricia from Dengie Peninsula (03 October 2014)
Quietest location ever - fab!very spacious accommodation.overall all it was clean except for a few cobwebs but nothing important enough to spoil our holiday.our greyhound loved it too!!we were all sad to leave.very home from home.the owner is lovely. Kelly from Rainham,Kent (30 August 2014)
I knew the area well. I was taking my grand-daughter aged eleven to the island just by herself for the first time and it was a very successful holiday Julia from Bridge, Kent (02 August 2014)
A nice comfortable cottage with everything we needed, a bit hot in the upstairs bedroom but it was the hottest week of the year. Overall very good. Tim from Poole (26 July 2014)
This was a well appointed, pretty and spacious cottage in a quiet location. We had a lovely time here and would recommend it heartily. Mim from Hampshire (11 July 2014)
Comfortable cottage but needs a good makeover and a very good clean. equipment all there but oddments that didn't' match. Hilary from Grantham (28 June 2014)
Lovely warm little cottage in lovely location, but in real need of some tlc. The bed were clean and ok but the sofas are old and uncomfortable, kitchen and utensils are old and basic. The whole place could also do with a good clean, there were cobwebs, dust and grime in every room, the strirting boards were filthy and the garden room was run down and smelly. Might be as was the beginning of the season, hopefully the cottage will up to scratch for it's next visitors as it has the potential to be a really lovely holiday retreat. Kelly from Winchester (22 February 2014)
The blacksmith's shop is a perfect holiday home. everything there you could possibly want and more ! pleanty of local walks and easy to get to places of interest. we really enjoyed our stay and would stay again. Elaine from Binfield (10 February 2014)
Cottage is in a lovely quiet location, near a good pub and small shop, with plenty of parking right outside. Open fire and indoor "garden" very nice. However the cottage, though well equipped, needs a bit of updating; the sofa's are past their best and not very comfortable and the double bed seemed small for double. Though the cottage was generally clean, the basins in the bathroom and toilet needing cleaning with cream cleanser when we arrived. the cooker is very old. Unfortunately the storage heaters are bit of a problem in that we had to switch off the ones in the bedrooms (too hot at night) but then use fan heaters (provided) to warm the rooms up. The owner kindly left us wine, milk and fresh flowers. Overall a good holiday but the cottage would benefit from updating a bit to make it a bit more comfortable. Deborah from Brighton (04 January 2014)
The cottages was nice and located in a lovely village and was central to get around the island. The cottage could do with some updating especially the shower. It is also advertised as dog friendly which I wouldn't really call it, they are not allowed in the garden or to stay in the cottage alone. It was too dark to walk along the roads with them as it got dark around 4pm Jayne from Bradford (23 November 2013)
Very comfortable spacious accommodation with some thoughtful extras. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves Liz from Kenley, Surrey (30 October 2013)
Very nice cottage although the furniture is getting rather tired Customer 39 from Royston (04 October 2013)
Special garden room, friendly vilage , comfortable cottage , easy parking , good walks. Graham from Hitchin, Herts (13 Jul 2013)
Peaceful village and good position for visiting the rest of the island Joy from Southampton (11 May 2013)
Really well located on the island & perfect size for our family & dog - also very nice pub to walk to for dinner/lunch/drink (the crown)! Jane from Nr Chelmsford (06 April 2013)
Fantasic location for local supplies but also for the rest of the island. Enclosed garden was perfect for our 2 dogs. Flowers and bottle of wine on arrival was a lovely treat&a delightful walk to the local pub and shop. Angela from Staffordshire (09 November 2012)
Very nice cottage with everything you need, a lot of thought has gone into making your stay very pleasant including cleaning products, extra bedding, recycling facilities, fuel for the open fire and endless board games books and puzzles, there was even a carved pumpkin which I enjoyed lighting in the evenings. The overall feel is very spacious and a beautiful indoor garden room with a heater, ideal for breakfasting, will definitely stay here again. Customer 44 (November 2012)
