Not up to expected standard. Grubby cooking utensils, poor bathroom facilities( only one toilet roll provided, very slow running drains). no welcome pack ( other farm stays we have stayed at provided milk coffee tea and biscuits or cake on arrival). owners left on holidays the second day of our stay Leslie from Melbourne Australia (19 May 2017)
We had a brilliant family holiday. It's a beautiful cottage in a beautiful, peaceful location. The owners are lovely, friendly and helpful and so we're their dogs who came to visit our puppy every morning. The cottage has everything you could ask for to enjoy a lovely, quite, relaxing holiday. The photos don't do it justice, the bedrooms are so quaint my teenage girls loved them and our room was perfect. Thank you Lisa from Bolton (15 April 2017)
We loved it and will be back! Sarah from Warwickshire (25 February 2017)
Had a lovely relaxing getaway John from Walsall (29 January 2017)
Treated my girlfriend to birthday surprise weekend away at this amazing hideaway and although we have a rule on never staying at the same place twice, we both agreed that we would stay at sophies barn again. The scenary is beautiful, the owners were very friendly and there's that much to see within an hours drive. We went to rhayaedar dam for the day then spent the night by the cosy log fire, eating steak and drinking cava :) the cooker, yes, is a little outdated but this is honestly the only fault we could pick. Wouldn't hesitate to go again! Darren from Staffordshire (22 January 2017)
Lovely cottage with beautiful views, very friendly owners. Cottage is very comfy and cosy, just a bit tired looking in parts. cooker in kitchen needs replacing. enjoyed our stay and would return. Ann from Liverpool (12 January 2017)
I stayed here for the weekend with three friends and we had a fantastic time; the barn is beautiful, cosy and in the middle of nowhere, which was exactly what we wanted. We felt so welcome and the fire was lit and ready for us when we got there, which was very much appreciated after a long drive. Thank you so much for having us! Jennifer from London (11 December 2016)
We had a lovely time. Lovely cottage, beautiful area and friendly and helpful owners! Dorothea from Bromsgrove (03 November 2016)
We stayed at sophie's cottage for 2 nights and we had a lovely time, it's a lovely clean place and the views r stunning. It had washing up liquid and cleaning stuff so we didn't have to take that but u need a drying cloth and we took a etra toilet roll which was used. We had the fire going which was lovely but after the first lot of wood they provide we had to buy our own but they sell it at the local garage which is really cheap! overall we had a lovely time there! Melanie from Farnborough Hants (09 October 2016)
Had a great week, comfortable & spacious accommodation, very friendly & helpful. Owners, and amazing location. Would love to visit again soon. Emma from Cardigan (17 September 2016)
Lovely converted barn in a stunning location. very dog friendly. stunning walks from the door. lots to do in the area but especially good for walkers. owners very friendly and helpful. Tracey from Trowbridge (09 September 2016)
If you want a relaxing holiday then this is for you. beautiful scenery when you wake up puts you in a good mood in the morning. lovely little places to visit in the car. very comfy place to stay. our dog loved it as he loved the garden and enjoyed seeing the sheepdogs. an updated kitchen may be needed as cooker is very dated. lovely stay here Philip from Backbarrow (03 September 2016)
The location for this property is amazing, it is surrounded by beautiful welsh countryside literally from the back door. the down side being the barn was a little jaded, and there were cans of petrol being kept in a storage room under one of the bedrooms. The smell of petrol was evident as soon as we walked in the living room. I mentioned it to the owner , and she took the cans out. I believe the petrol mower is also stored there which could pose a fire hazard. that aside, it is s beautiful place for peace and quiet, and would be even better if it was updated a little and a few broken things mended. Angela from Ramsgate Kent (27 June 2016)
Converted barn in a lovely location looking down on a valley with a river running through it. peaceful. friendly owners. however, no cupboard space provided in kitchen area to put food stuffs etc. also no drawers upstairs to put clothes just a rack for hanging up. good enclosed garden area if you have a pet. Elizabeth from Warrington (18 June 2016)
Highly recommend sophie's barn, would definitely stay here again. Sam from Colchester (11 June 2016)
A beautiful setting, very well done conversation really great walks and views handy for shops and pubs definitely going again . brilliant stay Julian from Stonehendge (28 May 2016)
My puppy mabel and I had a most wonderful relaxing week. Beautiful walks and views, welcoming hosts and even good weather. If it had rained the log burner and dvds would have kept me happy in the character barn. , with plenty of space for a family. Rosemary from Alton (23 April 2016)
A wonderfully idyllic converted barn in the beautiful welsh countryside. Stunning views, lovely fire, great hosts. Lawrence from Frodsham (10 April 2016)
