The indoor swimming pool is the real attraction of this property. Some of the lounge furniture is now looking somewhat worn and is in need of replacement. Very conveniently placed for king's lynn. Geoffrey from Reigate (05 March 2017)
The house was in need of some tlc. The shower curtain in the downstairs bedroom wasn't fixed to the wall so fell down when you pulled the curtain across. The front door wasn't very secure and the carpet inside got very wet when it rained. The pool cover mechanism kept falling apart when you turned it. The pool wasn't very clean and I was told on arrival that the jacuzzi pool didn't work, one of the reasons I booked the cottage. Provided a very nice array of food and drink on our arrival. Lack of wifi. We were disappointed there wasn't any. . the chlorine in the pool was incredibly strong. my son and my eyes were burning even whilst we were watching our granddaughters from the side of the pool. My daughter in the pool really suffered as well. . . we appreciated good supply of games left in drawers for children Leora from Reading (18 February 2016)
There were lots of things we really liked about homelands - lovely welcome pack and fruit on arrival; cleaner and her family always willing to come and sort out any problems - though they didn't solve them all! loved the quirky old house but oven not really big enough to cope with a large group for xmas and it is designed for big groups after all. our children were all looking forward to using the pool but there were problems with the boiler. Again real attempts were made to fix it but in the end we stopped using it when the water temperature went up to 43degrees. Really needs proper maintenance and overhaul. Some very dusty cupboards - but then it is an old house. Some of the information out of date too - we had hoped to visit the local pub but it looked as if it had closed some time ago. Social club only open in the evening which is not so useful in winter with young children. Other pubs all a drive away so our plans for a convivial meet for lunch on xmas eve and then walk back had to be abandoned. Eileen from Colchester (28 December 2015)
We agreed with most aspects of previous reviews i.e. The spiders webs everywhere and worn setees, but the swimming pool facility is first class and made the holiday for us all. The general road congestion in the area was very disappointing; and affected every outing; which is the fundamental reason for not returning to homelands. Julie from Brentwood (21 August 2015)
We had an excellent holiday at homelands. . . the cottage was a good size for our party of 10 (1 family). there were two double-bed rooms, one double-bed + single-bed room, and two 2 single-bed rooms. . . the living space was a comfortable size too, with a large living room (with enough comfy chairs to sit 10 people, which felt like too much for the space to me, but I suppose would be needed for 10 adults), a good size dining room, and a large kitchen. . had the weather been warmer the kids would have enjoyed the large garden space the property has too. . . the weather was cold, but the property was kept lovely and warm, so no complaints there - (although it might be worth noting that the downstairs double+single was the coldest room, and may be worth having an extra blanket). . the pool made the holiday for us. It was warm, and whilst not huge, worked great for our 10! had we been a party of 10 adults, the pool would certainly have felt very ..cosy!. . the only things that let the house down in our opinion were:. 1.) the oven - was a little bit hopeless, and would have caused us a significant problem if we were expecting to prepare meals from scratch at the property. The grill part of the oven never made it above luke warm. 2.) only two tea-towels were provided, which would be woefully inadequate for a party of 10 that wasn't comprised of 8 kids, and had any serious cooking been undertaken. 3.) the wood provided for the stove was too green to burn - i.e. It hadn't had time to dry out, and as a result it didn't burn, it went out. . . all in, an excellent holiday. Andy from Coalville (28 February 2015)
A very tired house in need of full redecoration / refit throughout. Poor tv reception in lounge no reception to bed one. Ceiling paper hanging down in places. I would say for over two thousand pounds for a week very poor value for money. Tony from Leicester (29 August 2014)
Cleanliness only let down by the cobwebs etc which you totally expect from a cottage of this age and style. great homely feel throughout and brilliant indoor pool. Great location close to small local amenities and also easy to get to larger stores and attractions etc. Lindsey from Bedford (12 May 2014)
Very tired property in serious need of an update. beds and showers need replacing and whole property needs gutting and cleaning. Sophie from Beaconsfield (05 May 2014)
