The cottage was lovely but the roads leading to the cottage where single track, twisty and very narrow. Confirmed Guest (22 July 2017)
Great location the cottage had everything we need and the owners were kind and helpful. A wonderful place to take your dogs where they are safe and free to use the lovely grounds. Sue from Poole, Dorset (17 June 2017)

Swallow cottage is a home from home comfortable place to holiday. If you want a peaceful place to chill out and unwind it is perfect. The owners are on hand and can help with places to visit to suit your needs. The garden is enclosed, great for dogs or sitting out with a cuppa. Upstairs countryside views. A nearby pub for days off from cooking. Lesley from Brighton (27 March 2017)
Excellent cottage with outstanding welcome from the owner with a cream tea provided and the makings of a full english breakfast provided. So peaceful but easy to get to bideford for shops etc. Village pub does good food and is dog friendly. Highly recommended. Angela from Malmesbury, Wilts (18 March 2017)

Lovely place to get away from it all! . delicious scones on arrival and a very friendly and helpful welcome. Jo from Cotswolds (29 October 2016)
A very nice relaxing holiday at such a beautiful cottage Les from Cannock (01 October 2016)
Swallow cottage is a lovely cottage in a really peaceful location. Ideal for walking or relaxing. the enclosed garden is pleasant to sit in, but our dog did not like walking on the chippings. However, she did really enjoy the lawns bordering the drive. . the beaches are lovely and great for dogs, but they are all a drive away. we found bideford has good supermarkets. . . we had a lovely break here and would recommend the cottage to anyone wanting a peaceful getaway from it all. Jackie from Rotherham (17 September 2016)
We found swallow cottage an ideal base to explore north devon, with excellent self-catering facilities, it was also homely, clean and comfortable. The owner had thought of every detail. There was a lovely welcome on arrival & the owner remained contactable in case of any problems (although we had none!). we appreciated the privacy & quiet of the property including the enclosed garden which was situated in the owner's grounds on the edge of a very quiet and rural village. Neil from Oxfordshire (10 September 2016)
Very impressed with north devon, beautiful beaches and countryside. teenager and dog both kept busy and happy all week. swallow cottage was an excellent base to export both coast and inland. Linda from High Peak (20 August 2016)
Lovely cottage great as a base to venture out to different places . warm welcome and fresh scones and breakfast plate really unexpected but very thoughtful to receive . brilliant safe place for dogs quirky upside down cottage very peaceful Karen from Carmarthen (13 August 2016)
The cottage is in a great location but the fixtures and furniture was a bit dated. Confirmed Guest (30 July 2016)

Excellent holiday cottage, one of the best we've stayed in and ideal for our little westie dog with a lovely small enclosed area. Beautiful setting and very helpful owner nearby. Just a short drive to bideford and easy access to the north devon and cornwall coasts. Would certainly recommend this cottage for a couple with a pet dog. Alan from Appleby (18 June 2016)
We had a lovely holiday at swallow cottage. the gardens were delightful and our host was very helpful and welcoming. Michael from Chelmsford, Essex. (04 June 2016)
This was our 2nd stay at swallow cottage within 12 months. We absolutely love this cottage, the little village of buckland brewer and the surrounding area. The owner is very hospitable and friendly. Highly recommended for that relaxing break way. John from Portsmouth (28 May 2016)
Lovely cottage in good location. only comment would be settee not very comfortable. Confirmed Guest (14 May 2016)
Our week in swallow cottage met and exceeded our expectations. Everything was really clean and the only noise we could hear was the birds outside. Totally relaxing!! David from Essex (07 May 2016)
Have stopped at swallow cottage many times. a cream tea and breakfast awaits guests on arrival. the cottage is continually being refurbished by the owner and she makes you very welcome. Highly recommended. Confirmed Guest (29 April 2016)
This was our first time staying at swallow cottage and would definitely stay there again if we visited the area. Booked it because of all the fantastic reviews and they were right. The welcome scones, jam and clotted cream on arrival and the bacon, eggs and tomato for the first morning was lovely. We were worried that the cottage wouldn't be warm enough, we stayed in one before that only had electric storage heaters, but swallow cottage was lovely and warm and cosy. In fact we had to turn the heating down and off during the day when we were out. . the location was very quiet and rural. However, as another reviewer remarked, we couldn't even get a mobile phone signal in the cottage so had to step outside away from the cottage. This might put some people off. Especially liked the enclosed gravel garden immediately outside the cottage which was great for letting our dog out. Really can't fault the furnishings or equipment in the cottage, everything that you needed was there. No wonder it is always fully booked up! Margaret from Melksham, Wiltshire (31 March 2016)