The barn gives an away from it all experience with a beautiful setting yet is only about an 8 minute drive into llandridnod wells. There a some lovely walks on the doorstep, including shaky bridge. . the owners live in close proximity to the barn and are obviously busy farmers so there are tractors and quad bikes coming and going with friendly sheepdog too. . . as far as equipment was concerned we felt it had most things you'd need although couldn't find any scissors or cleaning products to be able to clean cooker on our departure. The cooker is rather retro and in my opinion could do with being replaced. I think there could be more towel rails in the bathroom to enable 4 towels for each guest to be hung in there. Towels would be a nice inclusion in the facilities as would logs. There is enough to get a fire started but then you have to purchase your own. Jo from Bradford On Avon (08 April 2016)
Had a fantastic time at sophies barn, seven year old daughter was invited up onto the farm to see the new born lambs, she totally enjoyed cuddling the lambs and had some great pictures to take back to school after the holidays. We also took our english bull terrier with us and the secure back garden meant she was free to run about as much as she wanted too without any risk of her escaping. Lovely cottage with beautiful views, owners are lovely people, really friendly and make you feel welcome but leave you to it as well. Walks are great in the surrounding areas, even ventured up the mountain behind the cottage, needless to say that by the end of the week even our normally hyper bully was chilled and all walked out :-) . will definitely go back there and stay there again. Lisa from Swansea (01 April 2016)
Wow! what can I say. What an amazing short break. This cottage is perfect. We've just got back from a 5 day break and can't wait to book to go again. The cottage is lovely, well equipped and everything that you need is there. Perfect for dog owners with an enclosed garden, our dog spent more time outside than in! . . the owners who live on site couldn't have been more helpful, checkin in most days to see if everything was ok. We were also told by them to go see their lambs in the top barn that had just been born. What an experience. . . the cottage is perfectly situated right in the middle of wales which is superb for visiting different places which we did every day. . . would highly recommend and will definitely be booking again soon. Paul from Colchester (26 February 2016)
Fabulous weekend at the cottage, cosy, full of character and wonderfully remote! the log burner is great once you get it going but it uses up a lot of fuel that you have to buy in the local town as the owners don't sell logs (only coal). we didn't realise towels weren't provided so had to go into town to buy some but I think it would be nice if these were provided in the future in the same way that bed linen is as towels take up valuable suitcase space! very welcoming owners, would happily book again. Clare from Harrogate (01 February 2016)
Our holiday was fantastic in this beautiful country farm converted barn. The location was gorgeous and we could see hills from everywhere in the cottage, which was done up beautifully. The sofa and bed were wonderfully comfy and everything provided was good quality. There were also lovely little extras making it really feel like a home, as well as about 10 books for adults and the same for childeren, a dvd player and a small selection of dvds. The couple who own the farm and the cottage were lovely, really generous and thoughtful - we were lent maps and wellies during our stay. This christian couple made our stay really comfy and we would wholeheartedly reccomed the cottage to anyone wanting a peaceful getaway. Freya from Aberystwyth (22 January 2016)
We had a lovely weekend break here. It was great for the dog, very peaceful and lovely cottage. Louise from Preston (12 October 2015)
Cosy accommodation in an absolutely stunning location. We were made to feel really welcome by the owners. There are beautiful walks on your door step and a town just a few minutes away with everything you could need. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for picturesque escape from the daily grind! Hannah from Hampshire (03 October 2015)
Superb location in quiet rural setting on a working sheep farm. owners are friendly and helpful. Plenty of local walks. David from Ipswich (26 September 2015)
We had an excellent week. Suzanne and philip were great hosts and made us feel very welcome. The cottage was very comfortable and in a wonderful setting . Chris from Shaftesbury Dorset (19 September 2015)
Fantastic and beautiful place, can't fault it. Owner suzanne was very friendly and very welcoming would stay again. Danny from East Sussex (22 August 2015)
Fantastic little barn conversion in an idyllic location. Super friendly hosts that cannot do enough for you. Am so impressed I have already booked again for next year. Gordon from Bath (15 August 2015)
Our hosts were brilliant and the tour of the farm on day one by land rover (which was offered to us to use if wanted) was so useful as I intended to fish the river. Not only did I catch lots of small brown trout and salmon parr but one of my five in the morning starts rewarded me with a twenty minute otter watch just down the hill from the cottage. . my wife was given lessons on sheep shearing and invited to take photos of the shearing team at work in the barn. . we hope very much to return. Mark from Lutterworth (11 July 2015)
