Great weekend! well worth checking out Neil (17 July 2017)
10 am check out time.. 10.01h the cleaner was ramming into the property.. not great.. Iker (29 May 2017)
Lots to like but lots that needs work too, the decor was very dated and shabby in places, pots and pans were not of a suitable size for no of occupants. There were an excessive number of do's and don'ts written in mixture of passive aggressive and just plain aggressive. On the plus side the location was beautiful, the beds were super comfortable, the hot tub was a real treat, sadly the pool was too small to be of real benefit but it was nice to have. Walking in the area was stunning and it made a lovely location for a family get together - we had mentioned a special birthday and were greeted with wine and biscuits which was a lovely treat!overall we enjoyed it but we just expected a much higher standard of finish. Especially given the price we paid! Louise (01 May 2017)
Amazing accommodation with great views, peace and quiet, and a relaxing atmosphere. Very friendly and considerate staff and the facilities are top notch. Very clean on arrival with an amazing birthday surprise waiting. Lee (23 April 2017)
The views are stunning and thankfully the weather was perfect. The house was cosy and clean, we felt very relaxed during our 3 day stay. Only downside was the main road to bakewell was closed during our stay which meant getting to 'local' shops resulted in a 15 mile diversion, next time I will stock up before arriving. Miss Rachel (09 April 2017)
We had a lovely time and particularly enjoyed the hot tub with the views. The swimming pool was a little bit disappointing but apart from that it was great. Confirmed Guest (20 February 2017)
Great place to stay and the most comfortable bed..ever! beautiful scenery, it's great that you can book exclusive use of the pool. Would visit again. Confirmed Guest (14 February 2017)
Although we enjoyed our stay, this was due to the company more so than the cottage. The cottage was very dated and looked as if it was in dire need of sprucing up. in particular, one shower (and that was an over the bath type) for the whole property is not sufficient for a large group. the only other bath did not have a showerhead attachment so you could not even wash your hair whilst having a bath. the accommodation was very small for our party of 7 plus dogs, so not sure how it would fare with 10. one bedroom was damp and cold the whole stay. all the bedrooms were on the small size compared to what we're used to. only one bedroom had a wardrobe, so storing clothes was an issue. our stay was not helped by our first night adventure. one of our small dogs escaped through the fence (it was dark when we got there so we could not see that small dogs could get out under the fence) of our 'enclosure'. all seven of us were looking for him, when the owner of the property opposite said 'well I hope he's not on our property, this is private land' - despite their gate being open! very welcoming I must say. we did find the dog after half an hour of looking but this soured things from the start. . on a good note, the hot tub was very good, and maintained throughout our stay, so was always ready to jump into, without any work from ourselves. The wifi allowance was laughable though. you get a small allowance (1gb I think) per device per day. ok if you're just browsing facebook. not good if you're working on your laptop. even worse of you wanted to watch a match on skygo (as there is no satellite tv) - lasted about 10 minutes, then couldn't get onto wifi for a day. We've stayed in a cottage the last few years over christmas, and stayed in some very nice places. perhaps we've been spoiled. however, this was definitely not up to the standard of previous cottages. all in all, a rather disappointing experience. David from Stoke-On-Trent (28 December 2016)
We went to celebrate my parents golden wedding anniversary so we wanted something special - and we got it! stunning cottages placed in the beautiful countryside. It made three generations of one family very happy and we didn't want to leave. Will definitely be going back! Cathryn from Allison (28 November 2016)
