Really good spot. nice and tidy cottage, with everything needed to hand; local restaurants and pubs are good, links to the peak district and places of interest ideal. . . would not hesitate in recommending. Francis from London (29 July 2017)
Mill pond cottage is a very nice comfortable cottage. john, the owner was very welcoming and there were really nice touches such as fresh flowers, milk, biscuits etc to welcome guests. if you don't like noise, beware! the cottage is located next to a very busy junction with heavy lorries from the local quarry thundering by during the week from very early in the morning. during the weekend there are a huge number of cars & motorbikes going by. parking on site is also quite challenging if you drive a larger size car. you have to negotiate a narrow gate at the side of the cottage with the pond right behind you! even an experienced driver like myself found it tricky. Eric (01 July 2017)
Perfect cosy base in a village with lots of amenities. Lovely area to explore. Confirmed Guest (10 June 2017)
Gorgeous cottage with lovely home comforts and an amazing view of the village pond. The boat inn pub (30 seconds walk) had superb food. Lovely walks from your door. The area was perfect apart from lots of traffic but walk 5 minutes and your at the canal. Definitely love to stay there again. Donna from Bungay,Suffolk (15 April 2017)
A lovely relaxing cottage with a beautiful outlook over the pond. Plenty of places to eat and well situated to get about. Bus stop practically on doorstep so you don't have to drive everywhere a good service to bakewell and matlock.plenty to do mill tour well worth it. Lovely walk along the canal. Will definitely go again Carole from Birmingham (25 March 2017)
Perfect - location . beautiful setting ( the busy road did not concern us at all). friendly locals Val from Broughton (17 March 2017)
A lovely place to stay!! Sally from Epsom (28 January 2017)
A lovely, cosy cottage in a fantastic location. The view from the cottage across the pond is spectacular and cromford is a great location with matlock just a 20min walk away. Confirmed Guest (02 January 2017)
Fantastic holiday cottage, right in the middle of lots of tourist attractions. lots around to do and see. cottage was very nice, warm, comfy home from home really!!! Deborah from Peterborough (12 November 2016)
We had a fantastic break at the cottage. Cromford is a lovely village with local shops and restaurants. We were able to walk into matlock bath and enjoy local facilities. I would also recommend elements beauty salon very friendly and accommodating. Overall a great holiday with so much choice of things to do and great walks on the doorstep. Kare from Burntwood (22 October 2016)
Cottage and location was ideal for what we wanted good eating places and bus routes Dave from Romford (15 October 2016)
Overall experience good Robert from Bristol Uk (01 October 2016)
Probably one of the best equipped cottages we have ever stayed in, lacking only a dishwasher and razor/toothbrush point. ideally located for matlock, bakewell, buxton, chatsworth, haddon hall and the heights of abraham. excellent local bus service to most tourist spots. spotlessly clean, tea, coffee, milk, flowers and biscuits on arrival. friendly and helpful host. parking fine for one small car, right in the heart of the village with nice outlook over pond. one downside of location is the cottage is sandwiched between 3 very busy main roads, and the traffic noise is continuous 18 hours a day. Janice from Devon (24 September 2016)
Lovely cottage in a great spot had a great week Donna from Stowupland (17 September 2016)
Great location for a base. Lovely cottage no issues whatsoever and nice touch with welcome pack. Board games caused a few arguments though!! would definitely go back. Dean from Newcastle (20 August 2016)
Absolutely loved this cottage. cannot wait to return. Perfect for a family of 4 or 4 adults, although a bit of planning around the single toilet facility may not be to everyones liking. . the cottage is superbly appointed and has all of the home comforts one would expect. The view of the pond each and every day is one that you could never grow tired of. . have stayed in the peaks annually for 10 years or so now and this is one of the nicest cottages we have had the pleasure of staying. A great location as a base for our daily travels. . cromford is a lovely little village situated in the southern end of the peaks; steeped in history. we took full advantage of the local stores; gift shops, pubs, grocers, newsagents and the fantastic fish & chip shops. . cromford mill museum is 'a must' if you are interested in gaining an insight into the life and times of richard arkwright. Recommend that you use the knowledge of the guide, who was very helpful. . whether you like an evening in by the faux log-burner, or nights out around the village pubs I am sure you will have a great time. . thanks to our host john, who made us feel very welcome. . mill pond cottage is to be very highy recommended; looking forward to returning. Gordon from South Shields (13 August 2016)