We had a nice week there but there are things that need sorting. the place is not cleaned thoroughly enough in between change overs. within 2 hours of arriving I had to fish 3 lumps of old screwed up tissue from under a bed. I dread to think what was on them. Then my 11 year old daughter handed me a packet of pills that she found down the side of a cushion. this was quite alarming and after a bit of googling we found out they were for diabetics. . it was also generally dusty and I need of a good spring clean. there were mouse droppings everywhere. (i suppose you could forgive this given it was right next to a field). . the tv also needs updating. we took apparatus to watch films in the evening only to find the tv is one of the old crt type and doesn't take hd leads. There was a vhs video recorder there (for those that can remember them! ). on the plus side we'd found the beds to be comfy and there was plenty of room for us all ( there was 8 of us). the fireplace was lovely and we had stock of plenty of logs. . what really made the holiday for us though was the pool. the kids loved it and adults too. it was lovely and warm and plenty big enough to play around in for hours. . the location is good. Nice and quite but also near all the convenience stores you might need such as tesco and restaurants etc. Hunstanton is not to far way either if you fancy a day on the sea front. . Stephen from Northampton (21 February 2014)
The holiday cottage on the whole was comfortable and interesting but unfortunately was only surface clean. we moved a couple of beds to accommodate our party and behind clearly hadn't been cleaned for a long, long time. the cottage would benefit from a little tlc. the vendors however were very helpful and willing to answer any questions we had. Confirmed Purchaser from Beccles (28 December 2013)
The property was clean with everything in place, just what you would expect for and old county cottage. We were a party of 6 and had plenty of space, if you were a party of 10 adults the upstairs ablutions would have been a little overworked. Had a most enjoyable holiday were met by the caretaker and shown round she answered all my queries, always helpful to be shown round. We would return. Nick from Headly Down (01 November 2013)
Wasnt very clean asked cleaner to come back and replace kettle because of "scaling" inside also asked about the oven and hob being cleaned and was told that she had changed the (small piece) of foil in base of oven didnt think shelves needed doing. We ate out!! which was difficult with 8 children. Downstairs bedroom and bathroom felt damp with little hot water. Had to ask for kindling and logs which were that big wouldnt fit in fire properly. Fire had not been cleaned out with us having to remove lots of old ashes before we could start. Enid from Rochdale (16 August 2013)
Location was good to be able to drive out to the coast. The property was spacious, with enough space in the dining room and sitting room to accommodate 10 people. The welcome items e.g fruit bowl were well received. Laura from Royston (06 May 2013)
Very clean, easily accessible location. Plenty of sleeping combinations, plenty of parking facilities. Excellent pool and jacuzzi with showers. Large open plan rooms. Plenty of seating and plenty of outdoor area for activities. James from Lincoln (18 February 2013)
Beautiful setting Lee from Luton (17 August 2012)
There was a lovely welcome pack when we arrived. It was a very comfortable and spacious property, ideal for a family when all ages could get together. The pool was much enjoyed. Customer 17 (October 2011)
A lovely property and very well suited for our needs. It was in a good location with close access to a supermarket, restaurants and the town centre. The indoor pool was fantastic for those rainy days. Customer 18 (August 2011)
The cottage was lovely and warm and also had the advantage of a lovely roaring fire. The sight of fruit, tea and coffee and all the extras was very welcoming. Fantastic value for money, and of course the pool... wonderful. Customer 19 (February 2011)
Great welcome from the housekeeper - even had a Christmas tree and a few decorations as well as a huge bowl of fruit. Very clean and warm. Kitchen was well-stocked - crockery, utensils, etc. Pool was brilliant and facilities in pool house were excellent. Customer 20 (December 2010)
We liked absolutely everything! Better than expected. Customer 21 (October 2010)
Large, comfortable, child friendly cottage. Steep stairs to the bedrooms negotiated well by our two toddlers. Plenty of beds and rooms to choose from. All the mod cons. Customer 22 (August 2009)
The pool was fabulous and our seven grandchildren were in there twice a day. I think that the bedrooms were basic and some of the other rooms looked ’tired’. Nevertheless we had a wonderful time and enjoyed having scavenger hunts on the common. Pity that the nearest beach was Hunstanton. Would go again. Customer 23 (July 2009)
Homely, comfortable. Customer 24 (June 2009)
Owners particularly friendly and helpful. Swimming pool absolutely fantastic. Customer 25 (February 2009)
Property was amazing - we all had a great time. Particularly liked the virtual tour on the website before arrival. Customer 26 (September 2008)
Excellent pool facilities, and welcome package. Owner was extremely friendly and helpful. House was lovely, and was an excellent venue for our short break - would highly recommend and will be looking to book again in the future. Customer 27 (September 2006)