The spot beats anything, the owners are very kind. Inside we missed a seperat room for the kids. The kitchen esp. The sink should get a better care. Towels and a hairdryer would be useful. Bertram from Bad Wimpfen (06 June 2015)
This cottage is in an idyllic situation. the owners were helpful and friendly. we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in sophie's barn and would definitely like to return. Bill from Leicester (17 April 2015)
Great place , great holiday, lovely owners. Would recommend to anyone. Go prepared for a good time and you'll definitely have one - or there's something wrong with you Karen from Derbyshire (11 April 2015)
Very nice barn good location and very nice owners Confirmed Guest (14 February 2015)
A beautiful barn with stunning scenery. My reason for giving a lower score above is that we expected loo roll and towels to be provided as standard. The owners kindly helped us out but we were told we should have brought our own. We've stayed in many cottages and have never had to do this previously, so it came as a surprise. They did provide extra fuel though which was just as well as we were staying on a particularly cold weekend. Lesley from Wirral (18 January 2015)
Nice quiet location with excellent views across the valley. Main town of llandrindod wells within very easy short drive. The barn had everything that was required, nice wood burner to sit in front of and watch the tv for a cosy night in. Fenced shared garden ideal for a dog or two but don't be surprised to see a sheepdog visitor or two. Owners are very friendly and approachable. Mark from Gosport (28 December 2014)
We enjoyed our stay in sophie's barn.the owners made us very welcome. Beautiful scenery and location. Enjoyed various walks in the area. Will definitely be back! Jackie from Croydon (18 October 2014)
The barn is locate in an idyllic part of cwmbrith looking out over the river ithon onto rolling hills. The owners phillip and susanne are very friendly. Staying in the barn is a real treat, it is very comfortable and warm. It also gives a good insight what is like to live on a working farm. This is our second visit this year and we look forward to booking again next year. . Brian from Hereford (11 October 2014)
If you are looking for spectacular views, peace and quiet and a chance to get away from it all then this is the place for you. My husband and I have spent two wonderful days here just relaxing and enjoying the scenery. Struck it lucky with fabulous weather too. Only wish we had longer Fiona (08 September 2014)
A beautiful location and a superb cottage, the owners were friendly and helpful which contributed to a very relaxing time we all had. Sarah from St.Neots (06 September 2014)
This is our second holiday at sophie's barn, it really is a lovely place to stay (probably our favourite). perfect for getting away from it all. . . will be back next year! . . needs more photos as they do not do it justice! :) Claire (30 August 2014)
Read my comments in the book. The best place to stay, in my opinion. Iqbal from Hayes (23 August 2014)
Another fantastic stay at this wonderful converted barn. Location is outstanding offering plenty of diverse walking around the surrounding area or if you fancy something a little more adventurous ellan valley is a short car journey away. Owners are a stones throw away and are some of the friendliest people you can meet. (along with their working collies who were always very god with my own dogs). can't wait to book again. Gordon from Corsham (09 August 2014)
We were lucky with the weather and spent most of the time touring mid wales. The cottage was fine the only downside being night time noise from two of the owners dogs in pens about 60 yards away. This was more than offset by the views from the cottage and it's patio. Good and almost perfect. Neil from Oakham, Rutland (12 July 2014)
Superb location, stunning views, quiet surroundings. great for fishing, cycling and walking or just sitting and glorying in the landscape. very accommodating owners. can't praise it enough. Peter from Nottingham (01 May 2014)
Had a fabulous time, excellent location. If life is just getting too much, then this is the perfect getaway. Amazing location. Would definatly book again. Pictures are dated, the cottage is nicer then it seems on the pics. Dont think, just book!!! . . Imran from Leicester (21 April 2014)
We had a lovely 2 nights at sophie's barn, it was the perfect getaway and such a stunning location! the only thing that let it down slightly was the heating..even with the fire going it was quite drafty, although we were there in awful winter storms! also no nice pub or place to eat nearby which is a shame but we were happy to stay in :) Lucy from Bristol (09 February 2014)
We had a wonderful week at sophie's barn. The owners were so helpful , the location was amazing, a fantastic area for walks and getting away from it all !! highly recommended. Julia from Neyland (28 September 2013)