A beautiful base to explore derbyshire. . we had been warned about the traffic noise and although were an awful lot of lorries we did not hear anything within the four walls of the cottage. Opening curtains to the millpond every morning with the swans, cygnets, ducks, moorhens and resident heron was a brilliant start to the day. The staff at arkwrights store were very friendly, the food and drink at the boat superb, and coming home early to ensure that we could sample the fish and chips from the shop in the market square was well worthwhile. We would have no hesitation in coming again / recommending it to our friends. Julie from Stourport On Severn Worcestershire (06 August 2016)
Enjoyable stay and comfortable cottage with plenty of room Katheri from Isle Of Wight (23 July 2016)
The beds were very lumpy and both of us unable to sleep. My partner resorted to sleeping on the couch down stairs. This caused friction because of lack of sleep, we came home early. When we looked through the visitors book we older comments about the bed !! we met the owner on first day I told him the tap in the bathroom was not working probably but would put up with it, it will need sorting out. This was meant to be a romantic few days away but was not. The mattresses need changing if only for the comfort of others, it is very difficult to make good comment when things were like this. We did not write I the book. Norman Norman from Cricklade (15 July 2016)
The cottage is situated next to a narrow road which is well used by heavy lorries, so traffic noise is constant from the early morning till late at night. there is no private outdoor space either, but picnic chairs are provided if you want to sit by the lake and watch the swans. The property is clean and tidy and well equipped with everything you need - it was just about large enough for 2 adults and 2 teenagers and is conveniently situated about 40 minutes from alton towers and close to lots of other attractions. Dominic from Essex (04 June 2016)
All good great holiday .loved being by the lake .. Margaret from Southamptom (21 May 2016)
Booked the a week before we went, so little research, small but ideal for the two of us, excellent broadband could have streamed video (did not try to) about 7m ish. . . nice big bath, comfortable beds, good kitchen huge fridge/freezer (no ice cubes, hate waiting two hours for my first g&t ha ha - most owners miss this) had most things we needed. . . lovely stove in lounge, gas so no messy stuff, nice warm house. Strangely snowed when we arrived then three days later 24°c. . location was great, near a busy road but overlooking the town pond (small lake really), ducks and swans, even saw a kingfisher wizzing about. Walking distance from reasonably well stocked shops, great fish and chips (i live by the sea thus am fussy) also has a small deli and a tapas bar. . superb location for touring and walking, very close to some great walks. . owner was a sweetheart, very a patient and attentive when we had a small problem which was entirely my fault. Polite and understanding. John from West Runton (07 May 2016)
Very cosy and comfortable and conveniently located for cromford's friendly amenities and for day trips out and local walks. Confirmed Guest (30 April 2016)
A clean and comfortable cottage, well equipped. several extras provided such as washing powder, tea, coffee, sugar, milk, biscuits, sweets and fresh flowers. we went in a cold snap and the cottage was warm and cosy. the owner responded very quickly to an unforeseen problem and tried hard to ensure there was no negative effect on our stay. Rosemarie from Barnstaple (12 March 2016)
Couldn't be better! Paul from East Yorkshire (13 February 2016)

Are only complaint is no instructions for d v d gas fire etc. Customer 30 from Southampton (12 September 2015)
An idyllic location with a super view over the mill pond and so much to do in the area we could easily have stayed an extra week. we had no problems with the noise mentioned by other reviewers. Alison from Chelmsford (29 August 2015)
Very nice cottage in a lovely location. Made very welcome by mr rogerson. Ron from Wymondham. Norfolk. (22 August 2015)
Excellent accommodation in a very good location. Local amenities close by. Very friendly ducks in the pond. Hugh from Bristol (15 August 2015)
Lovely property, very well equipped with lots of lovely touches. View from the window overlooking the mill-pond is delightful. Watched a heron each morning on the little island. Be aware that the property is on a busy road with heavy lorries travelling to the local quarry. Catherine from Bilston (18 July 2015)
A really lovely cottage. very clean, extremely well equipped. the wi-fi worked well. lots of useful walking guides and tourist information. lovely mill pond right outside. Loads to do within a 20 mile radius. parking space is a bit tight (but can park on the space right by the pond too) and no private garden. also, the main road is right outside, so can be a little noisy at times. one of the best little cottages i've stayed in and would love to visit again Margaret from Rochester (13 June 2015)
We had a lovely time, location perfect, locals very friendly. Robert from West Chinnock (23 May 2015)
Nice cottage, but location is too noisy with heavy lorry traffic on the adjacent road. Craig from Hassocks (02 May 2015)
We really enjoyed our stay at mill pond cottage. the cottage is very cozy, clean and well presented. the owner was very helpful and called in on us just after we arrived to check that we were ok. cromford is a nice little village with some useful amenities - such as shops, places to eat & drink and takeaways - all within a stone's throw of the cottage. getting to and from other parts of the peak district from cromford is very easy. Colin from Peterborough (06 April 2015)