Nice setting and location handy for sightseeing. Could do with a bit of updating in living area/kitchen e.g. Sofa a bit tatty and very uncomfortable. Needs wifi as phone signal virtually none existant Ross from Birmingham (28 March 2016)
A very nice welcome package and no problem with the cottage itself at all. the location is great, a lovely village and a great inn. . I was expecting access to a secure wi-fi but none was available which was disappointing. Eric from Holywell, North Wales (25 March 2016)
Perfect in every way. From the welcome, the cream tea, cooked breakfast ingredients, beautiful flowers and all the other added extras like complimentary shower gel etc in the bathroom I couldn't fault a thing. An absolutely wonderful place to stay. Alison from Paignton (19 February 2016)
A week in paradise. So quiet and plenty of space for our yorkies to explore safely. Very comfy and cosy and the cream tea was gorgeous. Margaret told us about lovely beaches within a short drive and we loved it. Vaughan from Coventry (26 September 2015)
Swallow cottage not only met but exceeded our expectation. Lovely cottage in a secluded location. Ideal for us and our two dogs. Location was also very good in terms of being central and not too far away from other north devon places of interest (such as baggy point, haddon valley, arlington court, bucks mill, clovelly, great torrington and bideford) all of which we visited. Although it was very nice not to have any mobile signal or internet in the cottage, we could get a limited signal 10 feet from the cottage to make urgent calls. Internet connection would have been useful to have been able to check out places of interest from the leaflets in the cottage, most of which gave some details but said to look at their interment sites for more details, which we couldn't, and urgent personal e-mails etc. If the cottage had internet, all our ratings would have been 10. The owner, margaret is a very nice lady and her special touches of 'cream tea on arrival' and 'ingredients for 1st morning breakfast' serve as a warm welcome to the cottage. We would have no hesitation in staying at swallow cottage again. John from Portsmouth (05 September 2015)
Very warm and welcome reception. Very charming and quaint cottage with all the comforts of home. village within walking distance which is steeped in history, locals very friendly. provides the perfect haven to relax and unwind. Sue from Sheffield (22 August 2015)
Outstanding cottage and location is evan better, the coach and horses pub is a must, food, beer and landlord oliver 100% ! Nick from Bristol (08 August 2015)
Lovely accommodation, easy walking distance to local pub which we did most days. our spaniels enjoyed themselves. We would recommend and return to this property. welcome pack was a nice surprise. Tina from Farnborough, Hampshire (18 July 2015)
On arrival we were given a very warm and friendly welcome and the cottage was exactly what we expected - lovely. there were no restrictions given with regard to our small dogs ie not allowed on furniture or in bedroom, and the enclosed garden was wonderful for exploring, which one of our yorkies really does enjoy. to the side of the cottage was a large lawned area which was wonderful for sitting outside and surveying the countryside. overall the cottage covered all our needs and we immediately felt at home and at ease. although you felt that you were the only people around for miles (it was so quiet) within five minutes walk along a country road you came to the community shop run by very friendly people from the village and just a couple of minutes further there was the village pub, the coach and horses, which served good home-made food. definitely recommend this cottage for its comfort, cleanliness and location. Yvonne from Gloucester (20 June 2015)
This was the second time we stayed at swallow cottage and the time spent was as good as ever!our arrival to fresh scones and jam and bacon and eggs supplied by the owner was a lovely touch which started our holiday off. The accommodation was excellent, as was our regular visits to the local pub in the village. The surrounding countryside both coastal and inland are a joy. Its hardly surprising swallow cottage is so popular all year round John from High Wycombe (29 May 2015)
Having been to swallow cottage on several occasions, the location and cleanliness keep us returning. the peaceful surroundings make it an ideal location for a short break and our two dogs love it. we have booked again for next year. Ken from Cornwall (15 May 2015)
Superb location. Very comfortable cottage that was well equipped. Kathryn from St Helens (11 April 2015)
Enjoyable stay (our 6th), despite poor weather (unlucky) as it rained each day unfortunately. however the warmth and comfort of the welcome supplied by the proprietor and the cottage made the inclement weather much more endurable. . the added extra of the large enclosed garden also helped a lot in exercising our shetland sheepdog, bonnie ,when because of uncertain weather we chose to remain at the cottage on occasions. . we hope to return once more for a guaranteed enjoyable stay next year. Leslie from Bovey Tracey, Newton Abbot (04 April 2015)