The pictures do not do this justice at all. It was a fabulous idyllic place to stay. We were welcomed by the family and it was a perfect place to stay with our dog.. I spent a lot of time removing the draft excluder from her mouth as she thought she had been provided with a new toy. She also had a little holiday romance with thomas one of the farms dogs. We struck lucky with the weather and had a truly wonderful stay. Intend to visit again. Would highly recommend. Claire (31 August 2013)
Fantastic barn in great secluded location, the owners couldn't be more accommodating watching the sheep shearing was great fun. Jeannette from Faversham Kent (20 Jul 2013)
Beautiful barn Hannah from Dudley (10 February 2013)
Sophies Barn was delightful! Better than expected (photos do not do it justice!) Very beautiful location, quiet and perfect for a peaceful getaway! Very nice owners too! We would like to return in better weather to appreciate all the countryside more! Customer 52 (December 2012)
Beautiful setting and suzanne and her family were lovely and very welcoming. Told us about a great local restaurant and we were very comfortable. Will be going again next year x Sam from Cardiff (21 October 2012)
Location on the river ithon ws excellent Karen from Llandrindod Wells (02 June 2012)
This is a lovely cottage in a beautiful setting. A relaxing break. The owners live in the house next to the cottage but left us to it and welcomed the children who even went for a ride in the land rover to feed the lambs. Customer 55 (June 2012)
2nd visit to Sophies Barn, fantastic again. Lambing time when we went and so nice to see the lambs with their mums. The barn is clean and has everything in iy that’s needed and the log burner is wonderful. Views to die for, amaxing... Customer 56 (March 2012)
Lovely quiet barn conversion in the middle of beautiful countryside. Customer 57 (February 2012)
As described... very rural, beautiful, you need wellies!! Customer 58 (January 2012)
This was everything I wanted from a weekend in Wales with my family, including 2 children. A lovely and comfortable and unique place to stay with character, and spectacular views of very Welsh scenery. We would definitely want to return. Customer 59 (December 2011)
For November the weather was ok. The Cottage is amazing, everything you need is there, even a pair of binoculars to watch the wildlife and soak in the amazing views, can’t wait to go back. Customer 60 (November 2011)
We arrived exhausted, and Sophie’s Barn and this part of Wales was the perfect tonic to recharge our batteries. The barn is excellently located at the head of an extremely picturesque small valley, away from the main farmyard, but close to the farmhouse should you need anything. We were given a fantastic welcome by the family who made us feel special and at home. They were very happy for us to walk our dog through the farmland down to the river, and it was always a lovely start to our day. Overall we loved Sophie’s Barn for it’s views, comfort and cosiness. This was the first time we’ve rented a holiday cottage and would love to come back. Thank you for a great holiday! Customer 61 (October 2011)
Nearest Pub 3 miles away. Great base for exploring area. Lovely setting. Great for doggie families. Friendly owners. Customer 62 (August 2011)
The property was excellent and far exceeded our expectations, the owners were extremely helpful and the location was beautiful. The peace and quiet was amazing (apart from the lambs and sheep bleating, absolutely nothing was heard). Customer 63 (April 2011)
Compact, well-equipped barn conversion. Sleeps 4 in two rooms - open plan; not private. Owners very welcoming and helpful. Secluded location with wonderful views and walks. Customer 64 (April 2011)
It had everything you need. Customer 65 (February 2011)
The views from the living room are spectacular and on a cold day with the woodburner alight you would be more than happy to just stay put and enjoy the view. The mezzanine bedroom arrangement for us was perfect as we had a 11yr old that loved the idea of having his own space, but appreciated the security of being able to see us in the opposite mezzanine. Our dog loved playing with the owners sheepdogs and there is space for a dog to roam safely off the lead and without the risk of harming sheep. Customer 66 (January 2011)
Peaceful break in beautiful surroundings. Customer 67 (September 2010)
The barn was beautifuly laid out and very comfortably furnished and stunning surroundings. Customer 68 (August 2010)

Perfect. Out of the way. Quiet. Excellent views. Lovely wooden stove fire to keep you warm. Customer 74 (November 2009)
A lovely cottage in the best countryside Wales can offer, but close enough to a larger town for anything you may need. Customer 75 (October 2009)
Amazing location, very dog friendly owners. Customer 76 (October 2009)
Sophie’s Barn has fantastic views over the River Ithon. The hosts are super and very friendly people. Lovely place and very tranquil. A perfect getaway from the stresses and strains of daily life - it was like another world. Customer 77 (August 2009)

Great location - in the middle of fields and forests, close to little town with amazing park; good place to take a dog but if your dog cannot stay with others - please note that the owners has got two lovely dogs! Barn is amazing, but the bedrooms are open plan. We had an amazing weekend, owners friendly and helpful. Customer 81 (October 2007)