Superb cottage great location David from Boston Lincs (21 March 2015)
Lovely little cottage, lovely view of the millpond great for feeding ducks and swans, comfy bed and well maintained , john the owner very helpful, good location for a base for to other areas, a good place to stay, a little traffic noise but enjoyed our holiday there very much. Lynn from Liverpool (14 February 2015)
The accommodation was perfect for our family of four. The cottage was perfectly equipped for children and the location was ideal for trips out or just entertaining ourselves in the village. The owner had left us some nice treats for our arrival and also popped by to check we were ok on the 2nd day of our stay. Vkell from Manchester (04 January 2015)
It was a beautiful cottage. The owner told us information about was was happening in the village entertainment wise. He gave us lots of details about the surrounding places if interest. The house was trimmed up for christmas and he arranged a visit from santa christmas morning. It was magical Karen (28 December 2014)
A lovely cottage in an excellent location. A warm welcome from the owner with some nice extra touches provided, flowers, biscuits etc. Emma from Norfolk (08 November 2014)
We had a great stay at mill pond cottage. the cottage is lovely anf clean, and has everything we needed. Great location, with all the facilities of cromford on the door step including the boat inn pub with great good (& ale!) . only slight annoyance was the road noise, with lorries passing from 6am, but that wouldn't stop us booking again. Simon from Norwich (01 November 2014)
Great cottage in a great location for exploring the western peak district. Jeff from Sulby, Isle Of Man. (25 October 2014)
Our second stay at mill pond cottage in a year. Still warm, comfortable and convenient for seeing the area. An improvement since our last visit has been the installation of secondary double glazing in the bedrooms which has addressed the early morning traffic noise. Wifi is now in the cottage which is great and feeding the ducks and swans on the pond is still great fun. Another lovely weeks holiday. John from Seaton (18 October 2014)
A great little cottage.clean comfortable and cosy and central for visiting all places of interest. Gillian from Bean, Dartford, Kent (26 September 2014)
Great cottage - great location just a little noisy in the mornings as its next to a very busy link road servicing the nearby quarries Mark from Lichfield (25 July 2014)
Great cottage, wonderful village and the boat inn was lovely to enjoy in the evenings. we loved the area and will be back. The owner most helpful and friendly, as was everyone we met in the area. excellent holiday all round - fantastic walking and routes. we've only just sampled a little of it in a week much more to explore. Customer 49 from Trowbridge Wiltshire (12 July 2014)
Beautifully situated in the heart of the village. Cottage was modern inside but quaint on the outside. Owner was very polite and helpful. Will definitely book again. Don't forget the bread for the ducks and fish! . Graham from Camberley Surrey (28 June 2014)
Lovely cottage, well-equiped and roomy with a great view over the millpond. excellent pub and restaurant within metres of the accommodation. the road is noisy but it didn't really bother us and wouldn't stop us staying there again. Ann from Coventry (14 June 2014)
Loved the place a bit noisy on the weekend but still great. Very helpful owner. Great walks straight from the door Chris from Ross On Wye (02 June 2014)
The cottage was very good, from cleanliness to equipment, the best way to describe it is the early morning noise from all the lorries passing by, so close to the house! sometimes, as early as 4.30am! good double glazing would certainly help! not secondary glazing, and all the windows done, the other area, would be to make a definite area to be able to sit out! Shirley from Middlesbrough (24 May 2014)
Lovely cottage in a beautiful area. Mary from Llantwit Major (10 May 2014)
This was the first time we had booked a cottage for a holiday. The cottage exceed all our expectations and the facilities were better than described. The location is excellent and the village covered our general needs. Plenty of options to eat out, steak night at the boat in and the tapas restaurant are both worth a visit. I would recommend this as a base for a visit to the peak district. David from North London (03 May 2014)
Fantastic cottage in a great location, we will definitely return. our son loved feeding the ducks in the pond directly opposite the house. Dale (12 April 2014)
Very homely cottage with a nice view over the mill pond. great to explore the cradle of the industrial revolution in the derwent valley, but road noise from local heavy quarry traffic was an issue. Janet from Flintshire (29 March 2014)
Situated next to a very busy road which was heavy with traffic from very early in the morning. This was the only thing which would prevent me from staying there again as it was lovely otherwise. Teresa from Bolton (22 March 2014)