Lovely cottage in a lovely quiet peaceful location.great walking with the dog too.very friendly helpful owners who left a wonderful cream tea and breakfast for the next day too. Definitely recommend. Confirmed Guest (28 March 2015)
The cottage was in a lovely setting, the owners very welcoming it was peaceful and comfortable and great with the dogs. Shirley from Somerton (12 March 2015)
Lovely cottage, warm welcome, spotlessly clean, devonshire cream tea on our arrival and a full english breakfast in the fridge for the next morning. Plenty of space for our dogs to run around outside. Roberta from Marlborough (09 March 2015)
We were looking last minute for a dog friendly cottage and this looked good. once we were there it was better than good , it was fabulous. the owner was lovely and the cottage was immaculate with views across to dartmoor , a lovely enclosed gravelled garden area(good to let the dog out securely) and a lovely grassed area for him to play on. . if you want peace and quiet then this place is perfect, if you want lively and lots going on then probably not. . we spent a lot of time walking on beaches, coastal walks and river valleys and these are everywhere so it is perfect for outdoor and dog people. . the local pub is dog friendly and very welcoming and even do take away meals from the whole menu. . overall we felt very fortunate to find such a lovely place, people, area. Ian from Cambridge (05 March 2015)
Lovely, well equipped cottage in a lovely setting with very friendly and welcoming owners. Great base for exploring north devon, would definitely stay here again. Kerry from Bedfordshire (21 February 2015)
Lovely touches, christmas deckies a bonus. Would certainly stay again, owner away but taken care of by sue many thanks sue x Barry from Shropshire (04 January 2015)
Super welcome to a lovely property. Ideal for those looking for some peace and quite but with plenty to do just a short distance away. Pub in the village also a great bonus, very friendly and great food. We will be back :-) Andy from Northampton (22 November 2014)
Main things are very clean ie sheets towels and bathroom but carpets very grubby even allowing for the fact that dogs are welcome, they need replacing and general décor extremely dated and dull. Bed very comfortable. Very welcome cream tea on arrival and first days breakfast. Maps and info good. . mainly just décor being like grannies house. I know it is an old cottage and one want's décor in keeping but found it slightly depressing. . on the positive side, good spot for well behaved dogs, badly behaved would have to be kept in small gravelled yard otherwise they could get out on the road. . value for money, I suppose its about right but having stayed in many cottages on holiday I have come to expect more for that amount. . I have tried to highlight the positives and to be honest about negatives. Not for me though. Janet from Brentwood Essex. (25 October 2014)
Our first trip to devon- definitely not the last! cream tea on arrival very welcome plus breakfast for sunday both lovely touches. the location is perfect to explore devon and cornwall- we took 2 lively labradors who had a fantastic time on all those miles of sandy beaches! the enclosed courtyard garden was ideal for them to be outside and the grass at the front ideal to throw a ball if they had any energy left (they didn't!!) local pub very friendly with great food- advise booking in advance. Cottage very warm and cosy with everything you need on hand. . overall- great cottage- friendly owners on hand if needed, fantastic holiday- now going to book for next year. Denyse from Lowestoft (18 October 2014)
Beautiful cottage. welcomed with delicious cream tea and ingredients in the fridge for a lovely english breakfast. The location was great with wonderful views and it was just a short walk to an excellent pub. Roger from Wellingborough (27 September 2014)
We were looking for a peaceful base from which to take day trips to explore the n devon coast, and found it at swallow cottage. A lovely welcome + cream tea from the on-site owner, perfect accommodation, clean, well maintained & good supplies such as towels, private gravel garden for bbqs, helpful info, (ordnance survey maps etc), small collection of books, cds, dvds, fab hot shower.. everything just as expected and as we wanted. . . buckland brewer village 5mins stroll down the lane: friendly, helpful & well-stocked village shop, coach & horses pub had a fine menu, local beers, good friendly service. Again, perfect. (love the meat pie guys!). . perfect for couples, we think, looking for peace 'n' quiet, a place to get away from it all, yet within easy reach of dozens of wonderful n devon places to visit. John from Christchurch (20 September 2014)
Excellent accommonation as the cottage is very clean, has an enclosed garden (just right for our sheltie, bonnie) and the welcoming food of scones and breakfast etc, plus flowers made us feel very welcome. Cottage is well supplied with kitchen essentials, very comfy four poster bed and t.v/radio etc.and dvd player. Most certainly intend to return again and enjoy the accommodation superbly presented. Leslie from Bovey Tracey (13 September 2014)