My family stayed at de ferrers to celebrate my dad's birthday a couple of weeks ago. The location of the cottage was perfect, close to bakewell and local pubs with a beautiful view out to the countryside. . . when we arrived it wasn't possible to pull the cars up to the cottage to unload. This however wasn't stated in the confirmation and we ended up dragging our belongings across cobbled stones in a wheel barrow type thing. It's such a shame because if the barrier was to be lifted we could of unloaded in half the time and moved our car back to the main car park. . . once inside the owners had left us a bottle of prosecco and a birthday cake which was a lovely touch and greatly appreciated. . . all 8 of us had massages booked on the friday evening and saturday morning. All fantastic thank you so much to michelle and the other lady who covered for her on the saturday. . we felt the cottage was a little overpriced compared to similar weekend breaks we take as a family each year. The amenities inside the cottage were great (lots of kitchen equipment) but it seemed to be in need of improvement/ modernisation. . . hot tub was fab and the man came to service it for us on the sunday. . . thanks for a pleasant stay. Liz from Nottingham (31 October 2016)
We had a great time staying here and I would recommend this place to anyone looking a relaxing retreat in the peak district. Neil from Littleborough (26 October 2016)
We had a fabulous time. The grounds and surroundings are immaculate. The staff were extremely helpful before our visit. The house it's self is more than adequate. I know previous please have complained about there only being one shower but there is another bath upstairs, so we managed fine. We will definitely be staying again. Claire from Manchester (15 August 2016)
Excellent and beautiful venue. Could have done with some more kitchen implements or for it to be a bit more obvious where they were (we spent an age trying to find the can opener!). some of the crockery and pans were a bit dated and it would benefit from some more non stick frying pans and soap in every bathroom. Perhaps a list of where the items are might help. The hot tub was fantastic and we liked the privacy of the cottage on the site. Amelia from Welwyn Garden City (01 August 2016)
Had a lovely time staying here, beautiful location with a well kitted out property. Everything was kept at a high standard and having our own hot tub was great as the pool was often booked out. Would definitely recommend staying here. Confirmed Guest (25 July 2016)
The venue and location were beautiful but a bit more attention to the cleaning is needed (there was lots of cobwebs and dust). . the sofa is also a little tired and needs replacing (it is currently held up with breeze blocks!). . the cottage is suitable for 10 people, however, there are only 4 sun loungers and the hot tub only holds 4. Rachel from Ilkeston (13 June 2016)
Excellent location, very well equipped property, loved the hot tub! . the only problem that we encountered was that the bathroom door on the first floor did not shut properly. I'm sure that this will be fixed for future residents. Confirmed Guest from The Only Problem That We Encountered Was That The (23 May 2016)
We had a great time and was pleasantly surprised with the property after reading some of the reviews and after receiving the rather less than welcoming "welcome pack" email, (which had really taken the edge off the excitement for the trip) however the onsite staff were really nice, helpful and friendly. Loved the pool and the hot tub and made full use of both. . the only real negative that we found, (other than the wording of the aforementioned email) was that the bathrooms are not up to spec for the capacity of the property and definitely for the amount of money you pay, they need updating and another shower needs to go into the upstairs bathroom. Norma from Birmingham (09 May 2016)
Deferres was in a great location. Villages and shops were a 10min drive and walks were very local. My only little comment would be that there was only one shower for 10 adults. Although there was two baths it would have been a lot more efficient if both baths had showers installed. The hot tub was great with lovely views,a quiet surrounding at some points we thought we were completely on our own. We did have an issue with the boiler but this was resolved extremely quick. Confirmed Guest (02 May 2016)
Excellent stay here! me and 9 others stayed in the de ferrers, very spacious, grounds are beautiful and the views are amazing! I would definitely go again and recommend to anyone looking to go! Leah from Coventry (18 April 2016)
Quite good but there seems to be a little missing in terms of attention by the owners. Customers seem to be low on the list of priorities. William from Harrogate (11 April 2016)
Very comfortable rustic cottage with great facilities and lovely views. The big kitchen made catering for our group of 8 straightforward. The hot tub was super easy to use as it's always on and is serviced daily. All you have to do is take the cover off and turn the jets on. The main bedroom needs and extra window as was very dark but very comfortable in any case. We had a fab time and would definitely recommend it to friends. Ellie from London (08 April 2016)