Really lovely cottage, personal touches appreciated eg milk bicuits xmas decs.one of the best kept cottages we have ever stayed in. Beverley from St.Albans (03 January 2014)
Warm cosy clean well equipped cottage. Ideal for our christmas holiday. We will return for another time of year. Kit from Deal (28 December 2013)
Cottage was cosy and warm.views over the mill pond were great and feeding the ducks and swans was a real treat. Cottage was well equiped and the fresh flowers, milk and bowl of sweets on arrival was a nice touch. The cottage is near a main toad so traffic can be heard at certain times. Stuart from Beer (30 November 2013)
Went in nov.2013.very cold and frosty.the view over pond and the cosy cottage were ideal.location in village great easy reach to everything that mattered,ie shop, pub, restaurant and easy walking to a variety of attractions. val and peter Peter from Welsh Marches (15 November 2013)
Fantastic location lovely cottage friendly people what more could we want from a holiday. Alex from Westward Ho (09 November 2013)
This holiday cottage is perfect. My children and I loved our stay here. Sweets, fresh flowers, milk, tea, coffee and biscuits were all provided on our arrival which is a nice touch. Views from the children's bedroom directly across the millpond are lovely. This cottage really deserves 10 out of 10, the only reason we've given it a 9 is because it has no wi-fi. Jamie from Dersingham, Norfolk (24 August 2013)
Really enjoyed out stay at millpond cottage, owner is lovely and friendly. Cottage ideally located for lots of touristy things, loads to do in surrounding area. Can be noisy in the early hours because of passing lorries, but that's the price you pay for being centrally located and being able to walk to the local pub and restaurant, which are both fab!!! the boat inn has a very warm welcome, as does the market place. Overall a big thumbs up!! Jo from Cambridge (17 August 2013)
Well located, there are a lot of attractions within a very short distance. I have never driven so few miles whilst away on holiday. very picturesque set alongside the mill pond with car parking immediately available next to the cottage. found everything we needed in the property. Adrian from Littlehampton, West Sussex (13 Jul 2013)
Central for locations Kenneth from Washington Tyne And Weat (25 May 2013)
Beautiful situation, parking a bit tricky for larger cars, comfortably appointed.ideal for local shops. Kevin from Watford (18 May 2013)
The cottage was very comfortable and homely lots of little extras such as a vase of daffodils in the lounge, a bol of sweets and packet of biscuits. John the owner was very pleasant and helpful. Maureen (04 May 2013)
Well equipped. Friendly owner who came on first day to answer any questions and give advice on facilities and locality Paul from Norfolk (13 April 2013)
Good location for visiting many interesting places, plenty of areas to visit for walking Diane from Sleaford (15 March 2013)
Great little cottage; comfortable, warm and clean with a brilliant location. Owner very friendly and thoughtful. The pond is a great source of entertainment particularly the ongoing feud between one of the swans and one of the geese! cromford provides good eating by way of fish and chips, market restaurant and the boat inn and there is so much to see and do locally. We found the kitchen reasonably well equipped despite comments from others and although the cottage is on a busy(ish) road we were not disturbed by it at all. We had a great week in february and would happily recommend. Andrew from Ampthill (23 February 2013)
Location. Lovely cottage. Fire Fiona from London (03 January 2013)
The owner, john, provided a gift hamper for our christmas stay and made sure that the cottage was cosy warm when we arrived. The location was exceptionally good. Cromford is a beautiful village. A lovely cottage, very plainly furnished which is ideal when you have young children. Well equipped with an amazing duckpond right outside the door which the kids loved. Cromford is a very pretty place with friendly locals and good pubs. Polly from London (27 August 2012)
Great location with a lovely view of the pond. Comfortable, especially the living/dining room. Right in the village with its shops and pubs and the world heritage site mills and local walks. Easy access to the rest of the peak district. Lots of information provided in the cottage. Friendly and helpful owners. Sue from Hong Kong (04 August 2012)
Clean and tidy cottage. all general facilities provided. lovely location next to mill pond. generally quiet (no rowdy neighbours) Roz from Havant (21 July 2012)
Great location. Great owner! Ian (19 May 2012)
The property is in a great location, it is comfortable and cosy. The fridge is at very low level so anyone with bad back beware. Overall experience was a very good one. Big thanks to the owner who responded to cooker issue very positively - Thank You! Customer 81 (May 2012)
Great cottage in a handy location for Cromford village. Within easy access of plenty places to eat and good walks. It would benefit from some more items in the kitchen (just the very basics provided), and a dishwasher would be more helpful than a washing machine but overall a great place to stay. Customer 82 (April 2012)
Very well located and very comfortable cottage. Very handy for eating out and a variety of tourist visits. Customer 83 (April 2012)