Some lovely touches - cream tea and breakfast for following day a lovely touch ad treat. cleanliness ok on the surface, but on moving some of the kitchen items around they were sticky to the touch. oven but no oven gloves..a dated interior. The garden wasn't a garden so much as a gravelled area and privacy not great if the owner at home! the photo shows grassed area that is not part of the holiday cottage. disappointed, but perhaps, given all the other reviews, its just me! lots of places to visit an and things to do in the area. Customer 52 from Gloucester (06 September 2014)
Mr and mrs lloyd where very welcoming .swallow cottage is really lovely ,we would love to live there if we could.the welcome we got was lovely with home made scones, cream and jam then we had breakfast as well.both were yummy, lovely touch.really would love to go back next year if we can.we loved loved it there lovely break. Nicky from Portslade,Brighton ,East Sussex (16 August 2014)
We had a fantastic week! to arrive to bacon, eggs etc for a cooked breakfast the next morning and homemade scone with clotted cream and jam was a huge delight. The cottage is warm and cosy and has everything you could need. The enclosed garden was perfect for our nosey rottie, leo. The pub produces excellent food which can either be eaten there ar take away back to the cottage. Loved every minute of it!!!! Rachel from Congleton (07 June 2014)
Absolutely amazing! so quiet. So beautiful. Everything you could need for a stay away from home. The owners were on hand but not intrusive. Truly a dog friendly cottage. Fantastic walking area. Fantastic local pub. Read the previous reviews they say it all. Melanie from Stoke-On-Trent (10 May 2014)
Swallow cottage is a delightful stone barn which is cosy and well-equipped. the owners, who live in the adjacent farmhouse were welcoming and friendly. the cream tea consisting of fresh home-made scones, jam and clotted cream was very welcome - as were the ingredients for sunday breakfast in the fridge. a lovely touch. Susan from Edenbridge, Kent (03 May 2014)
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at swallow cottage. Everything we needed was there and some very thoughtful extras like the cream tea and breakfast for the next day. The enclosed garden was perfect for our two dogs who also enjoyed their stay. The village is lovely and well placed for exploring the surrounding area. Claire from Dorking, Surrey (21 April 2014)

We had a wonderful time at swallow cottage with our 5 month old puppy, phoebe. The cottage was warm and cosy and was such a nice surprise to arrive to scones and jam and also bacon and eggs for breakfast. The village location was very charming and friendly. The cottage has it's own garden which is stock proofed for dogs to be able to go outside. A really lovely cottage and we will recommend to friends and hopefully return ourselves! thank you :) Danielle from Brackley (07 April 2014)
Lovely cottage, thoughtful extras, and a superb location - only a 5 min. Walk from an excellent pub and community shop. Local beaches and towns only a very short drive away. Will definitely stay here again. Peter from Glos (31 March 2014)
Fantastic cottage just outside the local village(2 mins walk away) very comfortable and cosy in bleak feb weather. We had a lovely cream tea waiting for us and a full english breakfast in the fridge which was a lovely gesture. Will definitely stay gain. Tony from Aylesbury (22 February 2014)
Lovely, very friendly owners, very nice local pub and handy shop. Despite not arriving until 9 p.m. We received a warm welcome to a lovely cottage! Richard from Banbury (30 November 2013)
Excellent accommodation once more with mr & mrs lloyd who are both helpful/friendly. The welcoming "food package"/flowers are much appreciated and the enclosed garden and grounds are ideal for all dog owners. Our shetland sheepdog, bonnie, also enjoyed both the inside and outside domain. We intend to return once more. Leslie from Newton Abbot (09 November 2013)
Well equipped cottage, lovely and clean throughout. friendly owners nearby should there be a problem. only observation, tv could have done with being a little larger for the size of room. Martin from Devizes (14 September 2013)

The owners were very welcoming and made us feel very much at home. The property was spotless and extremely well equipped. Customer 95 (May 2010)
There is a small enclosed garden useful for our dog and/or barbecue (provided). However the cottage is sited in a much larger landscaped are which was available only to the owner and ourselves - very pleasant in the sunshine! A complimentary cream tea was ready for us on arrival together with the makings for a cooked breakfast next day. So much thought has been put into what is provided as standard that it is amazing. The owners really are to be congratulated. Needless to say that the same day we returned we booked again for next year. Can we offer anything better than that!! Customer 96 (May 2010)

We were very pleased with Swallow Cottage, it was more spacious than we had anticipated from the photographs, and apart from some personal issues with the bed, was very comfortable and imaginatively laid out. It was also extremely dog user friendly, with a secure garden space and excellent walking facilities. Sept 2012. Customer 101