Brilliant location on the village green, friendly local folk stopping to chat. House is spacious and with a very pleasant garden room in addition to a large living room and separate kitchen, we felt free to relax on our own as well as together, however the mood took us. Christine from Birchington Kent (28 July 2012)
Great location and accomodation - really liked the conservatory and upstairs bedroom Laurence from Romsey (29 April 2012)
The Blacksmiths is spacious , warm and well equipped and conveniently situated. Customer 47 (November 2011)
It’s a lovely cottage, based in a pretty village. There was a very handy local shop and the local pub served good food and was very welcoming. Customer 48 (July 2011)
This is a lovely cottage in a lovely location. The cottage itself was great for our young family with plenty of space, all the facilities you would expect and very comfortable. The garden room is like an indoor garden - really special. The village of Shorwell is quiet but has a real community feel, with eggs, jam and other local produce for sale at houses within a few hundred yards. The traditional local shop and post office sells great home made cakes. Pub okay. Customer 49 (May 2011)
Very comfortable and homely. Customer 50 (January 2011)
Good size accommodation, very good log fire and a wonderful bath (it’s huge). Customer 51 (December 2010)
The library and the garden room were lovely features. We enjoyed having an open fire as it was bitterly cold outside! Customer 52 (December 2010)
Exceptional hospitality of the owner... welcome pack including wine. Furnishings of a high quality and very comfortable. Bright, light and airy. Highly recommended. Customer 53 (November 2010)
It was nice and clean and spacious, close to a pub and a shop and in a lovely area surrounded by countryside but very easy to get around. Customer 54 (October 2010)
Totally suitable for our needs and great for us to have 3 dogs allowed. Very homely with lots of pictures, books etc about; garden room very cosy and lovely at the time of year we went as might have been too chilly outside to sit.Comfy sofas and roomy sitting room. Customer 55 (October 2010)
Brochure picture didnt do it justice, much larger than looks. Customer 57 (September 2010)
The property was most attractive, in a lovely, quiet location. The kitchen was very well equipped and we really appreciated the provision of a wide range of books, videos and games, as well as the comprehensive information about the island. We would be very happy to make a return visit. Customer 58 (July 2010)
Good size, well laid out and bedrooms and toilets all in right places for members of party. Customer 59 (May 2010)
We’ve stayed at The Blacksmiths Shop in Shorwell five times now. The accommodation has great character, is comfortably furnished and has everything you need, it is a real home from home and we quickly relax into our ’holiday’ mode. This year we’ve enjoyed long walks with spectacular views, days in the local sandy coves watching the sailing boats, relaxing in the little well-stocked garden, chatting with friends in the spacious garden room and much more besides. Shorwell is a very special place and Mary Tester always has the Blacksmiths Shop in tip top condition; it never disappoints. Customer 60 (May 2010)
Just perfect for our family - 3 children and two dogs - enough room for all of us and ideally suited to see the Island to the full. Customer 61 (April 2010)
The property was very cosy and welcoming. There were a lot of little extras like tin foil, washing powder etc.. and it was extremely clean. Customer 62 (March 2010)
The property was like a home from home, everything provided, easy access, very comfortable with lots of space for the children. Customer 63 (February 2010)
If Digital TV is available in Shorewell then perhaps a TV topset box would be a good idea. Customer 64 (December 2009)
Nice and cosy, like home from home. Customer 65 (October 2009)
Although a little out of the way, it was beautiful. It was so well equipped and a welcome gift of fresh flowers, wine and milk was a lovely touch. It was so homely and quiet. There was nothing negative to say and would certainly go back. Customer 66 (August 2009)
The garden room was a quirky little place. Quiet location close to a pub with very good food. Customer 67 (July 2009)
Lovely little cottage in an idyllic village. Extremely quiet and peaceful location. The cottage has a tranquil garden room to relax and enjoy the ambience. Customer 68 (May 2009)