Stunning cottage in a spectacular location. Everything you think a cottage in the country should be, the only negative is the very late arrive time (1600) and the extremely early departure time (1000). you can have these altered for a price, which isn't made clear before you book. Other than that, I believe we will be returning. I would highly recommend the de ferrers cottage at harthill hall to anyone. Sam from London (11 March 2016)
Perfect location to meet up and spend a fab birthday weekend with friends! who wouldn’t enjoy a hot tub in the snow!! it would have been great if there was a little more up-to-date information included at the accommodation regarding the surrounding area / things to do and directions from the property rather than the local towns - however this would not put me off returning and we already have our next visit planned! Kate from Yorkshire (18 January 2016)
It desparately needs a second shower in the upstairs bathroom for the capacity of 10. There should also be a gernerous supply of hot water. The oven was only working on one side and needed a thorough clean. The lighting in the downstairs bedroom was not working crrectly msking it particularly gloomy.apart from those setbacks the propery has the potential to be outstanding with its spectacular. views and private hot tub. With these minor amendments we would not hesitate to return to de ferrers. Elizabeth from Brentwood (28 December 2015)
Lovely cottage, excellent location and loved the hot tub !! Colin from Woburn Sands, Bucks (14 September 2015)
De ferrers is situated in a beautiful part of the country. we had a great few days, and the children loved the facilities. however, we felt that the property was not suitably equipped for the size of party it caterered for! we also thought that the ground floor bathroom smelt extremely damp and needed attention. Rachel from Kirkby Stephen (29 May 2015)
There needs to be more light especially in the 4 poster bedroom. There was no washing machine on site. David from Bridlington (10 April 2015)
When the hot water in the bedroom was used it made very loud banging noises, which woke everyone up at night. It was very loud. Kathy from Llanfynydd (30 March 2015)
Great weekend although small things could be improved. Window in bedroom which wouldn't close so it got very cold. New shower cubicle needed. Only one shower between 10 people which was not powerful enough at all, also when using it the bathroom floor got soaking wet so we suspected a leak. Small kitchen utelsils missing, no kitchen sissors, no oven glove. Advertised as having wifi but no wifi in the cottage at all and absolutely no reception for anyone to get hold if us. Only wifi is in the games room so abit worthless. Louise from Loughborough, Leicestershire (15 December 2014)
Brilliant weekend staying at de ferrers! house was rustic but comfortable and everyone left wanting a hot tub. Swimming pool was small but perfect for an improvised game of water polo and we were disappointing we did not take full advantage of the games room, only discovering it on our last night. Dan from Consett (01 December 2014)
This is the 4th time we have been at deferrers and have found the staff very helpfull and polite , view is stunning and nice and quiet , facilities are good . this will be our last visit as it is now a bit small as family have grown so will need a bigger cottage . we will miss harthill hall. Only fault I found was they need new frying pans Linda from Walsall (25 August 2014)
We had a wonderful time. Only problem was the damp in the bathrooms and downstairs bedroom. Confirmed Purchaser (22 August 2014)
Fabulous location and lovely resort. Steve and lolly could not have done enough for us and were very helpful. Swimming pool worked well with an hour slot each day. Stunnung walks from the cottage to suit any age. I would definatey recommend this cottage. My only thing to note was it was very dark inside and maybe could have done with some more lighting. On the whole - brilliant! Sally from Rugby (15 August 2014)
Great hot tub and location and pool. Needed a bit better stocking - take your own set of knives. Each from Newc (07 July 2014)
The location is beautiful and very private despite being part of a small complex. I could not fault the property it is exactly as advertised with lots of quirkiness. The beds were all very clean and comfortable and there were plenty of towels, bath robes and slippers provided. There were even some additional towels for when using the swimming pool /hot tub. the kitchen is well stocked with equipment. But my one very small complaint is that perhaps it could benefit from some large vegetable dishes as we were a party of 10 having and it was sometimes difficult to have containers for the food to go in the table. But of course that's a very personal choice and it did not detract from our excellent stay. The location if harthill hall is a fantastic base for local towns and facilities which were all easy to find. the extra facilities of the swimming pool and spa were just an added extra luxury that we all enjoyed and michelle the beautician was great and very knowledgable regarding treatments and products and very friendly too. Having a hot tub for our party was a must and it was very well used. Kim from Birmingham (19 May 2014)
Fabulous long weekend in the cottage. The only problem was with our boiler not working and the maintenance came and sorted it out for us. Lovely cottage with great views and we loved the hot tub. Will definitely stay again! Sharan from Nottingham (28 April 2014)
Hot tub brilliant, extremely well equipped -had a great time. Intending to return! Christine from St Ives, Cambs (03 February 2014)
I booked this cottage to celebrate my 50th birthday with 7 friends for a long weekend and chose it largely because of the location (we live only an hour away form the peak district). the location was great and the views amazing, especially from the private hot tub which we used many times. Facilities in the cottage are good but, although there are two bathrooms, only one has a shower ( a bit of a push when 8 women are sharing a house!). also, for single sex gatherings, 2 of you need to be prepared to share a double bed. The master bedroom (jungle theme) with 4 poster bed made us giggle with a mock tiger skin throw, mock animal skin rug and stuffed zebra toy on the bed. The bed was comfortable, however. the cottage was certainly not 'dirty' but there were cobwebs in places, the chandelier light fitting in the lounge could do with a clean and the décor is beginning to look a bit 'tired' - when you are paying just short of £800 for 3 nights I don't think this is really acceptable. The sofa which doubled as a sofa bed was comfortable but the other two sofas were well used and not at all comfortable to sit on. The kitchen facilities were good: plenty of crockery and every utensil needed to cook. However, the numbers/symbols on the cooker for the gas rings and oven have worn off so it was trial and error when cooking. I am aware that this review is critical but these little 'niggles' could so easily be sorted. Also, we really did appreciate the total sense of privacy while we were there, we only saw someone top up our hot tub water each day.i would visit the cottage again but only as part of a large group to get value for money. Maxine from Mason (04 November 2013)
The cottage just wasn't that clean. it was full of flies when we arrived. We had to rewash most if the crockery and cutlery and the chopping board should have been put in the bin! kids enjoyed the pool and hot tub Alison from Micklethwaite (02 September 2013)
Great facilities on site, beautiful location. Sue from Haslemere (30 August 2013)
Beautiful location. However the interior and decour of the cottage is very strange and dated, especially the downstairs leopard print bedroom and the coke bedroom. We were unfortunate to come across a lady with blonde hair who seemed to come from the main house - it possibly was the owner? she was extremely unpleasant and not welcoming. As this was towards the end of our stay it left us with a bad taste. Confirmed Purchaser (22 Jul 2013)
We loved it, had a great time. Yes there was one shower but there was another bath also. Perfectly ample for 8 of us so long as you're not rushing. Will be going back Tom from Oxford (22 April 2013)
Well equipped. Spacious. Relaxing. Stunning. Very helpful & accomodating Danny from Leamington Spa (01 October 2012)
Beautiful location and really nice cottage.owners were lovely to. Emma from Newcastle (03 September 2012)
Lovely location. Property and the whole estate is stunning. Property has lots of character and was reallly clean. Nicely decorated. Nice touches like white bedding, robes and a welcome basket of goodies. The bathrooms are the only thing I can fault. Angelique from Hindhead (24 August 2012)
Hot tub Jo from Derby (07 May 2012)
Full of character and in an ideallic setting. The hot tub was especially popular! Customer 47 (October 2010)
The cottage was great, well presented, well looked after, clean and a pleasure to stay in. Customer 48 (July 2010)
Great location, lovely rooms and brilliant facilities. Customer 49 (June 2010)
It was fantastic accommodation, welcoming, clean, tidy, spacious and well equipped. We loved soaking in the hot tub before and after our days out and using the pool too. Very relaxing. Our children thought the games room was good too. Great idea not having to bring swimming towels and the bath robes were a nice touch too. Customer 50 (May 2010)
